I was going to schwartzs but they said I would be queing for ages… everytime I walked by schwartzs there was a que. If you've been to a kosher deli in london, this is exactly like that. The smoked meat was delicious. Distinct from londons salt beef & new yorks pastrami. Well worth it. The fries looked amazing but I wanted Knisch as we dont get those in London.
Iconic Deli that has been around for decades! I had it when I was a little kid (that's like …. A long time ago!😉) & decided to go back in time to try their famous smoked meat & corn beef! I ordered a smoked meat sandwich (medium fat) & a corn beef platter ( corn beef, fries & pickles) at the take out counter. The staff was friendly & service was quick. They even gave me a few complimentary pastries.
The sandwich was really moist & melt in your mouth. A very good old fashioned smoked meat sandwich. Not as smoky flavour as other establishments but very delicious. The corn beef was just as I remembered. Boiled instead of smoked & the texture is a little more firm.
Deli seats about 50, service is friendly & knowledgeable. Good variety on the menu. 6am-6pm, Parking may be a challenge as only metered parking.
Reasonably priced. Worth the visit!
One of the best deli in town. I got some corned beef & matzot ball, just amazing. I recommend this place! Service is effective. Decently priced.

An old school deli serving smoked brisket & other deli & non deli options.
SMOKE MEAT sandwich $15.95
The smoked meat was ok. Typical rye bread with mustard.
HOT BRISKET sandwich $15.95
The brisket with the gravy itself isn't bad. Soft. Very tender & easy to eat.
DAILY SOUP (pea soup) $7.00
Noodles in. Was ok.
Overall. Portions are a bit smaller & considering the price. Understand that beef prices have gone up, but seems a bit expensive for the portions given no other sides are included.
Paid Street parking at $3/hr.
Ordered twice for takeout:
First time, smoke meat poutine was great. Second time, there was barely any smoke meat, very disappointing.
Smoke Meat platter was good, Beef Brisket was even better. Definitely in the top of our list of good eats in Montreal.
Service was great, the gentleman taking our order was helpful & straightforward.
We'll definitely be back, but maybe we'll just stick to the platters.
I like this place better than Schwartz for the food & homestyle vibe. Amazing poutine & corned beef. Outstanding.
Apparently good smoked beef sandwiches but I went for eggs Benedict. They were OK. I won't be back.
Whilst most tourists opt for the Montreal Smoked Meat at the iconic' Schwartz'. We decided to follow the recommendations of a few local chefs & head over to another Montreal institution,' Snowdon Deli' instead. In our opinion, in addition to equally if not better tasting Smoked meat, Corn Beef & Brisket, Snowdon also offers a bigger & more varied menu.
The result? A most enjoyable casual lunch with stand-out sandwiches, Jewish deli fare & a mindbogglingly good Chicken soup with dumplings( kreplach)!
Great spot! My favourite spots are now Katz (NYC), Schwartz & now on 3rd Snowdon Deli! Standing with the greats 💪 our favourite was the Smoked meat sandwich medium. The table next to us ordered sausage appetizers & club roll sandwich! We def getting that. The hot brisket was different & delicious! Try it. Corned beef was not our favourite, but everything else was great!we coming again soon.
When talking about smoked meat sandwiches in Montreal, as I researched, people always recommend Snowdon & Schwartz's. I haven't tried the other one, in my experience in Snowdon, the smoked beef sandwich is definitely top notch. I chose a medium fatty meat which was so tender & juicy with moderate smoky flavor, & I regretted having shared with family Lol. Turkey sandwich is recommended as well, different from our usual turkey ham. Meat balls are great too, just not out of my expectation. Kids love the sauce on meat balls. Others are just average, would not recommend the fries or salad.
