The service is very slow. The food is not on par with other restaurants of that type. The wine list looks pretty good however half litre house wine is not available, you have to order by the glass which of course ups the price. The best part of the meal for me was the bread, so really I cannot give this place more than one star.
From the minute we walked in, the greeting and attention was amazing. The ambiance was warm and comfortable.The service was incredible, even the young man filling our water glasses. When I requested some hot water, he immediately went to get it and returned promptly. The food was beyond delicious, beautiful presentation, nice sized portions, and seasoned to perfection! We definitely will be back and we highly recommend this restaurant.
I had reserved for 25 people for my wife's 40th birthday, and as a first time client,: very impressed! The orders were taken ahead of time out of courtesy so as to not affect both us & other clients, the food (appetizers + main meal) was delivered in a well synchronized, timely fashion. They were even able to accommodate 4 later joiners with the main meal. The service was excellent, the food & drinks were good (people asked if I had organised the place because I knew it & was a successful try at a new place nearby). Good communication & organisation with the head waiter- was able to organise the details of the night as it went by. Waiters & waitresses very courteous, and will be back. I am shocked to see the rate for this restaurant as it doesn't justify the reality. Unfortunately people who like this restaurant didnt come to review it.
I am taking the time to do so. I used to go to this restaurant about 20 years ago when I was more frequently in the west island. Now that I am back in the west, I plan to go often.
We came to celebrate my husband and my birthday as well as mother's day as we were away for vacation. It was our first time at the restaurant with our 7 month old baby and the staff was great, we got a high chair right away. When I needed to heat up the milk bottle i asked for hot water and without hesitation i got it with a big metal glass which help heat it quicker. When we left the restaurant, the waiter opened door for my husband as we had gifts in his hands soon after that i walked toward the exit door carrying my child and right away opened the door for me. These a little things that makes SUCH A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!
As for the FOOD!!! WOW I had forgotten how good it was, each family member took a different plate and EVERYONE loved their dish!! That's rare, there's always someone not satisfied.
Give it a try and you'll be satisfied!

So very disappointed. We have all been coming here for many years and have noticed the significant decline in service and food for quite some time. Last visit was absolutely the worst. Our drink orders and meal orders were all mixed up, they ran out of bread, we waited just under three hours to get our meals, and once they arrived, they were either cold or wrong. To add to the negative experience, when we voiced our disappointment to the owner, she very rudely advised us that the restaurant would be fine without our business. She said this several times. No effort was made to improve the situation and we were never even offered coffee at the end of our meal. We were however offered our bills, again, some issued incorrectly. This was a negative experience from start to finish. When I spoke about this experience afterwards, several people agreed that this restUrant has really gone downhill, and most people agreed that they would rather not return. Very sad.
I've been going to this resto for about three years now. Me and my gf absolutely love it there. Nice ambiance & EXCELLENT food! Our favorite dishes are the penne carbonnara and their pizza romana. Delicious!
Disasterous! Very slow service. The wine list did not have vintatges listed and we finally got the fourth wine we chose. The Vongole had some kind of minced/frozen clams instead of whole, fresh ones. The rissoto was tasteless. When we complained to the "manafer" he said that the customer was too "difficult to please". When we stated that we would not leave a tip, he gave us a long sob story about he had to pay his staff.
This restaurant is Pretentious , overpriced and not a good visit
We were a party of ten, having travelled into town from Ottawa, Toronto, Kingston and Hudson. We had previously made a prior reservation for 12.30 pm We arrived at Piazza Romana on time to find that our table had not even been set up. Moreover, there was only one waiter on duty and, apparently one chef in the kitchen. No sign of a manager, who was only due to show up at 4 pm. Our order was eventually taken at 1.45 pm. a full hour and fifteen minutes after our arrival. We had repeatedly tried to get the attention of the sole waiter since one of our party had to leave to attend a funeral at 2.15. Eventually meals began to arrive at 2 pm.
We were unable to fault the quality of the food when it finally did arrive, but to have just two staff in attendance at lunchtime on a Friday speaks of sheer incompetence and, as far as we were concerned, was totally unacceptable.
Although we have dined at Piazza Romano in the past and been happy with the experience, you can be sure that we shall be reluctant to recommend your establishment in the future.
My daughter went to celebrate her 18th birthday at Piazza Romano in Pointe-Claire Village. The restaurant was 1/2 full but staff took 1 hour to serve them with sub-standard food. Not to mention the waiter abused the fact that these are young kids (18 years and younger)and they ordered a 21$ 1/2 bottle of wine (for legal drinkers) and he brought a $40 bottle of wine without consent because he thought that wasn't enough for 6 people and started arguing with them when the bill came. The manager was rude and obnoxious. I wouldn't go there again if you paid me. No wonder your restaurant is 1/2 full. I never would treat my clients like that. Shame on you for ruining someone's birthday!
Ate there this evening with my family. The food was good however the staff are by far the rudest I have ever encountered. The manager took our tables order and instead of punching in a my fathers salmon, he punched in veal. When the meals came and the mistake was realized it took 15 minutes for them to make the salmon. By the time his food came out everyone had finished eating and we still had received no apology. At the end we asked to speak to the manager however he was too busy to speak with us, which is strange when there are only 5 tables in the restaurant. We saw the manager smoking outside afterwards while he was supposed to be so busy. On top of it the waiter was extremely rude. We definitely won't be going back there.
Me and my boyfriend were very hungry and he has eaten here before and raves about the food. So almost at closing time on a Thursday we were greeted by the hostess and the waiters were very friendly and helpful. The food was extremely fresh and tasty. I highly recommend the Fried Calamari with their house dipping sauce. The romantic atmosphere was great for us,like you are in a hot spot down in old port. Great Italian restaurant in the west island :) GRAZIE!!!
Our family had dinner on June 21. The service was terrible (very slow), the food was average and our waiter was surly. We went to celebrate out kids' graduations. The waiter was quite rude when our son asked if they had Brio. We were informed that "we're not a pizzeria" I've certainly had Brio in other Italian restaurants of much better quality. He was equally rude when we asked for a daiquiri. It turns out that they are unable to mix these.
When I asked if he would recommend the seafood risotto, he replied "well, if you like rice, I suppose". None of the dishes were great. They were all mediocre. We each ordered a different dish and although the portions were generous, they were average-tasting.
Come on West Islanders, we deserve better than this!

We ate at Piazza Romana on a recent Saturday night. We should have known what we were in for as we were left waiting in the entrance area without being greeted or acknowledged by any of the staff that wandered by us on numerous occasions. We were finally seated and the service from that point on was average at best. The pasta dishes we ordered were run of the mill Italian (nothing to write home about) and certainly not worth going out of your way for. The veal and chicken dishes were OK but also not worth going back for. What ruined all the meals, however, was the "fake" parmesan cheese that our waiter offered us. It could easily have been that Kraft pre-packaged non-refrigerated stuff sold in grocery stores or at best it had to be the worst cheap grated cheese we have ever tasted. What sealed the "we will never come back here again" deal was watching the Manager or Maitre'd remove a paid but unfinished open bottle of wine from a neighbouring table and return it to the bar. The young lady behind the bar simply placed it back on the shelf with what we assume were other bottles being sold by the glass. I am not in the restaurant business but I am certain this is NOT supposed to happen. Makes me wonder what they do with for example the bread that does not get eaten?. Needless to say we will NOT be back, there are plenty of other Italian restaurants to choose from on the West Island.
I was not very pleased with my experience here. The food was similar to other Italian restaurants, but the service we got was terrible! While ordering I asked if it was possible to change my pasta that comes as a side dish to my veal from a meat sauce to an alfredo sauce (on the menu for a full dish the difference is $1) and my waiter replied "Of course that's no problem at all"! Once we were done eating our appetizer, (escargots gratine- pretty good, but they dont tell u they charge $3 extra for gratine, which i find is more than most places)I looked at the time and it was 7:25...We waited and waited, we saw people who came in after us get their food, but its when I saw those people leaving I decided to look at the time again and it was 8:05! So I figured they now forgot about us, so I tried getting the attention of our waiter to see what was going on. Another waiter came to see us instead and went to the kitchen to see what was going on. About 10 mins later our food finally arrived.
Once getting the bill I was surprised to see my veal cost $28 when on the menu I remembered seeing $24. I asked the waiter and he agreed it was a mistake. The manager came by our table and told me it was because it was $4 to switch the pasta, and $3 to add cheese to the escargots, and they just add it to the price of the dish instead of making it a separate item (which I find makes it quite sneaky since many people do not look in detail at their bills) I still find it quite odd that they would charge $4 for the change of sauce when the difference on the menu was only $1, and its not like I was taking some sort of seafood pasta...just a cream sauce instead of a meat/tomato sauce.If I was warned beforehand that it was $4 for any sauce, then I would have either stuck with what comes with the meal, or would have spent the $4 to get a better more tasty one I would have enjoyed more!!
The manager had horrible human relations skills. Everytime I tried to speak, he would interrupt me. I had to actually ask him if he could let his customer speak for a second! He said it would be ridiculous of them to warm customers about hidden prices because it would offend them since it would apparently hint that they are cheap and cant afford it! I've personally never heard anyone complain about being warned about extra fees...
So if you go, check your bills carefully and ask if anything costs more!
Off my list of West Island restaurant. Years ago(before the renovation)The food and service were outstanding. The veal was the best in the city. The service was personal and attentive.... but no longer
After a couple a negative visits my family and my self will not be returning. The food has gone down hill and the service is indifferent, slow and unprofessional.
Some example are, not all of us receiving the food at the same time. One member of our group waited over 20 minutes for their meal because it was forgotten from our order. Cold over done pasta was also served. Nothing was done for service recovery. I could go on but there is no point to do so.
Sorry to share this type of experience because we have of fond memories as a family from pass visits where we enjoyed the food and conversations etc.
Excellent restaurant. Très bien décoré. C'est un restaurant italien, mais la sélection de mets n'était pas la meilleure. Les pâtes sont généreuses et très bien cuites, mais le service était moyen, puisque notre serveur parlait très peu français.
Nous avons adoré ce restaurant. Il est situé au bord du lac et la vue est magnifique. Nous y sommes allés en hiver et j'imagine que la vue en été doit être encore plus belle.
Le service était excellent. Nous nous sommes faits servir par plusieurs serveurs, mais ils étaient tous synchronisés et savaient ce qu'ils faisaient. Ils sont passés plusieurs fois pour nous demander si tout allait bien et si nous avions besoin d'autre chose. Donc, nous nous sommes fait très bien servir. Nous ne pensions pas que le service soit si rapide puisque nous nous sommes présentés un samedi soir, mais malgré le fait que le restaurant était plein les serveurs prenaient soin de nous et nous n'avons passé que une heure dans le restaurant (nous voulions quelque chose de romantique et rapide.)
L'ambiance est extraordinaire: musique douce, chandelles et décoration avec des couleurs chaudes. C'est un endroit calme où nous pouvions parler sans avoir à crier. Les chaises sont confortables et les tables sont bien présentées.
La nourriture y est bonne. Comme entrée, nous avons partagé un plat de calmars frits qui était excellen. Ensuite, j'ai pris une pizza et mon conjoint de la lasagne. La lasagne était superbe- pas trop acide, bonne quantité et avec beaucoup de viande et la pizza était bonne (un peu ordinaire, par contre.) Je recommande surtout les pâtes si vous aimez cela. Nous n'avons pas pris de vin, mais la carte de vins est remplie.
Bref, si vous avez la chance d'y aller n'hésitez pas! Il demeurera dans ma liste de restaurants 'à retourner.'
Last Saturday, my husband and I took my mother-in-law to Piazza Romana to celebrate her 76th birthday.
We were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this restaurant located on the waterfront in Pointe Claire. We found the restaurant to have a very warm ambiance which was heightened by the tastefully decorated cream walls, a glowing fireplace and mantle in the centre room, large windows overlooking the Pointe Claire village and shops, comfortable seating and soft music playing in the background.
Being of Italian descent and having a very refined palette for all good things, we were very impressed by the quality of the Italian main fare that came to our table. I had the lasagne and a salad mista which was very well-seasoned with oil and balsamic vinegar. My husband had a plate of rigatoni with bolognes sauce and my mother-in law had a smoked salmon salad as a starter and a veal with mushroom sauce with a side order of penne and tomato sauce. All the servings were substantial. The wine and the espresso/cappuccino were very good. The service provided by the attentive staff was impeccable.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wishes to enjoy a very relaxing lunch or dinner surrounded by beautiful scenery both inside and outside the restaurant.
Just went there for lunch today with my daughter. We decided to sit on the terrace as it is a beautiful day - the waiter was seemed a little miffed when I asked him if we could have the umbrella for shade - whatever. I ordered the lemon sole, which came with a choice of either pasta or veg. I asked if I could switch it up for a side of salad instead but that was a no go so I picked veg. My daughter ordered the mushroom risotto. And to start we both had a "chef salad". The salad consisted of romaine (tough leaves and the bottom part of the stem) and winter tomatoes and what tasted suspiciously like Kraft Italian dressing. The sole was boring and tasteless I realize that sole isnt the most exciting fish but I could have been eating a piece of plain tofu. I like my veggies crisp but these were raw - and the slice of carrot that was in there, must have come from some kind of franken carrot it was so huge. It also came with what can only be described as a potato ball (a fried ball of mash) again bland. My daughter ordered the mushroom risotto - honestly not up to scratch - it was dry and risotto should be creamy. I was absolutely famished so I ate my food - but I wont go back. I haven't been there in a while I remembered it as a really quaint place with pretty good food. With so many really good (and reasonably priced) Italian restos on the West Island this place doesn't quite cut it. Lunch including a glass of white wine and an iced tea but not including tip was $50.00
Good food in general. Nothing very inventive. Good restaurant to go to occasionally, nothing exceptional. Classic.
