Shô-Dan is the product of the friendship of three young chefs, passionate about cuisine and art. Loaded with talent, they use the artistic baggage and years of experience in the kitchen to make your outing at one of their restaurants an unforgettable event.
The à la carte menu at Shô-Dan is very elaborate, creative and ideal for those who want to take a chance. Among the specialties are the succulent blueberry sushi, Blue Shadow and the sushi pizza, served on a bed of rice with spicy mayonnaise and smoked salmon. Many different creations are offered, and change every week. The plates are presented in the traditional Japanese aesthetic and reflect the artistic talent of the chefs. A warm service is offered by a young and dynamic team that is always smiling.
To distinguish itself from other sushi restaurants, Shô-Dan accepts special orders. The chefs will try to satisfy your every wish. It is also possible and quite gratifying, to add a perfectly matched wine to your sushi selection. Both establishments are spacious and can welcome over 150 people. The large sushi bar surrounds the chefs and allows you to see them at work. During your visit, you will immerse yourself into the authentic culinary spirit of Japan.
Overall, Shô-Dan is praised for outstanding classic sushi alongside inventive, unforgettable creations, with fresh ingredients, meticulous presentation, and a refined ambiance that blends elegance with a welcoming energy. Service is attentive and friendly, and the open kitchen, a pianist, and the chic setting enhance the dining experience. The menu pairs traditional nigiri with bold specialty rolls that impress, and a varied wine list complements meals well. While prices are on the higher side, they align with other top sushi spots and many feel that the quality and creativity justify the cost, with occasional minor issues such as edamame being a touch overcooked or rare service gaps.
Overall a little expensive for the quality. It's good but not really worth the price. Nice variety with some interesting sushi options. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. Impeccable service.
If you like sushi, this is an absolute must-go restaurant. Not only does the chef create outstanding classic sushi, but they also introduce you to unique, unforgettable creations you won't find anywhere else.
We trusted the server to choose for us-& we definitely did not regret that decision. It made the experience even better.
Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. The prices are on the higher end, but they're in line with other high-quality sushi restaurants & absolutely worth it.

Delightful sushi, amazingly fresh fish, original flavours & textures- definitely some of the best sushi in the city. Yes the price is steep, but it is reflected in the quality & quantity of the fish, beautiful presentation, & great service.
The sushi & sashimi are very good. Tempura & black cod are okay but not remarkable. Overall, the food is good, & price is not bad. The sushi & sashimi platters are excellent. Service is prompt. The restaurant seems very clean, & it's nice that they have a pianist playing soft music in the background. Very busy place, so I would recommend making a reservation.
Sho-Dan, in my opinion, offers some of, if not the best, sushi in the city. This is a place highly frequented for business lunches & for good reason. The quality of the fish is always incredibly fresh & the rolls are expertly prepared. They offer very unique types of rolls which avoid the use of cheap fillers like tempura & spicy mayo, & you consistently get excellent cuts of fish. I highly recommend every roll I've tried on the menu (which by now is almost everything), but I have to say that the lawyer is my favourite, a very unique roll. This is not your traditional Japanese sushi dining experience (ie. This is not a place that focuses on sashimi & basic maki rolls, although they can be ordered), but the specialty rolls are truly out of this world & justify their price. Highly recommend this place for a nice sushi experience. I've been here for dinner & lunch & had excellent experiences for both services.

For the price, the food was excellent! Very affordable for quality/high end sushi! Decor & ambiance are very nice, & the service was STELLAR! Nice spot for a first date!
Sho-dan targets the business crowd located in Montreal's downtown core. The wine list is fine, the patrons are fine, the dining is fine, & the prices match. While the fish is merely of reasonable quality, the chef put a lot of thought into creating interesting rolls that feature texture, taste & aroma.
