The restaurant has potential, but I wouldn't recommend it. Small details matter; the music was far too loud, especially considering the restaurant was nearly empty. The cocktails were standard, & they managed to mess up the classic margarita. The decor feels outdated & cheap. While the downstairs area was decent, it lacked a distinct vibe typical of a basement.
As for the food, it was average overall, though the jerk was quite good.View more

went out for valentine's day & had the most amazing experience. the hostess greeted us with so much kindness & consideration. she made sure to give us an amazing table & paid attention to the little details. the service from the server was also amazing & served with a smile! the food was fantastic. i had the rasta pasta with jerk chicken & it's definitely a must!! the live music was also amazing & the $35 pitcher of rhum punch was so worth it! definitely coming back soon!View more

EXCELLENT! Friday night, the music was a vibe, the spicy pineapple margarita was delicious. We ordered the jerk calamari... omg... the best calamari we ever had... with pikliz!!!! & the side jerk sauce with a little sweetness!!!!! YYUUUMMMMYYYYY!!!! Honestly that sauce should be bottled & sold everywhere because I would use it with everything. We also ordred the jerk poutine & the oxtail mac & cheese. It was just so tasty & perfect. I love how they mix all the Carribean superstar foods together in flavorbomb balanced heavenly bites. The staff was kind, knowledgable, from the hostess to the busboy. The waitress was attentive. It looked like they all worked well as a team (even with a short staff due to some being under the weather that day & not able to show up to work). I've been there before & tried different apps & entres: mushrooms, plaintain, chicken wings, tacos.... everything was tasty. From the very start, Chef Jae-Anthony & his staff helped me organize my birthday. He found me solutions so my whole group & I could enjoy amazing vibe & amazing food in a private room when he saw we were a lot, giving us even access to our own music. Just to be clear, food really was amazing. DJ upstairs was also giving us the music we went to Tropikal for. Chef Jae-Anthony even took the time to come out of the kitchen to make sure it was all going well. I knew Tropikal for a few years now & went a couple of times, but this experience gives me a lot of more ideas to organize amazing events with my people. I will be coming back for sur.View more

My recent visit to Tropikal was marred by a lack of preparation & subpar service. Attending an event night for sip & paint, we encountered numerous issues from the start. Mind you I often go there & it use to get realy great service from Ben & Kenny. The quality of aervice really dropped & it shows. Despite arriving promptly at 9 pm, the music was excessively loud, making conversation impossible. Requests to lower the volume were unfulfilled, & the bartender's inability to make classic cocktails, like a martini, was disappointing. Food orders were incomplete, with missing items like rice, & cocktails arrived over an hour late. Attempts to get assistance from our waitress or settle the bill were futile. Yes, I still paid full price for half the plate ordered. It was evident that the entire floor staff were newbies, lacking the experience to handle a busy event night. The blame placed on me for expressing my frustration was unwarranted. Apparently I "discouraged" the new hirees. Tropikal's failure to prepare for the challenges of a busy night left us dissatisfied. I advise others to temper their expectations when dining here, as the lack of readiness & customer-centric approach may lead to disappointment.View more

We loved it. We just discovered this place & what a find! A classy restaurant with Caribbean vibes. The menu is next level. Not the usual mundane & traditional offerings. Everything has a delightful & delicious twist. My boyfriend said that it was the best prepared red snapper he ever had. I had jerk chicken wings & mango, tamarind chicken wings. They were a tad salty but delicious. The rice was amazing! The couch style seats were a bit too deep for me & my boyfriend thought that the rails on the stairs could have been placed from the first stair instead of the third. Came here for dinner, the music, atmosphere & food are absolutely immaculate. Highly recommend coming here with a group of friends! The cocktails are pricey (mostly around 20$) but I enjoyed mine (blacker the berry). We got the coconut shrimp as an appetizer & the seasonal Trinidadian Roti Platter to share & it was more than enough! So tasty & delicious, but just a warning for some, it is spicy like advertised!View more
