Loyal to the authenticity. Best Japanese food I've had in mtl this year. Big fan of their new location too!!
The food was just okay, which was already a bit disappointing. However, what really brought my rating down to 2 stars was the service. It didn't feel welcoming, & everything was extremely slow. Our drinks didn't even arrive at the same time-one of them came 30 minutes later.
We also ordered a soup & a combo that included a soup, but they couldn't serve them together, which made the experience even more frustrating. For the price, I expected much better. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return.
The food is stunning. Everything was on point. Probably the best Japanese food I had in Montreal.
As someone who has passionately eaten my way through nearly every high-end restaurant in Montreal, I walked in anticipating excellence. We were ushered here as a hopeful silver lining after finding our first choice, Vin Mon Lapin, completely booked.
I'll concede this: the atmosphere is electric. The room is beautifully designed, buzzing with a chic energy, & the cocktail list is inventive & impeccably executed. We were seduced by the vibe, so we ordered... well, almost everything, eager for the food to match the room's promise.
But a stunning room cannot mask a culinary failure.
As the plates arrived, the initial excitement curdled into disbelief. The menu, for all its posturing, boiled down to one thing: fish on rice. & the fish? It lacked the bright, briny spark of the sea. It was cold & tired. It was dull. It was a profound disappointment, bite after lifeless bite. Even the Wagyu was stringy, thready & chewy instead of melting in our mouths.
The drinks & the decor are a siren's call, luring you toward a meal that simply doesn't deliver. When the bill arrives, the gap between the price & the quality you receive feels cavernous.
My advice? If it's exquisite sushi you're after, Yubari delivers ten times the quality for the price. If you're seeking true culinary innovation that will actually thrill your palate, Ile Flottante remains in a league of its own. This place, sadly, was all sizzle & no steak.
Excellent, authentic Japanese meal consisting mainly of fresh fish over rice & very tasty side dishes. Bonus points for offering amazing value & being unpretentious. Service was a bit forgetful but it's balanced out by the fact that dishes come out FAST.
