I am so impressed about the food & service! Our experience was underwhelming. The food was fine, but nothing exceptional. In my opinion there are other better Caribbean restaurants in Montreal. The service was fine. The restaurant really needs a cleaning reset. Half of the globes on the light fixtures are missing so it just looks cheep. Also the light fixtures that are there are SO DUSTY, they really need to be clean, it's unappealing at a restaurant. The mirrors were also really streaky & dirty. The overall restaurant didn't give me that clean vibes. We reserved, & were sat at the bar as there were no tables available. Two other groups of people who arrived after us were also going to be sat at the bar & you could tell they weren't happy. If the dinning room is limited I recommend on the reservation site you but both options dinning room & bar so at least when we arrive we aren't surprised.View more

Merci d'avoir SCRAPPER mon réveillon du jour de l'an. Nous avons acheté nos billets 1 mois à l'avance, rendu sur place a 21hr on nous a placé au bar alors qui il y avait de la place, aucun service 1hr30 d'attente pour avoir notre entrée, il fesait froid du au courant d'air, notre service se terminait à 23h, nous avons reçu nos plats principaux à 23h15, les gens arrivaient pour le party, il n'y avait pas de place, donc ils les ont envoyé au sous-sol sans musique, sans lumière, il restait 2 minutes avant le décompte de la nouvelle année, tout le monde est revenu dans la salle a manger, les serveurs ont enlevé nos chaises, nous étions obligés de terminé de manger debout, car nous avons reçu nos dessert a minuit, mélangé a des gens qui voulait que s'amuser, il y a un service que nous avons jamais reçu. Les gens dansait avec leur manteaux, un seul barman & en plus les speakers ont lâché, ça sonnait cacannne, un vrai désastre, aucune gestion. Nous avons quitter, seul point positif, la nourriture est vraiment bonne. Quel manque d'organisation, ils ont scrapper le réveillon de plusieurs. Nous avons réservé pour célébrer l'enterrement de vie de jeune fille de notre amie. Un événement très significatif pour nous puisque c'est la première de notre groupe qui se marie. Notre réservation était pour 22h car nous voulions l'expérience souper & club. Nous avons choisi cet endroit pour dépenser notre argent dans notre communauté. Nous avons très bien mangé, respect aux cuisinier. La serveuse aussi était bien. Ce qui a mis une ombre sur notre soirée c'est l'attitude de la manager & du barman/serveur « en chef ». D'abord, le site du Tropikàl indique que la réservation est retenue pour 15 mins. Bien qu'on soit un bon groupe de filles nous avons réussi à être présentes pour 22h12. À peine la manager nous voit passer la porte qu'elle vient dire à la hôtesse que notre groupe va devoir se dépêcher de commander avant 22h30. Bien que leur site internet indique que la cuisine ferme à 23h. Donc la manager était bien consciente de notre présence dans son établissement mais n'a même pas pris la peine de féliciter mon amie clairement identifiée future mariée. Okay nous avons 12 mins de retard mais nous célébrons quand même un événement dans ton restaurant & on paie pour cela c'est la moindre des choses. Sans compter le regard désobligeant du barman/serveur chef qui a servi au bar plusieurs personnes bien que nous avions déjà demandé avant ces gens nos shooter & il m'ignorait quand j'essayais de lui rappeler que j'étais là avant eux. C'est dommage car c'est un bel endroit, de la bonne nourriture & musique mais rien ne vaut une belle expérience client peu importe si on dépense pour 5 bouteilles ou juste 5 shooters.

I went there with my husband last night & we had a fantastic experience. We sat at the bar & we tried different cocktails. You can literally pick any cocktail from the menu & you will be wonderfully surprised with the unique tastes. Our favorites were Éwé, Fré & the rum punch.
The food is out of this world. We tried the coconut shrimps, which was a bit spicy, but nonetheless delicious. Then We tried the fish with the rice & we ended with the cheese dip. The bar stuff were so attentive & truly made our experience unforgettable. All in all it was wonderful. We will definitely go back. Recommend 10/10

Nous avons appréciés notre expérience globale au Tropikal mais restons déçus sur certains points :
- Nous avons été mis au bar alors que le restaurant était vide. Je précise aussi qu'au moins 7 ou 8 tables sont restées vides tout le long de notre présence & que nous aurions donc largement pu bénéficier d'une table. Le bar, lui, était pleins, les dernières places qu'il restés étaient en face du barman (très sympathique au passage) mais emplacement très bruyant & peu intimiste pour une soirée en amoureux, réservée en ligne depuis plus d'une semaine. C'est apparemment la règle pour les réservations de 2... Mais pourquoi ne pas le notifier lors de la réservation ? 2 couples ont été ensuite placés à des tables après notre arrivée... Un peu frustrant je dois dire.
- A peine assis, la serveuse nous dit que nous avons 2h devant nous... Ok mais peu apprécié de l'entendre.
- Le serveur qui nous a servi à manger n'avez pas l'air très heureux d'être ici..

Points positifs :
Le lieux, le barman (très bon cocktails), la bouffe mérite un 4*.

J'espère que cet avis aidera à L'amélioration du service.

Food was decent. I find it was overall overpriced.
Staff was cordial but couldn't help but find we were being rushed to free the table we dined in at.
As the bar/party time was in about 1 hour.
We could've just kept enjoying a few more drinks sitting down.
But overall we enjoyed a nice evening out with some friends.

J'ai reservé pour 9:30. Sur le site c'est bien indiqué que si j'arrivais en retard je perdais ma place. Pourtant je suis arrivée à 21:17, cela a pris 1hr afin que j'ai une table. Ensuite à ma table cela a pris 30 minutes afin qu'une serveur vienne me voir, & là encore j'ai du demander si quelqu'un allais venir. La serveuse est arrivée pour me demander simplement :"vous voulez manger quoi"? Vraiment experience desagréable. Personne ne s'est excusé. Surtout quand je confirme que je desire une table & que j'ai reserve, je me fais dire bon il n'y a pas de table de disponible😕, c'est soit le bar car une place venait de se liberer ou que j'attends. Heureusement 10min plus tard une table s'est liberee. Je suis vegetalienne, je commande le bol vegan, très très deçu de mon plat. Honnêtement je suis venue pour supporter la communauté, mais là ce fut décevant. L'attente suite à une reservation, le service à la clientele, franchement c'est malheureux.

This was a first for me! Worst experience I've ever experienced.
Me & a group of friends drove 2 hours to try this restaurant. We reserved a good 10 days in advanced to avoid any complications.
When we arrived at the restaurant, gave my name - advised I reserved, the host told us we would need to wait another 15mins because a group of 26 people just sat down, i said "Okay no problem" we were waiting outside taking advantage of the great weather, taking pictures etc, I came back after 30mins since no one was giving us any updates, this time there was a different host in the front & she said " It will take another 30mins" I told her I had booked my reservation 10 days ago & we are not local, I also mentioned that the first host said it would take 15mins & now you are telling me another 30mins which means I was now waiting for 1hr, she then added that the kitchen closes at 10:00pm. At this point my friends & I was getting frustrated because the customer service was very bad. One of the host then said " you guys can sit outside" not sure why they didn't mention to us from the beginning. We finally decided to just sit outdoors which we didn't really planned to, since we heard the inside was a better experience.
We waited a while before we even got some glass of water brought to our table, when someone did, they didn't even say hi or anything, plus the water was warm - no ICE! One of the host saw our mood & felt bad & offered us some shots to beginning (we appreciated that very much) She then proceeded to taking our orders after we asked who will be serving us since no one other than the waitress who brought the water. We were READY to place our orders since we were told kitchen was closing at 10:00pm. We ended up ordering both appetizers, main dish & drinks! Well, well! our appetizers came before our drinks!!!!!! don't get me wrong their food is a solid 10/10, we were satisfied with the food but when it comes to their customer service it was crap! After we ate we decided to stay for the club part since the waitress told us "how it works" but then was miscommunicate. Let me explain " she told us if we ate here then we can go inside & have a table, she did mention if we wanted to take a bottle they were between $150-$200" When we got inside it was A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY". We then proceeded to taking more shots, we waited 30 mins for 6 shots! At this pint we asked the waitress if she can keep then coming since she said "the bar is very busy" asked her how to proceed with getting a bottle/table said she will inquire & come back - waitress never came back. we left the high table where we were initially at & proceeded to the bar. The bar only had ONE bartender serving the whole restaurant/lounge how is that even possible?!?! While waiting we saw a waitress asked her if we could have a table she said " hold on i'll be right back" she also never came back to talk to us. Then a bartender came to help at the bar, FINALY took our order, again we ordered shots! when we paid she said " you guys could have gotten a bottle" told her that's what we've been trying to do but no one is responding to us. Just so you guys understand the service was bad from beginning to the END. At this point we were very disappointed since we were "okay, we will look into getting you a table" to one of the bartender yelling at us for not giving her a 15% tip because of the shitty service we were getting. She said, i quote "We will not be serving you, if you won't be tipping us". We looked at her, left our drinks & left the lounge. I would suggest the owner to better train his employee because the customer service level was VERY SHITTY. I've heard negative things about this restaurant prior to going there I didn't believe it & wanted to see it for myself & best believe it's true! A 2hr drive wasted because of shitty customer service.

The food was delicious quick service. The staff Clara & Ciara were super nice, friendly. the only things is we were at the bar but they were actually table to seat from the moment we arrive to the end, this way we weren't on other people convo & business.The air can be a little smokey & uncomfortable. The place is very nice, its a bit like a super club. If you want to enjoy a nice well marinated meal before heading somewhere else afterwards, very nice option & easy parking. If you looking to hang out drink eat tapas style carabean food its better to reserv after 8.. in addition,some of the staff look like they dint know how to be busy... little bit more training on this part.

Upon booking our reservation online weeks in advance, we mentioned to the restaurant that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. On arrival, the hostess proceeded to sit us at the bar instead of the "reserved" tables that were available & we watched walk-in customers (with no reservations) being seated at tables. After demanding a table, we immediately ordered our vegan meals (which were delicious) but had a really hard time waving down our waitress to place an order for a pitcher (which was mostly made of ice) & to pay our bill (where she asked if we wanted separate bills on our anniversary). The ambiance was nice & the house DJ (Star Q) was amazing. All in all, we had a mixed experience. Hopefully, it was the exception & not the rule.

Went with my wife around 7pm on a Saturday, hostess tried seating us at the bar saying there's no tables available. Restaurant was empty. When I reserved a week in advance I booked a table in the restaurant so not sure what changed. After some confusion got a small table & hostess reminded us again we have the table for 2 hours lol. Poutine with lobster was good. Ordered the Jerk chicken & Rasta pasta it came out within 2mins of us ordering it. Didn't know that's possible. Drinks were subpar. Beer was good only one option. Waitress was nice & helpful. Not sure if the place wants to be a restaurant or a bar or club? I guess it's all three. Felt like the the club was more important than the food.

J'étais là avec ma famille pour le souper (& pour souligner la graduation de notre fille). Alors on est venu tôt comme le resto se transforme plus en bar plus tard dans la soiree.
Excellente bouffe (qualité & présentation; vraiment spécial), bonne service. La place est agreablement climatisé. Beau décor. Seule hic: stationnement n'est pas facile à trouver, alors prennez le métro ( ça vous permettra aussi de plus profiter des délicieux coktails.
On y va retourner (en métro)!

In 30 years of dining out, I've never experienced a restaurant as poor as this. It's hard to call this a restaurant. A bar perhaps, with dreadful bar food. The staff were doing shots with each other behind the bar, ignoring guests, having their own party & it was only 8.30 pm. It seemed like patrons were a nuisance, interrupting their fun. There is no hint of service. The food was a combination of under cooked, cold, tasteless & inedible. On paper it sounds like it would work, the idea is good, the menu would work.
