Solymar Restaurant is widely recognized for offering authentic Peruvian cuisine in Montreal, featuring a broad menu with standout dishes like ceviche, lomo saltado, and various causa samplers. Many guests appreciate the generous portion sizes, flavorful preparations, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere that often includes Latin music. While experiences with service are generally described as attentive and professional, some visitors have noted occasional wait times during busy periods or inconsistencies in food quality. The restaurant remains a popular choice for both small gatherings and large groups, with many patrons returning frequently for the consistent taste of Peru and the overall hospitable dining environment.
It was great place to eat ceviche, it reminds us of great food that we missed form back home. We had not found a place we're we could & this food that was authentic.
If you're looking for authentic Peruvian cuisine in Montreal, Solymar Restaurant is well worth the visit.
The causas are a must-try. My favorites were the Octopus Causa with an olive sauce & the Causa Acevichada, . If it's your first visit, order the three-causa sampler, it's the perfect way to discover this classic Peruvian dish.
The ceviches are also outstanding. The salmon ceviche was incredibly fresh & paired perfectly with an imported Peruvian beer.
Located in the heart of La Alameda Peruana (Montreal's'Little Peru'), this restaurant is just one block from the busy Saint-Hubert shopping district & metro station, making it easy to find street parking before continuing toward the Jean-Talon Market area.
From the outside, the restaurant is fairly modest, but don't let that fool you. Inside you'll find a surprisingly spacious dining room, an impressive wine selection, & an extensive Peruvian menu with enough variety to keep you coming back to try something new.
A fantastic spot for anyone wanting an authentic taste of Peru in Montreal. Highly recommended!
I've tried the best ceviche in Peru & this was just as good.
On the other hand, the'Jalea Solymar' dish was a bit of disappointment. Underneath the fried calamari, there's a huge amount of another type of fish that's noticeably bland.
At the very bottom there's also fried Yuca which was cold & extremely dry. Not even a generous amount of salt could save it.
Otherwise, the service was excellent & I could see that many Peruvian locals trust this place for authentic food.
This is hands down the best Peruvian food I've found in Montreal. From start to finish, the service was top-notch, the staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, & attentive. Every dish was exquisite, bursting with authentic flavors & served in very generous portions. A must-visit for anyone craving high-quality Peruvian cuisine!
An amazing Peruvian restaurant that truly delivers on flavor! The lomo saltado was absolutely outstanding, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, & easily one of the best I've had. Having recently traveled to Peru, I can say the authenticity here really shines through in the dishes.
The ceviche was slightly on the fishy side for my taste, but everything else was spot on. From the quality of the food to the overall experience, it was fantastic. Definitely a place I'd highly recommend if you're craving authentic Peruvian cuisine!
This is my'go to' place. It's not downtown Montreal, but the trip to the east end is well worth it. Authentic Peruvian cuisine, great atmosphere, & live music on some nights. Ate there dozens of times over the years, success every time. Make sure to hold back the spicy'rocoto' when ordering ceviche, unless you know what to expect!
"With the many Peruvian restaurants in Montreal, this one has room to improve. While portion sizes were generous & the space was clean, the flavors fell short of expectations. With a bit more attention to authenticity & taste, this place could really shine among Montreal's Peruvian dining options."
