Tried Palme Restaurant for a solo lunch recently-it's just a five-minute walk from my office, so perfect for a midday break. First thing I appreciated: they offer a lunch menu, but only Thursdays & Fridays from 11:30 to 3 PM. A nice little treat if you're nearby & want something a bit special without overthinking it.
I ordered the fried chicken bowl & asked if I could add a half-portion of sweet potato fries. The staff was super accommodating about that. Heads up: portions are generous. I couldn't finish it all, but trust me, that fried chicken is worth pacing yourself for. Light, crispy outside, juicy inside, with a thin honey sauce that's subtle-just enough to tie it all together without making the chicken soggy or overly sweet. One of those bites where you pause & think,'Okay, they get it.'
They also include their homemade pikliz, which is spicy (the real kind, not the'hint of spice' kind). So if you're new to Haitian cuisine, be ready for a kick-it's the good kind of heat, though, fresh & sharp.
The only thing I wasn't entirely sold on was the mesclun salad. A few leaves felt either a bit wilted or too wet, not sure if it was old greens or maybe just a heavy hand with the vinaigrette.
All in all, it came to about $30 with tax & tip, which felt fair for the quality & amount of food. Especially nice if you're looking for something flavorful & filling but not overly heavy for lunch.
Would I go back? Absolutely-especially if I'm craving that fried chicken again.View more
Nice ambiance but the food is nothing special. The cod fritters were more like flour fritters, I could hardly taste any cod.. The geiot had a nice texture but bland flavor. The pata salad was plain macaroni tossed with a few greens. The grilled goat was nice though. In all, not a good price quality offering. There is much better Haitian food for much less.View more
Went to this restaurant for the first time, after a recommendation. The cocktails are great. I ordered the octopus on a bed of salad. It was good. However, the beef dish... Killed the evening. I asked for medium rare... I got instead a piece of leather. Meat was overcooked & the piece was full of nerve endings. Not tender at all. GF ordered shrimp with bacon. She was told they were out of bacon. But they still charged full price for the dish & didn't even offer a replacement for the missing bacon. All in all, very unpleasant experience. They were out of many items such as the duck & cold cut platter. Not going back there again.View more
Absolutely amazing in every way. The jerk chicken comes with plantains & salad & is so flavourful. The service was great & so were the drinks I will definitely be coming backView more
Palme has a laidback modern aesthetic that celebrates the Caribbean diaspora through food, music, & art. Walking in to the restaurant, you are immediately transported to a warm climate with palm trees, warm muted greens, & beige. The art on the walls celebrate black culture with portraits hung along the walls. &, the playlist has a super chill 90s/00s hip-hop vibe that you will never hear at neighboring venues. In one word, the atmosphere is DOPE. Palme also has an extensive rum list that will indulge anyone that has a keen taste for the liquor & knows that each island has their local favorite. For food, there is a balanced juxtaposition between sweet, spice, & savory. This is one of the few places in Montreal where I don't ask for salt & pepper on the side. The heat that is created from spicier dishes is warming rather than cutting, so don't be intimidated by the spices here. Menu highlights include: Accras de morue - Anyone who has been to Barbados will immediately be reminded of fish cakes! It is fried dough mixed with cod, herbs, & spices. Salade de griot - Pork & sweet potatoes with a tangy/sweet sauce over salad Saumon sur polenta de patate douce - This is fabulous! The salmon is soft & served over a sweet potato polenta that has a tangy sauce with crispy plantain & vegetables. It comes with a little warming heat that feels just right as we drift toward the cold months.View more
It is always a very nice experience to try new things. However, the fried chicken bowl is not as good as the Korean ones (personally, I would like the chicken to be salty & spicy rather than sweet). In Chinatown, the fried chicken in face of chez Chili is much better. // the sweet potato soupe is very creamy & very yellow, some people might like it. // my vegetarian friend likes his soupe a lot.// his salad sucks( but that's my opinion, he likes it a lot), the dessert tres leches is very tasty //en resume it's an interesting place worth trying, but the chicken is too dry & bland for me.View more
The griot salad & Mac & cheese were amazing. The daiquiri is a must tryView more
This was their goat on special with rice & peas, plantains & a salad. I didn’t really have any expectation for Caribbean food in Montreal but it was pretty good. I preferred the rice & peas & salad over the goat. The goat was seasoned well but over cooked.
The restaurant was good vibes & is a good pregame spot if you were getting ready to listen to Caribbean music. They had a DJ & it was pretty lively. Nice spot for a night out in Montreal.View more
