Stylish atmosphere, friendly staff, & beautifully presented dishes. We enjoyed the chicken & fish skewers, gado gado, rendang, chicken curry, & pandan crème brûlée-the dessert was the highlight. While everything was well-cooked & satisfying, the flavours lacked the boldness & depth we've experienced in Southeast Asia. The drinks were refreshing but mild. A pleasant experience overall, just not as punchy as hoped.View more

I really enjoyed the food at Satu Lagi! All of the items we ordered were delicious.

Since we were two, they offered to add an extra skewer to each dish for an additional fee so we could each enjoy two skewers per plate, & we appreciated this. I will say though, the food is on the pricier side so just be prepared for that.

We tried 3 satay skewers, the chicken, beef, & shrimp. They were all delicious & flavorful. The chicken & beef were very moist while the shrimp was a little bit overcooked but the sauce was so good. My favorite dishes were the chicken satay (Ayam), beef satay (Daging) & the Chinese broccoli dish (Kailan Bakar).

I was really happy with my overall experience. The staff was friendly & attentive. We also got lucky to be seated right away without reservations but I would recommend that you make reservations as they did get very busy. I would definitely go back, especially to try their bunch menu!View more

A nice brunch spot on Mont-Royal. Went there with some friends for brunch & we tried an assortment of the satay entrees & the mains. They also had bottomless mimosa for 30$, which we found to be very reasonable. Overall I would recommend trying it out for brunch

The stand outs were definitely the satay skewers, we especially liked the beef & the fish. As for the mains, the maple fried chicken was pretty good.

As for the service, it was alright throughout the meal, the food came out a bit slow instead of all together which led to some waiting.View more

Had an incredible meal here. Server was welcoming & offered excellent recommendations from the all gluten-free menu. I had two small plates plus dessert & was absolutely stuffed. Chicken satay & pandan crème brûlée were highlights. This spot is best for smaller parties of 4 or less, & reservations recommended as it fills up quickly.View more

We had a great meal at Satu Lagi. The waiter guided us through the menu & we opted for the Jamur Jamur mushrooms (great with a sambal sauce), chicken satay (not bad but not great), rendang beef curry (a little one note in flavour), Chinese broccoli (so delicious!), & a chili cocktail (yummy)!View more

Born in the archipelago, I was tempted to try something comforting from home. However, though I was upset that it didn't taste the same & was honestly very disappointed - & the waiter told me if I told them I was born there, they could modify it such that it becomes more relatable (which I did, so I'm confused). Wanted something light so ended up getting something easy for them to make (that was not too slow). I packed them back home to my aprtment to give it a second go with the Montreal palate in mind. Fried chicken tasted regular - for 2 pieces it did not justify the price especially since you could get better ones at other Western stores. The honey sauce was delicious. The geprek was not done properly...chicken was cold & unsalted. With an open mind, I think the salted egg tahu telur was alright. Good blend of flavour - & it was refreshing to have a taste of tofu done the SEA way. For these I paid 30+ CAD - super overpriced for some street food. I would come again for other dishes just to be curious. Also, was upset that I was not informed that they had a specialty laksa on the front page - which I only realised after I was packing the excess home. Wished the waiter could've done so in the beginning instead of showing me the small dishes. Rating it a 3/5 - would be better if I had a better seat but my fault since it was reservation only - would be nice if they had indo-malay music - best if the waiter could have told me their laksa on first page - would come again just to give it another chance as I saw the other reviews with dishes i would eat but was not aware it was on the menuView more

While staying in Montreal we decided for try Satu Lagi for dinner. First off, our server Zachery was very attentive & gave us a full run down off the menu & suggested some apps & mains. My partner is celiac & majority of the options on the menu were fully gluten free. They also use separate fryers & make sure they can accommodate the best they can! For our apps we got Brussels sprouts, the fried chicken, fried mushrooms & chicken skewers . For our mains we got veggies & rice which were amazing. It was little sweet for my liking but over all good. If you're in Montreal & have a gluten allergy Satu Lagi if definitely worth trying out. Good for a date night but also for lunch. We didn't get any drinks but the bar seating & bar look fully stocked & the drinks looked great! Will definitely recommend this to friends who visit Montreal & need a dinner/lunch spot!View more

We went there for dinner. For the atmosphere & service, it's a bit expensive. The portions are ridiculously small. Especially the Sambhal, 4 tiny portions of sauces which lacked flavour & were not spicy at all. Chicken satay was good. All you can taste is the coconut milk in the beef rendang. It was a bit too much. The rice was very dry & crunchy. There was hardly any salt. At times it was confusing as what to add or mix to get it right. Being a big fan of Malaysian & Indonesian food, I was very disappointed. Also, the most popular dishes were not on the menu.View more

I've been craving & missing Indo-Malay cuisine for years, & having Satu Lagi in Montreal just makes me want to go & feast. So went there during lunch on a Friday & ordered the Nasi Campur - Mixed Rice, Nasi kuning, beef rendang, 1 telur belado, 1 stick chicken satay, a bit of sayur lemak & keropok udang for 32CAD. People will say expensive, but I guess due to rarity for this type of cuisine here in Montreal makes it worth it. & yes, if you want to taste & you miss Indo-Malay food, then come here. The rendang is as good as it get, the satay is more into kicap manis type than the turmeric kunyit variety. The telur belado really has that kick, though I guess they tried to mellow it down a bit for western pallet. What can I say? I can't wait to try their nasi lemak & bakar ikan pari. & hopefully they'll do an ayam penyet🥰.View more

We had the most incredible dinner at Satu Lagi during our trip to Montreal. The resto is fully GF so you can enjoy a delicious meal fully relaxed. This popular spot is super busy so book reservations in advance. Absolutely everything we ordered was INCREDIBLE!!!! Beautiful environment with an open kitchen. Stylish & cool. We enjoyed our meal with a bottle of Saki & our 12 year old was delighted with the unusual stunning colour of her crème brûlée. Order lots of small plates to enjoy many different flavours. You won't be disappointed. Some of our favourites were: crispy fried mushrooms, chicken satay with peanut sauce, vegetables & tofu in coconut milk, grilled Chinese broccoli, coconut milk beef stew, both rice dishes, etc etc etc. We want to visit Montreal again just to return to this restaurant!!!View more

the food is so unique & amazing! it's a wonderful & refreshing experience to try Indonesian/Malaysian cuisine that isn't as popular like other parts of Asia's culinary game. i highly recommend the sambals, beef rendang, fried fish, jackfruit stew, the fried chicken with fermented honey, pandan crême brûlée & the pandan drink is delightful! do be prepared as Indo/Malay cooking is spicyyy!!! otherwise, the chefs really have the flavour profile down - coconut, galangal, lime, chilis, tamarind, etc. the staff & service is always great too :)View more

Although most of the food was good, we did take issue with the portion size. When we ordered the chicken wings, it said 5/ch & 6/ch, which we assumed would mean we got our 5 & 6 pieces respectively. What ended up happening was that we only got one big chicken wing, one of them lathered in a very spicy sauce. We do know that in the menu it said it would be spicy, but we do feel as if it was too spicy. When we commented lightheartedly on this to the waiter, he said that he should have warned us. The sauce on my friend's plate, which was placed on the side, was not advertised as spicy either. Although the ingredients were clearly listed on the menu item of the chocolate pudding, we did not know that it would leave a bad taste. My only question is why would you make a chocolate pudding with durian, a fruit that's supposed to taste like cheese, almonds, garlic & caramel all at once? Maybe it wasn't for me, but I found the taste to be very unpleasant. Our last complaint is how they will have a 2 groups of 2 people share an outdoor table of 4 without warning. I made a reservation for 2 at the counter but our hostess asked if we would prefer eating outdoors without letting us know of the possibility of being sat with others later on. We did have 2 people sat with us, however, one of them showed & verbally expressed discomfort & decided to eat somewhere else. A minute later, another 2 people sat with us without asking my friend & I any sort of permission. We understand that other tables may be reserved, but we feel as if the 2 connected tables should be separated in order to create space & privacy. It was awkward for both parties, none of us talking at all & when we did we were able to hear everything. The last group of 2 people did ask for the tables next to us, but the hostess said that they were for 4 people.View more

Nothing but great things to say about Satu Lagi - everything exceeded expectations. Traveling with Celiac disease is always stressful, so being able to have anything in the menu is such a treat. & even more so when it's all delicious. We ordered the fried mushrooms (Jamur Jamur), the broccoli (Kailan), & the scallops (Pétoncles Poêlées) - all excellent, but I think the fried fish cakes was the star appetizer. The curry chicken (Kari Ayam) was our favorite main, & the satay was a top notch side car. Disappointed to report we didn't sane room for dessert, but I can attest that the cocktail I had (the chili mutiara) was phenomenal. I like a little heat in my cocktail, & along with the smoke from the mezcal this was on point. As if the food (did I mention entirely gluten free?) wasn't enough of a reason to visit, the service, ambiance, & location all exceeded expectations too.View more

The fact that this place is entirely gluten free & lactose free made it a paradise for my family as my brother is celiac & I am lactose intolerant. The ambiance is elegant & cozy at the same time. We tried quite a few items on the menu & the fried mushrooms (Jamie Jamur), spicy shrimp (Balado Udang Petai), & chicken satay brochette (Satay Ayam) were clear standouts. The crispy fried chicken was okay, I wish it had more of a kick to it. The crème brûlée was also really good & completely dairy free.View more

One of the very few (if not only) Indonesian inspired restaurants in Montreal, Satu Lagu was a nice place to enjoy Asian style food but of a particular savor that you would not normally be accustomed too...it's certainly not Chinese, nor Vietnamese (although closer to the latter than the former) with a lighter set of flavors & with an emphasis on umami-like essences.

Located on Mont-Royal East, the décor of the restaurant is clean, bright with hints of the cuisines' cultural roots (monkey light fixtures, rattan ceiling details, etc...) while the meal service is more tapas style than anything else. For our meal we asked our server (a very friendly & helpful Juliette) for the best-of options & went from there. We had the Ayam Goreng (plain & Manis (which is very spicy)...essentially fried chicken drumsticks but with an excellent batter), Belacan Satay (simple chicken skewers with a gritty shrimp flavored peanut sauce...good), Tauhu Telur Asin (a fried tofu dish...excellent), Kailan (a spinach/broccoli style dish with oyster sauce flavoring...good) & the House (Jasmin) Rice with Coconut flavoring (very good). For dessert we had a surprisingly excellent Pandan Creme Brule...very, very good. Finally, we paired the meal with a surprisingly appropriate beer called Doux Bisous which had a light citrus flavor & really worked well with this style of cuisine.

The food portions were on the smaller side (like tapas) however the service was done one dish at a time with the rice at the end. This was not how we eat typical meals as we prefer rice to be included & used as a base for the dish. We didn't realize this until the end but, now that we know we would have asked for the dishes to be served in quick sequence & especially for the rice to be brought earlier.

Service was very good &, as mentioned, our server was knowledgeable & helpful. Tired of the same-old Chinese & Vietnamese dishes then certainly give Satu Lagi a try. Enjoy!View more

Was really excited to try this place, planned the Montreal trip also around it. Was a bit disappointed. Not that the food wasn't good, but it just wasn't anything special for the price. The service, atmosphere & overall maintenance was great but they could up their game with the variety on food. The cocktail was also good (Paradin Rice). We had the Satay Daging (beef) & marinated Calamari. We also tried the Fried chicken.View more
