What a memorable & truly enjoyable meal - both the food & the service (special thanks Etienne!) made this our #1 dining experience.
With our dietary restrictions, Etienne made the additional effort to curate the meal - striking a perfect balance between flavors & portions.
The tomato pie was truly special, only to be topped by the blueberry ice cream sandwich.
Thank you!View more
We had dinner towards evening as the sun was going down & the room was flooded with natural light. I really loved the atmosphere here. The service was absolutely wonderful. Big thanks to the team. I wasn't amazed by the food. I wanted to love everything. Most of what we ordered was just ok. The wine was out of this world. The wine list is amazing. Kudos to whomever is running the wine program. Yes. I would come back to try more wine.
The rose & the orange glasses of wine we started with were out of this world. I ordered a bottle of Giosue 2023 from Niagra that was a great pleasure to have.
As far as what we had to eat:
BBQ sweetbreads w/morels - The sweetbreads were dried out from the BBQ cooking method. The morels tasted like they were reconstituted from dry vs fresh. It could have been the BBQ cook that dried them out as well.
The halibut - The fish was fresh. The sauce was good. Overall, the dish was ok.
The clams & spaghetti - Outstanding. Made with beautifully crafted fresh pasta. The pasta absorbed the flavor of the sauce. It was a lovely dish.
The chicken - Was just ok. Didn't understand the need for fish eggs. I love fish eggs. The combo did not work for me.
The scallop sandwich - Lacked flavor.
The razor clams - Lacked flavor. Beautiful presentation. This dish & most others needed salt.
Tomato & lobster - Flat in flavor. The freshness of the tomato didn't really come through. The foam overwhelmed everything.View more
Very pleasant dining experience, even got to see another familiar face from our dining travels! The scallop sandwich was so intriguing, you can feel the fun the chef was having with it. Loved the sourdough marinated chicken served with the fish roe on top. Everything worked so well together! Only thing would have liked differently would have been dressing the salad a quarter or so less to enjoy the greens more. The bits of fried chicken with the radish & pate was so yummy! Very satisfied with the meal & the cute little rabbit!View more
I've been wanting to try this restaurant for so long, even more since they were ranked #1 out of 100 restaurants in Canada! Reservations are difficult to get, one has to be ready when the times are released, exactly 30 days before, at 5pm. Needless to say that my expectations were high.
In the end, I was disappointed. The food itself was just good, nothing exceptional. We even tried the popular options such as the scallop sandwich ('croque-pétoncle'), & the buckwheat cake, without being impressed. The pork had a lot of fat, & was served with even more cubed fat. The sweetbread ('ris de veau') which is already rich, was paired with even more richness from the lettuce vinaigrette. It could have benefited from some contrasting flavors & textures instead. The cocktail'Genziana' was weirdly bitter & herby. The Savouré blackcurrant juice was good, but we had to ask for non-alcoholic options as it was not listed on the menu?
The daily printed menu is only in French, which the servers then recite in English. The table next to us had difficulty understanding, & they ordered'veal', not expecting sweetbreads ('ris de veau'). The tables around us were all English speaking tourists. Wouldn't it just be easier to print the menu in English too?
Service was very attentive, to the point of being overbearing. Plates were whisked away as soon as they were finished, servers came to wipe the table between each dish, we were asked multiple times about the food, etc. They asked if it was for a special event, to which we said job promotion. They then proceeded to bring the dessert with a lit candle & wished us happy birthday…
In the end, our main deception was with the food itself, which failed to impress. The ingredients pairing in each dish was lacking. In comparison, we much preferred other restaurants like Monarque or Europea.View more
We loved everything!! No misses. Menu items cycle in & out but I can totally understand why the scallop sandwich & buckwheat cake have held their spot for this long. My one regret was not specifying that my husband has back problems so we would have preferred regular seating rather than the bar but he endured because we had such a good time. We'll be back!View more
A wonderful experience in a quaint restaurant. The food was simply delicious (I'm still dreaming about their scallops sandwich, it was like eating a cloud) & they helped me paired my many plates with fun & unexpected wines.
Service was impeccable & I cannot wait to go back.View more
Amazing dining experience! Wiped down every plate! Fiona is incredibly knowledgeable about the wine & the food. The entire staff was super thoughtful & hospitable! They explain everything! Absolute FAVORITE were these scallop mousse sandwich - DO NOT MISS THIS!!!View more
Vin Mon Lapin, ranked #1 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants list, is a must-visit spot in Montreal's Little Italy. From start to finish, it was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The vibrant atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between youthful energy & refined sophistication. Though the space is cozy, it adds to the charm, & reservations are a must.
We sat at the bar with a clear view of the kitchen, feeling like we were at an intimate dinner party. The service was exceptional, with our friendly server offering wine samples & never rushing us. We opted for the chef's curated tasting menu, paired flawlessly with wines. Every course amazed me, especially the Le Croque-Pétoncle-a scallop sandwich on buttery, garlicky toast-easily the best dish I've ever had. The veal tartare with sun-gold tomatoes, rich Béarnaise-like sauce, & perfectly seared duck breast with foie gras sauce were standout dishes.
The wine pairings elevated the meal, & though I lost track of courses, I couldn't stop savoring each bite. A hidden gem, Mon Lapin offers some of the finest French/Italian-inspired food in Montreal. Don't miss it-put it on your restaurant list to visit, & you won't be disappointed.View more
Absolute gem in the heart of litte italy. The scallop sandwich is a MUST TRY. Also the buckwheat cake cannot be missed for dessert.View more
Top 5 meal. Service was top notch - all the staff clearly enjoy what they do, were friendly & professional. Didn't have to top my own wine or water up once. Pacing was nice - never once felt rushed. Food was excellent. We had the urchin, scallop sandwich (simple & easily one of the best things I've ever eaten), clams, & the buckwheat cake for dessert. Could not have asked for a better experience.View more
The quality of the food is on point & the concepts behind them are very well thought out. My top 3 favourite we ordered were the scallop sandwich, eggplant dish & profiterole. Our server recommended most of the dishes based on the classics they bring back versions of since the menu changes daily. Our waitress was also super knowledgeable about the menu & new best pairings & serving sizes. Would recommend for people who are foodies. I would definitely go back & have other dishes!View more
Started off by booking a table for Saturday August 10th at 9pm. This alone was a mess because applications only open up at 9am 1 month in advance. That I can accept as it was for Canada's #1 restaurant. We booked the only available spot which was for 9pm. We were very excited to try the food & experience the restaurant. We got there a few minutes before 9. Our table was not ready. This was fine since the place looked busy. We can tolerate a busy place if the food is good. After waiting for about 10 minutes we were then asked to have a seat at the outside patio. Which honestly was a fine place. Comfy seats with the heaters on. A waitress gave us our menus & asked us to place drink orders. We placed our orders, but we also wanted to sit inside the restaurant as we had booked well in advance & thought that was the least we could ask for. This in hindsight was not the right decision. We should have just stayed outside. Inside was as expected for a busy restaurant, hectic but fun. This is where our real problems occurred. We were led inside & a new waitress came to assist us. Who again asked for our drink choices even after we had ordered outside. We were then seated near the bar on uncomfortable stools without a backrest. I'm 26 & my significant other is 25 (she just had her birthday & that's what brought us to the restaurant), so we can take a little pain, but these chairs were incredibly uncomfortable. Our drinks came, & they tasted good. However our waitress was nowhere to be seen. We had perused the menu & we were ready to order, but noone in sight to take our order. Finally our third waitress showed up & asked for our order. We placed our appetizer orders & off our waitress went. Our first order came quickly as it was the scallop sandwich. Very buttery, but overall, pretty tasty & definitely unique. Then we waited for about 15-20 mins to place our entree order. However by this time it was much later at night & some of the items we were excited to try were already gone. This forced us to reorder some items that we didn't particularly want but ordered to try. Let me say for a fact that the food we ordered was very tasty. That we had no problem with. The issue we had was that people who walked in off the street with no reservations were treated better & had better service than we did. Overall food was good service was a major let down. I'd suggest leaving this restaurant off your list of things to do in Montreal. NOT WORTH.View more
Easily understand why this can make to No.1 restaurant in Canada. Enjoy everything on my meal, the peach sorbet is out of this world. However, the bread seem to be dry (maybe because it was end of day - we got reso at 9:45pm) The scallop sandwich was supposed to be very good based on many people recommended, however I feel it mushy & oily (the croque / sandwich outside later). 1st 2nd bite is good but eventually it become uneatable, I took the croque out & it only the scallop. Staff is friendly, & this place is not expensive at all compared to the top ranking. I spent around $90 each pre-tax & tip.View more
Best restaurant in Canada two years consecutively for a reason. Absolutely mind blowing delicious meals. The scallops sandwich is ridiculously goodView more
Absolutely fabulous dinner! I was lucky enough to dine here this past week & I couldn't of enjoyed it more. I sat at the bar & Dimitri was so great-perfect wine choices, next time I'll try one of his amazing cocktails. The food was soo good & beautiful everything we had was great. Highlights for me were the tomato cherry salad the scallop sandwich is a must do!! Thank you ❤️View more
Chosen as Canada's best restaurant, Mon Lapin was a huge let down. One caveat, the temperature in Montreal was hot & humid, 93 degrees, & Mon Lapin was full. Our decision to sit at the bar facing the kitchen was stupide, because it was hot. Everyone at the restaurant was lovely, but we were miserable nonetheless. Our hope relied on the food, but the dishes did nothing to lift us out of the inferno. Sticking to a seafood theme, we chose to start with the scallop sandwich & the raw scallops from the Iles de Madeleine. Mon Lapin holds onto a small plates concept. Everything is to share. Both scallop dishes were refreshing but nothing more. For entrees, we chose poached Halibut & marinated white asparagus with lobster. The Halibut was the star of the evening, but that star isn't getting a review in Variety. In fact, our comped tiny Cannolis tasted best of all. While service at Mon Lapin was well-meaning, they were all running around frenetically. It was akin to an ADHD convention. Mon Lapin is a casual joint, & the staff goes out of their way to let you know they're down to earth, but it seemed like they were trying to go Around that World in Eighty Days. Mon Lapin has an extensive & eclectic wine list & would fair better as a wine bar that serves good food. No, Mon Lapin is not Canada's number one restaurant. Edulis in Toronto & St. Lawrence in Vancouver were infinitely better. Pricing is fair at Mon Lapin, a little over $200 Canadian for four dishes, one glass of wine & one cocktail.View more
Absolutely amazing, totally deserving of the title of Canada's best restaurant. The stars of the night were the scallop sandwich, agnolotti, black sausage in brioche & the buckwheat cake. The service was also exceptional. Would definitely recommend & come back again.View more
Vin Mon Lapin was probably the best culinary experience I've ever had. My boyfriend & I cannot stop talking about it. Everything about this place was top notch from the food to the service to the ambience. We let the service determine what we eat & drank rather than ordering directly from the menu & I wouldn't recommend dining there any other way. The coursing was perfectly paced with maybe about 5-7 minutes in between when we finished one dish & then received the next. Our favorite thing was the scallop sandwich & the tartare de beouf, for me, was a close second. If you can snag a reservation at this spot, definitely do it!View more
Our dinner date was sublime. The staff was absolutely friendly in both English & French, & adapted to our mood while being very courteous. The food was excellent. As the menu changes quite often, the best I can suggest is their dessert options which often are consistent & the scallops sandwich for sure. The staff was very well prepared to explain every dish that we were interested in with fine detail without confusing us & the wine selection was excellent too. Whilst this restaurant is definitely a special occasion spot, I do recommend trying it out once as it's a must try in Montreal.View more
After making a reservation several months ago, the big day finally arrived! My husband & I left the restaurant extremely happy & delightfully full. The concept of ordering multiple dishes to share worked wonderfully for us. For starters, we tried the restaurant's signature sandwich & some bread, both of which were fantastic. Our main courses included an outstanding carbonara pasta & fish, not particularly extraordinary for our taste, but still quite good. For dessert, we indulged in a maple tartlette, a definite highlight & perhaps the best dessert I've ever tasted, along with the recommended signature dessert from our waitress. We paired our meal with white & orange wine, an excellent choice suggested by our waitress. I loved the service; the staff was consistently attentive, swiftly clearing tables & plates. Everyone was friendly, & they provided service in both English & French. The bathroom is small, but it's immaculately clean. An unforgettable dinner experience!View more
There is alot of hype for this place so I came with high expectations. Unfortunately, everything felt very average. The pork portion was very small & fatty. The steak aubergine was too salty. Unni was not memorable. The scallop sandwich tasted like a cheese sandwich.
The only dish that was interesting & inventive was the leek. But that was essentially chips dipped in a smokey mayo with a leak on top.
Service was good. I would not come here again.View more
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had - from the service to the food.
First off, the service was incredible. I’ve been to a few Michelin star restaurants, but the service here may eclipse even those. The servers are extremely attentive to you, & take the time to craft a menu for the night based on the preferences you’ve given them in your intro discussion (if you want to choose your own menu that’s an option too). They’ll pair every course with a wine & give a great overview on what you’re eating.
Now onto the food. Everything was absolutely incredible. The scallop sandwich was actually probably my least favorite thing, despite it still being so rich & delicious. The pasta was fantastic, the fish was cooked perfectly, & the sour dough chicken is a knockout.
Incredible experience & a must try if you’re lucky enough to get a reservation.View more
Like everyone else I wanted to try the #1 restaurant in Canada. Not sure if having guaranteed customers has now changed the quality of food but I would say it was pretty good if not the best meal I've ever had. Everything is executed well & I imagine this is fairly consistent given the place runs like a well oiled machine, from the time you step foot in the place to the time you leave. I must have had 5-6 servers at my table as they bring out new plates for every course & clean the table. Service is their claim to fame.
The dishes I got were: the eggplant & cantelope which was a cold appetizer. Very delicate flavour & eggplant is cooked to perfection which I always appreciate. There is a sauce which accompanies the dish which definitely adds value. I also had the scallop & cheese grilled sandwich which was super decadent (meaning fried in about a pound of butter). I didn't taste the scallop at all but that might have been my allergies (slightly stuffed nose) but the person I was with did. But the accompanying dip (avocado I believe with teeny tiny white petal edible flowers) was to die for! Was perfect match for the sandwich & really made the dish pop.
For the main we had the Artic char which was seared lightly so mostly raw in middle & the pork. I'd say the pork dish with sausage was the major disappointment. Two 2-3 inch long, thin slices of pork & one 4 inch sausage. Because most people share you get 4-5 bites. Just so you know the sausage was amazing & pork just average (warning pork is pink but tastes cooked). Again the sauces with each dish were spot on & added another level of refinement. I think the sauces are what sets this place apart from the many high end places out there.
Mon Lapin may not be the best food wise but they certainly know what they are doing. Too bad the portions could not be bigger. For example, at Nora Grey you'd get a huge pork chop for the same price but they don't come close to the flavour at Mon Lapin. Nowadays this is the dilemma...there is always a trade off.
The buckwheat cake was very nice. Tiny pieces of what tasted like brittle in the mascarpone light light cream was sweet but good. The wafers on the sides of the cake were soggy & fell apart when you picked it up...not great.
As I wrote in my review of Beba (where service & respect was lacking), Mon Lapin sets a very high standard in service & you wish all restaurants could pay this much attention to detail & more importantly provide the care & respect to their clientele as they do. So if you are hankering for some TLC while dining (although be warned it is extremely noisy when full) & don't want to be stuffed when you leave this is the place for you.View more
