Review Summary

Nozy is praised as an authentic Japanese spot in Montreal with exceptionally fresh sashimi, standout uni, perfectly cooked unagi, and well balanced chirashi and dons, all served in a warm, intimate, unpretentious setting that many reviewers compare to dining in Japan. The kitchen is noted for strong technique and thoughtful preparation, with high quality ingredients and good value for the price, and the ambience is described as chic yet relaxed. A few visits mention slower or inattentive service, occasional miscommunication about omakase or uni availability, and certain dishes that don’t meet expectations, but the consensus remains that Nozy is among the best Japanese options in Montreal and well worth a visit, albeit with some variability from visit to visit.

Excellent, authentic Japanese meal consisting mainly of fresh fish over rice & very tasty side dishes. Bonus points for offering amazing value & being unpretentious. Service was a bit forgetful but it's balanced out by the fact that dishes come out FAST.

We ordered 3 appetizers & 2 mains. The waitress brought everything at the same time. There wasn't much thought to customer experience or trying to give a good experience. When the waitress would bring out the dishes, she didn't explain what they were. She just placed them in front of us.

The sashimi was awful as it came on a bed of warm rice. You couldn't take the freshness of the fish.

The waitress was very inattentive as well. We ordered 3 appetizers & she brought out 4. When I asked her what the fourth thing was (as we didn't order it), she pushed back saying'I remember perfectly that you ordered this' & didn't brother telling us what it was.

Overall, we left feeling disappointed & won't be retuning.

Went there recently for the omakase & enjoyed it. Sea urchin, tataki, & sashimi so fresh! Not a fan of the oyster that day though. I wish there had been a few more pieces of sashimi/tataki/sushi, didn't drink all the 3 types of sake. COD in miso tastes just the right amount of sweetness & flaky & tenderness. Beef tenderloin is pretty delicious too, the wasabi adds a special taste. Never a fan of curry but loved the curry & the texture of rice is just so right. The mochi dessert is really amazing, orange wrapped in mochi & a thin layer of sweet beans paste, such a refreshing/juicy complexe of flavour & texture!! Omakase is a fixed menu & everybody get same dishes, but it would be nice if possible to change/switch a little bit according to preference.

My sister & I recently dined here & thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The restaurant offers a quiet, dimly lit atmosphere that creates an intimate & sophisticated ambience perfect for an evening out.

We opted to share the'Chef's Choice' appetizer platter & the sashimi seafood platter. Every slice of fish was exceptionally fresh. Each appetizer showcased thoughtful preparation.

While the service was prompt & courteous, we would have appreciated if our waitress had taken the initiative to explain the various dishes as they arrived. Instead, we found ourselves having to ask for descriptions.

Despite this small drawback, our overall experience was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant for the exceptional quality of the food.

Tried their omakase. The dishes were fresh & great portions as well especially the amberjack with ponzu was 10/10. Only down part I would say the lighting of the place would be more cozy maybe add little candle on the table & the bathroom too

Cozy spot with authentic Japanese food. We ordered almost all the dishes & appetizers on the menu to share & it was really excellent. The okonomiyaki was the highlight.

Simple & quaint Japanese restaurant. Been here a couple of times. Dishes are fresh & tasty (you are paying for quality), sashimi is flavourful, service is friendly & courteous. Atmosphere is intimate & easygoing. Overall, a pleasant experience.

The restaurant is small & cozy. One of the few places where you can actually hear your dining companions. Reservations are a must. The service was excellent. She was helpful, knew the menu & attentive. This is not a sushi restaurant but serves fresh Japanese food. Everything on the menu looked appealing. We ordered more food than necessary but it was so good, we ate everything. The one thing that I would skip is the potato croquettes. They were good but felt out of place with the rest of the menu. Starters: the beef tataki sauce was good; the beef was a bit chewy. The flavor of the yakatori was really good. The five pc omakase starter is very worth the $20. So good! The Karaage chicken was perfectly fried. Mains: The Take Kago is really good if you wanted a bit of everything. It was well explained & nicely presented. The Unagi Don was delicious, the eel very well prepared. The seafood platter was fresh. The oysters were delightful. Note: some dishes from the Omakase starter were also in the Take Kago. Maybe ask what is in each before ordering if you want a bit more variety. We all had beverages (non achohlic) & they were refreshing. Perfect for a hot summer. Desserts. Oh my. We ordered an assortment & it was all wonderful. My favorite was the yuzu sorbet.

I recently tried the Omakase experience, & while it introduced me to new flavors, overall, it was just okay-nothing particularly special. Despite tasting some unique dishes, the bill was surprisingly over $200, which felt excessive. While the food was good, it didn't quite justify the high price tag. The restaurant itself is quite small, accommodating only a few customers at a time, so it's not ideal for group outings but more suited for intimate dates. On the positive side, the chef was very friendly, & I appreciate supporting local restaurants.

Second time at Nozy & I asked myself why I didn't go more often. The fish was fresh & delicious. The Yuzu ceviche was also mouth watering! The Kaisen Don is a classic. Having different types of seafood is always amazing 🤩 We also took the entree with 5 dishes from the chef. Must try!

Ordered the chirashi bowl for two. Everything was fresh & relish. Totoro tummy, uni, eels, salmon & the rice was all so flavourful! ---- Update 10/2023 I did not go back to that restaurant since the pandemic. Decided to try their Omakase that they serve during the weekend. The ingredients were amazingly fresh & I would definitely recommend to go for their all you can drink menu as well. Pricing was a bit expensive but worth the experience. If you're craving for some fresh Japanese seafood dishes, it is definitely worth going.

The fish is very fresh & melt in your mouth! Excellent quality for a very decent price point, with a great selection including urchin & fatty tuna. Simple but very beautiful presentation of the dishes, the take kago comes in a cute woven basket with a chef's selection of different appetizers to try, & serves as a meal. Their karaage is also one of my favourites in Montreal!
