Since 1957, St-Viateur Bagel has been a central part of the culture and daily life of Montreal. Its legendary landmark bagel shop operates 24/7 and sells over 1,000 dozen bagels a day. St-Viateur Bagel was founded by Myer Lewkowicz who brought his now famous recipe from Eastern Europe. The art of bagel making means hand rolling each one and baking them in a wood-burning oven. The current owner, Joe Morena, with over 45 years of experience in the bagel business, ensures that the traditions at St-Viateur Bagel continue to be respected. The bagels here were exactly as advertised, but what made it most special was the customer service. The gentleman who greeted us warmly, explained how the service worked & most importantly made us feel very much welcome. I was with my wife & 2 girls & we are definitely tourists & everyone seemed very keen to make sure we had a great experience. They represented their neighbourhood well & made recommendations of other local businesses. We came back later that day for some bagels to take home & they provided instructions how to freeze & prepare the bagels. I'm sorry I missed the name of the gentleman who greeted & helped us but we were grateful for his help. Good service matters & can really make an experience. Kudos.View more

I mean, I think you should try these Bagels at least once & wipe away any doubts 🥯 The service is good & quick; the food is good... However, the atmosphere of the place is not the best if you plan to dine in, there is usually a waiting line & it's a bit crowded.View more

Amazing bagel. I love the bagel here the most. However, service & cleanliness that what deduct the overall rating. HOWEVER, do visit. I came here everytime I visit Montréal (which is very often. I tried all the bagel with all spread, well not gonna lie, all of them are good. Heads-up with the size of each sandwich, quite big. I hope this place has a better selection of drinks. Maybe a milkshake, fresh juice or better selection of coffee.View more

We've been at the restaurant a few times now, & it was time for us to return to have another bagel sandwich. Actually, what made us go & visit was the publicity on the new bagel that was being sold without the hole in the middle there was a lot of controversy around it, & we wanted to go & give it a try for ourselves. Funny enough it does cook way differently as The texture is soft throughout. It's no longer a bagel with crispyness all around it's actually really soft & should not even be considered a bagel really. Anyway, we had our bagel sandwiches. We tried the new' bagel' & it was a fun time out. Where: St-Viateur Bagel & Café, Plateau Montreal What: A café & bagel place How was it: Service is average & a little confusing at times. The delicious St-Viateur bagel is what saves this place. No Bagel = no discovering destinations to come & eat. But seriously, if you are not in the mood to go out to a restaurant - you can simply buy the bagels & stay in. Grade: Eli = 4, Serge = 4- Recommend : The Bagels saves this place !View more

Listen to me. RUN. DO NOT WALK!!! I am not one to visit places that are hyped up but yall got it right with this one. The Le Steak bagel least. I would order solely that over & over again (on a rosemary & sea salt bagel). I was visiting town during a layover & decide to explore. A friend from Toronto recommend I check out this place, & some locals concurred it would be worth a visit before heading back to the airport. So glad I did!!!! Excited to return next time in in Montreal. The lemonade was also really good. The food looks basic as hell but the flavor is THERE. Ooof it a so good. 😭😭 10 out of 10.View more

Small charming cafe with exceptional bagels & wonderful staff. This place was recommended to me on our flight & absolutely did not disappoint!! My daughter who has never enjoyed bagels had a plain with Nutella & wanted more. My son had the club blt with pesto & loved it. My traditional was excellent. I 100% wish this place was in Houston. The Cafe usually has a bit of wait depending on the weather .. you can sit outside which is nice. Bagels are great & they make sandwiches too. Had the Smoked Meat & one more but honestly if you go to Montreal just grab Smoked Meat from Schwartz's or Dunn's or even Smoked Meat Pete right outside of Montreal. Bagels were fine & a little pricey to be honest .. sandwiches about $15 I prefer the non cafe locations where I can grab bagels & spreads & be on my way but if you're sitting down & having a nice time it's a good visit with delicious bagelsView more
