Review Summary

Solymar Montreal offers generous portions and a wide array of authentic Peruvian flavors, with favorites like ceviche and lomo saltado earning praise for quality, while large platters are ideal for sharing and groups. The ambiance is lively yet comfortable, and live music on some nights enhances the experience. Service is consistently attentive and friendly, and although some dishes are pricey, the generous portions, thoughtful presentation, and breadth of options provide good value, with recent visits noting improvements in seafood dishes and overall kitchen consistency.

This is hands down the best Peruvian food I've found in Montreal. From start to finish, the service was top-notch, the staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, & attentive. Every dish was exquisite, bursting with authentic flavors & served in very generous portions. A must-visit for anyone craving high-quality Peruvian cuisine!

An amazing Peruvian restaurant that truly delivers on flavor! The lomo saltado was absolutely outstanding, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, & easily one of the best I've had. Having recently traveled to Peru, I can say the authenticity here really shines through in the dishes.

The ceviche was slightly on the fishy side for my taste, but everything else was spot on. From the quality of the food to the overall experience, it was fantastic. Definitely a place I'd highly recommend if you're craving authentic Peruvian cuisine!

Our last night in beautiful Downtown Montreal & our final dining stop was Sol y Mar a warm family run business with numerous years in the culinary field which is very evident! Well we definitely weren't expecting to be blown away with the most exquisite Mediterranean Portuguese Cuisine your senses will experience! Our romantic date night began with the most charming movie-like window view spot seating! Our server David made our evening extra memorable. His professionalism, friendliness & attention to detail was extraordinary. Every dish we ate was prepared so beautifully with the highest quality to flavor & presentation! Exquisite, full of flavor & cooked to perfection! We have not had a meal like this in along time! So glad we stumbled across this amazing place in the cutest neighborhood with top notch food & excellent staff. The value & pricing was phenomenal for a feast like this! David we won't ever forget you & please save us our spot! We will be returning happily!! God Bless this family & small business for years to come!🙏

Honestly the main dishes are expensive, most of them turn around 30-40$ but the price does reflect the quality of the dishes. The fish was really fresh, the limonade & desserts were delicious. Expensive but in some ways worth it. It won't hurt to go here when you want a special treat. Also, the menu is really big, everyone should be able to find an option that would please them.
I will definitely go try it again to see if that was a lucky day or if the quality is consistent.

I'm editing my review. After coming back a couple of times, I've noticed several improvements. The quality of the plates has improved, especially the ones based on seafood. Ceviche is always good & Pisco Sour is the best I've tried in a very long time. Propably the most common plates are not so good (I don't like Jalea or Lomo Saltado here) but other plates are delicious (like Chupe, Pariguela). The desserts have also improved, I recommend the picarones. The prices are still a little high, but they're similar to other Peruvian restaurants in Montreal.

One of the best Peruvian restaurants in town. Quality & quantity.

Before, this was our go-to restaurant, however, recently they hiked up the prices & lowered the quality. Their servings are much smaller & with less seafood than before, increasing the amount of filler food. Although the service was good, I can't justify the amount they charge for what they deliver. Needless to say we will not be coming back, & I will be taking my business to one of the many other Peruvian restaurants.
