Restaurant Solymar Montreal delivers authentic Peruvian flavors with generous portions and a lively Latin ambiance where ceviche and seafood are frequently praised and the large menu offers something for every palate. Guests highlight fresh fish, tasty ceviche, and standout dishes like lomo saltado when well executed, along with crowd favorites such as chupe and picarones, plus reliable lunch specials and effective catering for office events. Prices are on the higher side, but many feel the quality and portions justify the cost, and recent visits show improvements in seafood dishes, desserts, and overall consistency. Service is generally friendly and attentive, though experiences can vary with wait times and a few notes about cross contamination concerns from non-seafood diners. The restaurant remains a popular choice for a celebratory Peruvian meal with bold flavors, generous servings, and a welcoming atmosphere in Montreal.
Un classique des restaurants péruviens. Le ceviche & la jalea sont toujours aussi bons, mais les portions ont diminué tandis que les prix ont augmenté. Idéal pour les groupes.
I'm editing my review. After coming back a couple of times, I've noticed several improvements. The quality of the plates has improved, especially the ones based on seafood. Ceviche is always good & Pisco Sour is the best I've tried in a very long time. Propably the most common plates are not so good (I don't like Jalea or Lomo Saltado here) but other plates are delicious (like Chupe, Pariguela). The desserts have also improved, I recommend the picarones. The prices are still a little high, but they're similar to other Peruvian restaurants in Montreal.
Institution peruvienne à Montréal, ce resto est très bon ,moules à la chalaca, jalea, ceviche, lomo saltado , picarones , vins pas cher, bières aussi , ambiance latine , le service d alex impeccable...
Very good food, got the ceviche solymar & t-bone. We were both super full & satisfied. We had to wait a bit, but the waiter was nice & attentive. Atmosphere was good, quiet, we could talk & enjoy our meal.
This is my'go to' place. It's not downtown Montreal, but the trip to the east end is well worth it. Authentic Peruvian cuisine, great atmosphere, & live music on some nights. Ate there dozens of times over the years, success every time. Make sure to hold back the spicy'rocoto' when ordering ceviche, unless you know what to expect!
This place is phenomenal, simply delicious & full of flavours! A weekly go-to as takeaway, a mix of the seafood rice, the fried seafood platter, ceviche, & then we try a newer dish as well. The sauces are also delicious, always a treat to order from this place.

Went here as a small group for our restaurant of the month club & overall give it a 3/5. They called me THREE minutes before our reservation to ask if we could come AN HOUR later. Obviously people were almost there, they finally offered 7:30 instead. There was nowhere to wait other than outside in the cold. The table was ready a few minutes before that & unfortunately we were seated right next to the door so the cold air came in every time someone opened the door & twice we went to fix the mat in the entrance that would block the door & leave it open causing cold air to be blowing in. Only digital menus, but the menu is not optimized for mobile use so it was kind of a pain. Wine was well priced, cocktails were tasty, our waiter did not seem to know that you should allow the person to taste the wine before serving it to everyone. The ceviche was especially interesting with large chunks of fish, the ribeye was served in a container with lit charcoal & the flavour was unique & delicious. The chicken was moist, the shrimp dish was delicious & overall we enjoyed the food, portions were quite large. The service was just ok, they need more staff I think. Water glasses were left empty for awhile, we received our desserts & had to wait at least 10 minutes for the birthday song, as we were celebrating a birthday, so we could eat them. Not sure if I would return, but it was worth going to to try.

Delicious! The ceviche was fresh & tasty with big chunks of fish. The jalea was huge! Definitely a plate to share. The service was ok, a little slow but still good. Good place for families & groups.
The food was too expensive. We took ceviche, fried seafood, two beers & the bill was 100$! The food was okay, but for the price not worth it. Ceviche fish, the fried seafood didn't seem freshly made! The quantity was generous, but I wouldn't pay this much for food not feeling good enough. On top, we had to wait for like 30 minutes when it wasn't even busy.
WOW! Was this just an off day ? This is not the same Peruvian cuisine that we loved so much. Sorry to say, but the magic is gone. My medium rare Rib steak had some OK areas, but most was tough & over-cooked! Wife's Mussels were so small, that actually there was nothing to eat! The $21 ceviche (we thought it was as an appetizer) was actually a cup of "Tiger's milk" with a few pieces of fish. Very disappointed to pay $100 for this & walk away still hungry. Not recommended !
