Nozy is a truly unique experience in Montreal & one of the rare places where you can eat genuinely authentic Japanese cuisine. In a city where real Japanese food is surprisingly hard to find, Nozy really stands apart.
I was a big fan of the original restaurant, & the new venue fully lives up to its reputation. The cooking feels confident & thoughtful, with a clear respect for Japanese culinary traditions. Nothing feels overdone or designed to impress for the sake of it. The focus is clearly on quality, technique, & balance.
The uni is outstanding, fresh & creamy with a clean, delicate flavor. The sashimi is beautifully cut & impeccably fresh, letting the fish speak for itself. The unagi is perfectly cooked, tender & rich, with just the right amount of glaze. The chirashi is another highlight, generous & well balanced, with every element placed with care.
What really makes Nozy special is the delicacy of the food. The flavors are subtle & precise, never heavy, & everything feels intentional. It is the kind of meal you slow down for & really appreciate.
If you care about Japanese cuisine & authenticity, Nozy is an absolute must in Montreal.
When you want sashimi/sushi in Montreal, you only have 3 choices: take out counters, uber expensive omakase or those all you can eat places of dubious quality. So a place like Nozy is pretty rare, as it's good quality at affordable prices, served without pretentiousness in a simple, family style environment.
We had the mixed appetizer plate & sashimi plate. Everything was excellent. Good cocktails too.
Service was friendly, if a bit slow.
It's unfortunate that they are moving to another neighborhood...
Unpretentious Japanese eatery with fresh sashimi & typical bites (okonomyiaki, karage etc). The cocktais were very good, especially the Nigori-Yuzu Sour. Definitely recommend for a relaxed & delicious outing.
We ordered 3 appetizers & 2 mains. The waitress brought everything at the same time. There wasn't much thought to customer experience or trying to give a good experience. When the waitress would bring out the dishes, she didn't explain what they were. She just placed them in front of us.
The sashimi was awful as it came on a bed of warm rice. You couldn't take the freshness of the fish.
The waitress was very inattentive as well. We ordered 3 appetizers & she brought out 4. When I asked her what the fourth thing was (as we didn't order it), she pushed back saying'I remember perfectly that you ordered this' & didn't brother telling us what it was.
Overall, we left feeling disappointed & won't be retuning.
Went there recently for the omakase & enjoyed it. Sea urchin, tataki, & sashimi so fresh! Not a fan of the oyster that day though. I wish there had been a few more pieces of sashimi/tataki/sushi, didn't drink all the 3 types of sake. COD in miso tastes just the right amount of sweetness & flaky & tenderness. Beef tenderloin is pretty delicious too, the wasabi adds a special taste. Never a fan of curry but loved the curry & the texture of rice is just so right. The mochi dessert is really amazing, orange wrapped in mochi & a thin layer of sweet beans paste, such a refreshing/juicy complexe of flavour & texture!! Omakase is a fixed menu & everybody get same dishes, but it would be nice if possible to change/switch a little bit according to preference.
Okonomiyaki wasn't great, & was included with most of our mains (chef's choice), something that should have been mentioned when we ordered it as a separate appetizer. Service was alright, but I didn't find it specifically accommodating either. Miso soup was nice. Fried foods were tasty. Eggplant was delicious. Sashimi on rice was okay, saved a little by the shallots & crispy bits. Orange wine was good.
My sister & I recently dined here & thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The restaurant offers a quiet, dimly lit atmosphere that creates an intimate & sophisticated ambience perfect for an evening out.
We opted to share the'Chef's Choice' appetizer platter & the sashimi seafood platter. Every slice of fish was exceptionally fresh. Each appetizer showcased thoughtful preparation.
While the service was prompt & courteous, we would have appreciated if our waitress had taken the initiative to explain the various dishes as they arrived. Instead, we found ourselves having to ask for descriptions.
Despite this small drawback, our overall experience was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant for the exceptional quality of the food.
Perfect place to go if you are craving for an uni-don.
Went there for few time, never disappointed.
Everything tastes so delicious & their sashimi are always fresh!
Incorrect restaurant holiday hours. Everything else is great, we always love coming here. Fresh sashimi & excellent platters
The food was mediocre, sashimi was good but chicken curry just tasted like ordinary S&B box curry & udon carbonara had almost no flavor & was soupy
Small & cozy place to enjoy tasty Japanese dishes. The sashimi is a must!
Belle découverte, ça va faire partie de ma rotation de restaurant japonais 100%! J'ai pris le bol sashimi chu-toro & la qualité du poisson était au rendez-vous! Mes amies ont adoré!
Simple & quaint Japanese restaurant. Been here a couple of times. Dishes are fresh & tasty (you are paying for quality), sashimi is flavourful, service is friendly & courteous. Atmosphere is intimate & easygoing. Overall, a pleasant experience.
I finally tried the omakase menu. It was very extensive with a lot of different flavours. Maybe too many flavours for one evening. It was good but not extraordinary. The service for the omakase is long, about 2h. The 13-dish menu comes with unlimited sake (Masumi Shiro white, Yukiotoko Junmai, Ippaku Suisei tokubetsu junmai, Dewa no Yuki kimoto junmai). It was a good experience; however, I prefer choosing from their regular menu what I like to eat. I have been here many times for dinner & really like their sashimi. I recommend this restaurant but you can skip the omakase. This place is small & can get really busy so I recommend reserving ahead.
Price of a Michelin, quality of a gas station. Sashimi was fishy (in the bad way). One piece of tuna had a long vein attached & the blood was utterly disgusting. Not to mention other annoying details like sticky bowls, hot rice (), cheap sweet sauce, etc. Okay, I've had both high-end omakase & grocery store sushi, & Nozy's food definitely sits on the lower end of the spectrum. I can only say that I'm glad that I did not have the omakase here, because it's ridiculous that a place like this dare to offer people omakase. Maybe they hire chefs from other places just to survive their Saturday nights, haha. I rarely leave reviews because most places have ratings that are justified, or at least informative, in one way or another. But the reviews for this place are very misleading. In summary, if you're a sashimi fan, avoid this place.
I recently dined at Nozy restaurant & had their fresh lobster & sashimi. Lobster was perfectly cooked, tender, & flavorful, with a natural sweetness. The presentation was elegant, & the service was excellent. The sashimi is so fresh & tasty. I highly recommend Nozy for an outstanding lobster experience. Truly a seafood lover's delight!
Absolutely loved my experience here. One of the best place I've been for Sashimi. Cut were super fresh, service was quick, food was amazing. Can't wait to come back
