Reviews describe Taqueria La Matraca as a standout for authentic, affordable Mexican street style tacos in Montreal, with praise for al pastor and lengua, suadero, and queso fundido, plus tasty salsas and tortillas that feel fresh rather than processed. The menu is wide and varied, offering good value at reasonable prices, and a friendly, family run vibe in a casual setting. While flavors are consistently strong and portions satisfying, some notes mention slower service, room for décor improvements, and the occasional fatty dish or limited vegetable options. Overall, the restaurant is regarded as one of the best taco spots in Montreal, loved for its variety, friendly staff, and repeatable quality.
The service was amazing. Super nice & attentive. Loved the ambiance, the music…
On the other hand, the beef had a lot of pieces of fat, like more than half the meat in my tacos :(
(I had 3, & all had a lot of pieces of fat in them) Not too sure if it's custom in this type of cuisine, but I haven't had this many pieces in any other restaurant that served the same dish.
As for the other two, missing flavor, but texture was good!!
Probably would not return, but for people who don't mind pieces of fat, worth trying 😊
I really loved the tacos & tortas! The salsas are amazing. The best part is the service & the good attitude of Daniela she served us kindly & was lovely. Highly recommend!

Such a great casual taco place. Super cheap & small plates so it's perfect for a lot of variety & sharing. During the summer sitting outside & having those tacos is such a great way to spend a sunny day. Flautitas are a great starter, & don't be scared to try the beef tongue (Lengua) it's very good 🐮👅

Authentic & simple location. Menu is basic Mexican. Presentation of the dishes, which is usually key for me, was ordinary. Not a bad location but simply did not meet my expectations.
I love coming here for the great tacos & the good prices, but today we didn't get our order right & when it came to pay I was practically forced to put a tip which I found I really rude since it is optional & I should not be forced or make me feel bad for choosing not to put one
