Lived up to every hype :) our bartenders Jess, Yann, Damian & David were amazing! Jess might just make you her special key lime cocktail which is to die for! Food, music, ambiance all of it an absolute 10/10! A true Montreal gem
First things first: finding the place is part of the fun. In proper speakeasy fashion, the entrance is tucked away in an alley, hidden just enough to make you feel like you've stumbled upon a secret society dedicated to excellent cocktails. Cute.
Once inside, the décor is delightfully over the top - dramatic, moody, & unapologetically stylish - exactly what you'd expect from the folks at @groupebarroco. It feels theatrical, like stepping onto the set of a very glamorous late-night scene.
The drink menu is well thought out, with a long list of signature cocktails that clearly lean into the flair & creativity of the bar team. The ones we tried were delicious & undeniably flashy with a bit of drama & make the table next to you curious about what you ordered.
In hindsight, we probably should have asked for a classic martini or something equally simple to truly test the bartenders' skills. But alas, we fell right into the trap they so expertly set: intriguing descriptions, clever ingredients, & a menu designed to lure you toward their signatures. & honestly… we're not really mad about it.
Now, about those'Top Bars in Canada' lists. One can't help but wonder how those actually work. Do they send someone to every bar in the country? Is there a secret panel of extremely well-hydrated judges traveling coast to coast? Or do certain places simply become very good at attracting the right kind of attention?
(We may know the answer to that… but that's a conversation for another time.)
For now, we'll say this: Atwater Cocktail Club delivers on atmosphere, creativity, & a sense of occasion. Whether you're chasing one of Canada's most talked-about cocktail bars or just looking for a fun night out behind a hidden door, it's worth stepping into the alley for.

Having worked in the industry for over 12 years, not only were the cocktails perfectly on par but the staff was friendly, welcoming & completely in their element. A special shout out to Andy who took care of us the whole evening. The bartenders looked like they were enjoying what they were doing & the surprise of having a bouncer be the host also added to the cool factor. Definitely would recommend 11/10
I went to Atwater Cocktail Club last night & honestly… never again. The moment I walked in, there was a strong, unpleasant smell at the bar - almost like aged cheese. Not exactly the vibe.
I always order a martini to test a bartender's skills, & this was hands down the worst martini I've ever had. Weak, no balance, no flavor, just… big. The other drinks weren't any better - nothing unique, nothing craft about them.
To make things worse, the host/bouncer kept passing gas right near the entrance. I wish I was joking. It was genuinely nauseating & made the whole experience even more uncomfortable.
For a place that's supposed to be a speakeasy with great cocktails, this was a huge disappointment. Definitely not worth the hype.

To be honest, I was hoping the second time would be the charm, but we left feeling a bit underwhelmed by the cocktails we had. It was similar to how I felt when I first visited this speakeasy back in December 2019.
The interior was really fancy - so if for nothing else, you'll get a great photo from visiting this place. The bartender was friendly, but we didn't like any of the cocktails he recommended. Maybe we weren't very good at describing our flavor preferences. The service overall was great, & we even got some free shots for willing to switch seats for other customers.
After visiting a few other speakeasies in Montreal & Quebec City, I can say that this was definitely our least favorite stop.
Came in for one drink, left with the best birthday memory ever. Staff were beyond sweet - got surprise shots, free drinks, & birthday love from the bartender. Absolutely unreal🥹🩷
This place is great from the moment you are greeted by the friendliest doorman into the coziest but very cool space til the farewell . Drinks are top notch .. the bartender made me a great recommendation because the drink I chose was not available & that drink was on point .
Merveilleux endroit & les cocktails sont une vrai merveille. Mais il le peuvent, cocktail signature à 33$. Heureusement qu'ils sont bons.
L'endroit est absolument génial & c'est dans ma top liste des speakeasy de Montréal mais vous devez avoir une place au comptoir ou alors les places juste en arrière du comptoir. Les places de l'entrée, sont corrects mais pas exceptionnelles surtout quand, comme moi, vous aimez voir les bartender préparer vos cocktails.
La cuisine est celle du Foigwa donc... délicieuse & aussi un peu chère à mon goût. La qualité est excellente.
Ça reste une de mes places favorites mais leur façon de gérer les groupes m'écoeure a chaque fois. Donc je n'y vais plus que seul ou alors juste à deux. Pas de réservation, ce qui ne constitue pas un problème mais à 5 ou 6 sur une petite table prévue pour 4, avec les plats & les verres... c'est trop inconfortable.
Des endroits comme le 4ieme mur, traitent les groupes beaucoup mieux.

We did a search for a craft cocktail bar in Montreal & ACC did not disappoint! The team is delightful, Damian the head bartender & Jack the barback were a fantastic duo on Saturday night - we got there early enough to be seated at the bar, & watched the team do its thing. The cocktails are stellar - clearly a lot of thought went in behind the concepts, & the execution left nothing to be desired. The pokemango was my absolute favorite (a milk punch with tropical fruit notes & indian spices), but the 40 Thieves presentation was lovely. La Chichera was both fruity & rich - such a delightful balance. I think my favorite thing about this bar is its lack of pretentiousness - neighborhood vibes & the best beverages. - also...Damian is obviously fantastic in his own right, but watch out for that barback Jack - he's the intern everyone wants to have. Focused, dedicated, driven.
Do not judge this placed based on the entrance. It's an absolutely gorgeous bar with a very good atmosphere. It's a little small but they don't let it get crowded in an uncomfortable way. The bouncer was so polite & professional. The bartenders are very nice & friendly too. It can be a little expensive but it's definitely worth a try!

Great choice of cocktails & delicious mocktails! If you're pregnant (or simply not drinking), you'll definitely find a drink that will satisfy your tastebuds! The bartenders can come up with amazing customized drinks! We highly recommend trying this place!!
We are beyond thrilled to have visited this cocktail bar. Jack, the bartender, is hands down one of the best human beings we've ever met. Along with making unforgettable cocktails. If you visit ask for Jack!
Amazing cocktail bar in Montreal, very responsive service, the cocktails were well described by the bartender & presentation was on point. Even though it was no reservation, we didn’t wait more than 15 minutes
Upon Visiting new places, I always want to get cocktails somewhere that the locals go. Loved the Vibe at Atwater. From the door man to the bartenders, I felt it right away. Kady at the bar made some tasting creations with Mezcal. He was on it. Attentive, chill & fun. Offered some local intel. Would love to come back & try more drinks. Overall, great spot whether you’re solo, with a group or on a date.
