I visited this restaurant for the first time a few weeks ago. The food was average, as I've had better South Indian cuisine elsewhere. It's also a bit pricey-especially if you want to add extras like cheese, which can make the meal even more expensive.
That said, my overall experience was good, & the service was excellent.
The first time trying south indian food in Montreal, & it won't be my last time.what an amazing dosa they have. I had the masala Chess dosa, I loved it.
Sathish is one of the best restaurant hosts in the city. I've always had excellent service here. As a Tamilian from Mumbai, Thanjai feels like a home away from home. & the food is flavourful, subtle, & is not an assault on the senses like most other Indian restaurants in the city. Food that feeds the soul anyways. Update: They also sell the best idli batter here. I have never made idlis before but it was incredibly easy with their batter (photos attached)
Amazing food ,taste & quantity is greatest! Best authentic South Indian food if you would like to try them . Mutton briyani & egg kothu was ultimate... The epic is the Thanjai periya kovil statue in entrance is spellbound.
One of the best South Indian cuisine restaurant in Canada, the taste feels like home , good portion size great presentation. There was a gentleman who gave me a great service, always with a smile. Highly recommend & would be surely coming back.
Thanjai has always been that go-to place for South indian cuisine for us. Even though we make dosa, idli, vada at home, but sometimes you just want to go out & eat. This time, we decided to try the big dosa around 3ft-4ft, I guess. It's just a regular plain dosa, just bigger in size, & you get your sambhar, chutney, & potato mix on the side. Good enough for 2 ppl. We did order dahi vada on the side, chicken curry & mango lassi. Everything was really good.
Had the most delicious shrimp curry at this place. Such a complex blend of flavors with just the right amount of heat. Wait time to order & wait for your food is very reasonable. Also, the staff are so kind & attentive. Would definitely recommend this place as your next casual Indian meal! Edit: I forgot to mention that everything on their menu is very well labelled for most major food restrictions. I have celiac & it was so clear which items on the menu were gluten free, which is so appreciated!!
Discovered this place after 4 months in Montreal. Was homesick for South Indian food. The rice thali here took us back straight to India; authentic taste of Tamil Nadu! Generous veggie portions. Good ambience as well as service.
Food was wonderful, tasty & plentiful. The staff were courteous & very welcoming. Honestly this is a fantastic place for Indian food regardless of the size of your group.
