The bagels absolutely lived up to the hype.
The difference between U.S. water bagels & Montreal's is more than just shape-they're slightly sweet, flatter, & thinner, & here, they turn them into full-on sandwiches. I came here early in the morning with my girlfriend & was thrilled that this spot met expectations. I started with a simple bagel & cream cheese, & man, was it good. I ended up walking back in to order a dozen to take home, as well as a roadie for the walk back to the metro.
The staff was friendly & spoke English, French, & Spanish. Just one heads-up: they don't take American credit cards, so bring cash (CAD or USD) when you go.View more
An iconic Montreal bagel institution. Definitely worth a visit. Cash only.View more
Ever since this place was featured on the Netflix show Somebody Feed Phil, I've been wanting to visit-& the hype definitely doesn't disappoint. They have a variety of bagel sandwiches, both veg & non-veg, & my favourite has to be the fig & cream cheese one. It's on the sweeter side but pairs perfectly with an Americano.
This is a cash-only or debit location, so plan accordingly. The ambience is your classic cozy café vibe, & the patio is the best part.
If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of how the bagels are freshly made on-site. I genuinely enjoyed watching the entire process. The staff is super friendly & adds to the charm of the place.View more
Simply delicious! The staff was kind & they help you in anything you need. They dont accept credit card.so take cash with you. 😉🥯View more
Outstanding bagels. Very friendly staff. Note to international visitors: they don't take credit & they only accept debit from Canadian banks. So, bring CDN $s. For our entire week in Montreal, this is the only place I needed cash. But, it was nice to see what Canadian currency looks like these days (pretty sophisticated & intricate, with a different feeling than'paper' money)View more
Classic. Love it.
Saturday early afternoon wait outside for 2 ppl was about 25-30 min. Traditional is a must try. No credit cards - cash or debit only.View more
Really tasty bagel place, had ~20 minute queue when we arrived. It is cash only (shown on their menus), so make sure to have some cash on you. Staff were friendly & service was pretty quick. Bagels are a bit denser & smaller than an NYC bagel, & you can order them with cream cheese or as a sandwich. Definitely popular but would recommend a visit! Might try the other original location next time as this one seemed like it was populaView more
Well ..it's one of the touristy things to do in Montreal I guess.. nothing fancy.. it's a cash only or Canadian debit card place.. it was not my most favourite bagel but.. like I said something to do as a tourist.. the line for the dine-in was super long.. we went just for the bagles(take out) & that line moved pretty fast.. I think we waited for like 5 mins.. Montreal bagel is smaller & denser than the other bagels I've tried or made.. so this is something you can do just for the experienceView more
IMO the second best bagel in Montreal. You have to wait maybe 20-30 minutes in line & it's cash only. I really liked the sesame bagel, I got it as the classic lox sandwich.View more
THIS IS A CASH ONLY ESTABLISHMENT (Canadian OR US cash) They also take Canadian Debit cards (?) - there is some sort of debit card system but not for foreign cards. Secondly - if you want bagel sandwiches this is the only location that does it. The original St. Viateur bagel location on Rue St. Viateur DOES not do sandwiches. Overall, I thought the bagel was okay - we were told to ask to order whatever was the freshest bagel, for us that was the sesame. It was cool to see them hand rolling the bagels. The bagels are not warm for the sandwiches. I thought the traditional bagel sandwich (smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers) was alright - honestly felt like the bagel was missing flavoring (likely salt). The line outside wasn't too long, maybe took about 20 minutes to get inside & sit & eat. Not terrible. There are two lines outside, the one to the right (when facing the door) is for takeout bagels ONLY (no sandwiches) the one on the left is for sandwiches & sitting in the restaurant (can also do takeout, but you still need to stand on the line to the left). Last note, if you are HUNGRY these bagels are quite light. You can definitely eat more than one if you want to be full.View more
St-Viateur Bagel is the hot Montreal bagel destination. Really good, multiple locations, just be prepared to wait in line to get in, line moves decently quick though. I got the ricotta fig jam sandwich & I personally thought it was lacking a key flavor element. The fig jam overpowered the ricotta. It was still good, but the bagel was the highlight & not so much the sandwich ingredients. The St-Viateur Bagel locations only take cash but they accept USD or Canadian cash or Canadian debit. You can skip the wait line if you're just going to pick up a bag of bagels vs eating there. I brought home myself 6 bagels in my new St Viateur Bagel tote ✨View more
Expensive & long wait even for take out... & the cashier made me break another paper bill because I was .1 cent short I had .50¢ & it was .53¢ I'm sorry but as a business owner myself in this economy you take cash & you don't treat clients like this... I know your spot is very hyped by tourists so you have a lot of movement but I'm a local client that comes often & this situation kinda sucks.View more
View more
Bagel itself tastes pretty good & I would love to come back to try a simple bagel with spread. Eggplant sandwich was a bit too strong & the other sandwiches were mediocre. It's pretty busy & CASH only.View more
Great place to stop by when you are in Montreal. Bagels were delicious! My favorite is the rosemary & sea salt. Then again all of them were really good. We bought two dozens to share with our family. They all loved it! Staff was super friendly & accommodating that there were some non-Canadians who didn't have cash, the staff at cash still helped them so they were able to get some bagels. Love your bagels! Thank youView more
Non-Canadians: They do not accept foreign cards! Bring cash. Delicious bagels! Get the iconic salmon 🍣🥯 bagel. I love that they serve it with a lemon. A perfect citrus touch 🍋💛 Expect a line. We waited about 20 minutes to get our bagels.View more
Cash only bagel place with lots of options & English service/menus. Sandwich was really good. To note, it's not really a cafe where you can sit & enjoy a coffee. It has seating but they are turning the tables quick!View more
Great bagel sandwiches. One star off for being cash only despite being a large, busy cafeView more
Très bon bagels, le service est rapide mais il y a souvent la queue. Attention, ils ne prennent que le cash ou les cartes de débit (pas de crédit & pas de cartes internationales)View more
Love the bagels, best in the world IMO. I just can't wrap my head around this being a cash-only business in 2024, especially with the amount of foreign tourists coming through here & the extensive list of merchandise they sell. Is there any reason (beyond tax fraud) that makes sense?View more
Une bonne expérience !View more
If you're looking for a great Montreal bagel experience, this is the place to go. It is a little touristy, but the bagels were chewy & hot & served with plenty of cream cheese. This place only takes cash (American or Canadian) or Canadian debit cards though, so plan ahead if you're visiting from out of town.View more
As fans of Somebody Feed Phil , bagels from St-Viateur Bagel are definitely a must-try. It's really good & the texture was totally from bagels in NYC. Our only complaint would be the payment is Cash Only.View more
Decent cafe with a good bagel--it was not very chewy for a bagel imo. Not the greatest as I've had better, my friend said the coffee was not good either. The employees were very sweet but it doesnt quite makeup for the quality. & they don't accept Credit card. Only accepts CASH (USD or CAD) or Canadian debit card. Many tourists had to be turned away from service.View more
Not only the bagels are fresh all the ingredient they use are fresh. Friendly staff. They only accept cash or debit. Parking was hard to find in the area.View more
Excellent bagels. Getting them fresh makes a difference. Seeing the oven & how they were flipping it was pretty neat too. Note that it's cash & debit only.View more
Tourists must pay cash, the only type of card accepted is the canadian one. But the food is actually very good, I loved this place.View more
Felt like the staff was more trying to get through their orders than actually putting some effort into their bagels. This huge chunk of onion was in my bagel not even the end of it being cut off where to root was attached. The cream cheese was only spread on one side which made it go everywhere from the amount they put in. Spread it on both sides in my opinion would easily resolve the huge mess that came with the bagel. Friendly staff! Everything was freshly made, you can see the bagels being made in front of you & put in their bagel oven so you know it's fresh. Huge line for an ok bagel. Also make sure you have Canadian cash or Canadian debit card only. They don't accept visas. 2023 surely with the amount of business this place is generating they can afford to pay for credit card service.View more
Les bagels sont très bons mais plutôt cher, service à emporter assez rapide mais les options de paiements sont assez étrange (accepte cash en USD & CAD, mais pas de carte de crédit).View more
