I was very pleased with the food. I was surprised to find a smoked meat that I actually like more than what I generally find in Montreal, like Swartz's for example. However there's a little bit too much pepper in my opinion. I guess next time I'll see if I can ask for less.
Amazing smoked meat! Hidden gem for delicious Montreal smoked meat.
Be prepared for a wait though. We waited for 30minutes on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant is also very crowded so it would be tough to eat with lots of kids or a group of over 6 people.

Je suis pas à mon premier smoke Meat à vie
I brought my cousin from out of town here to have some promised good Montreal smoked meat. We opted to come here because it is a historic place for good smoked meat & it's closer than downtown. The prices we're reasonable, the fries are amazing, the smoked meat good but the portion seems smaller than expected & mine had too much fatty meat...which made me wonder why I wasn't asked what cut of meat I prefer? Maybe it's my fault that I forgot to ask or maybe you don't have a choice on what you get 🤷 Too bad because otherwise it was a nice venue if you like reminiscing & going back in time 😊 This is the perfect experience for an original Quebec highway casse-croute/pataterie & smoked meat venue to bring people from out of town, & also for the locals! Note that you must order & pay first & then pick a table where they will serve you the food. I will go back & try to get a lean cut next time!
Si vous aimez l'ambiance avec musique forte, show live 7/7 & les meilleurs sandwich smoked meat de la région avec vraies frites maison! Beaucoup de places à l'intérieur, décor des années 70
I make a pit stop here on every visit to Montreal since the cuts of meat are amazing, & the taste is simply lovely!
It might seem a little pricy, but the sandwich & fries are worth every penny.
The best part is that you can also buy the meat & bread to make sandwiches at home!
Another pit stop, another delicious meal!
They have live music nights & quick, friendly service.
It's totally worth the visit.
I've been going to Smoked Meat Pete's for many years, & I want to start by saying that I genuinely like their smoked meat - I still do. The flavor, seasoning, & overall taste are what made this place famous, & that part has remained consistent over time.
However, it's hard to ignore the changes that have happened recently, & unfortunately not for the better. The portion sizes have gone down dramatically, while prices have gone up noticeably. When you're charging premium prices for a smoked meat sandwich & a poutine, customers naturally expect the portions to remain generous, or at the very least consistent with what they were known for.
What's disappointing is that the value just isn't there anymore. Paying that much & walking away feeling like the sandwich is noticeably smaller than it used to be takes away from the experience, no matter how good the taste still is. The same goes for the poutine - higher price, smaller portion.
Taste-wise, the smoked meat is still good, but honestly, I'm now getting very similar - & in some cases even better - flavor at Markies in Ottawa, where the portions are bigger & the prices are more reasonable. When another spot can match the taste while offering better value, it really makes you think twice.
I don't say this lightly because Smoked Meat Pete's has been a go-to spot for me for a long time. I want to keep supporting them, but portion shrinkage combined with rising prices is hard to justify. If you're going to increase prices, at least maintain the portion sizes that built your reputation in the first place.
The food is still tasty, but value matters - & right now, that balance feels off.
