I love everything about this place minus the wait time. Delicious food & really cool atmosphere. We waited an hour on a Sunday to be seated. Def go during the weekday for a shorter wait period. Would recommend the steak & eggs Benedict along with their Dubai stuffed French toast!
That place was my favorite in the past! Recently I had really bad experience, went ordered shakshoka. It has nothing to do with it. Bath of tomato soup with 2 poached eggs! Disgusting, any restaurant they ask about if you're food is good, right? Wrong! The guy answer, have you eaten it before here, that's how it's done! Ok sir! He then offered to add eggs to it to make more like a real shakshoka rather than the tomato bath! So reluctantly said yes! The surprise to me he charged me for the extra eggs! Wow, so he tried to make it right on my expense. Absolute disgusting service! I will never go there again.

Last Sunday me & my wife went to this restaurant, what an experience, it's so tight that it's hard to sit & eat . I ordered classic eggs with sausage & extra order of cretton . My sausage was not cooked at all & I had to leave it & my bread was over cooked. I went to bathroom what an experience. It's so dark & horrible . I don't think we will ever go back to this restaurant again but definitely will go to on Notre-Dame street one day. I don't recommend this place at all .
Over all we were well served for that reason i left 20% tips.
Simply superb everything. Great location. Nice comfy seating outdoors & inside. Great fast service with a smile. Now for the food. WOW,WOW,WOW. Free range eggs made to perfection, home fries made for real & crispy. REAL maple syrup in a bottle. Perfectly fresh crispy bacon. The bagle was simply devine from the best bakery ever. Sadly I had no more stomac space to get to the bluebery pankakes. Will eat those devine beasts tomorrow. Even the pistashio late was so good. Those giant meals are more than enough for two people to share even if they come crazy hungry. Yes very expensive breakfest but not really if you are sharing. I will be back for sure. Adding this place to my top 10 montreal must try restorant list. My daugher has to try this place. Thank you. I was early but the place filled up so fast by 9am you had no outside spaces left.
I'm officially retiring L'Avenue as one of my brunch spots.
Maybe I'm just unlucky, because I see that others recent reviews are really good but after my last few visits, & especially after yesterday, I just can't justify eating there anymore.
We were seated fairly quickly, but after that we waited quite a while before anyone came to take our order. I ordered a cappuccino along with our meals.
While we were waiting for our drinks, I watched plate after plate of food sitting on the pass. Waiters & waitresses would walk up, look at the food, then walk away without taking it to the tables.
That was my first indication that I'd made a mistake by coming back to L'Avenue.
Watching perfectly good food sit on the pass getting cold while staff walked by it over & over again was incredibly frustrating.
My cappuccino was honestly one of the worst I've had in a long time. It tasted like a regular coffee with milk with a pile of airy foam on top. No richness or texture.
Then came the food.
I ordered the'I'll Have It All.'
The first thing I noticed was the bagel. During a previous visit to L'Avenue, I was given rock-hard butter for my baguette, which is such a basic mistake because everyone knows you can't spread fridge-cold butter on toast. So this time I specifically asked for room-temperature butter. Instead, they buttered my toast for me... sort of.
As you can see in the photo, only half the bagel has any butter on it. It sounds like a small thing, but brunch is made up of simple foods that are not difficult to make. But the difference between an average brunch & a great brunch is in the details, & those details were missing at L'Avenue yesterday.
Then there were the'scrambled' eggs.
It looked like someone poured beaten eggs onto the grill & forgot about them. They were dry, rubbery & badly overcooked.
The breakfast also included one pancake & one French toast, & the French toast was just as disappointing. It looked deceivingly delicious. Perfectly golden on the outside but in the middle it was still basically just a dry piece of bread (a sign that the bread was not thoroughly soaked with the French toast batter).
The meat was also dry & didn't seem fresh at all. I didn't eat most of it.
In the end, the bill came to around $90 for two people.
I happily spend that on brunch when the experience justifies it. But charging $90 for cold food, a poorly made cappuccino, a half-buttered bagel, dry overcooked eggs, dry meat & slow, disorganized service simply doesn't make sense.
After my last three experiences at L'Avenue, I'm done. The only reason I've given multiple chances is because they used to be very good.
But there are simply too many great brunch spots in Montreal to keep hoping this place improves.
Aaaaabsolutely incredible food- large portions for a decent price, different breakfast than your typical'eggs & toast'. Really, really enjoyed the food & the atmosphere- the outside seating is lovely. The ONLY downside is there is usually a wait, & the service can be slow (even though our waiter was absolutely wonderful!) it's a busy place- so if you have 2 hours or so I'd say do it. If you're looking for a'quick bite' I'd pass!
A very busy place on weekens for brunch, about half & hour waiting. After that the service was great & the food was tasty & hot (mushroom egg Benedict 🤩), a few gluten free options which is always nice for celiac folks !
The eggs benedict were some of the best I've ever had, have to go back again. Did take quite a while to get our order though, so not sure if that's typical but it was annoying.
The french toast is absolutely the best french toast I've ever had anywhere on this planet, & thats not even an exaggeration. After an hour wait on the sidewalk in line, we finally made it inside a pretty cramped space to what was definitely worth the wait & loss of personal space. I got the pistachio french toast, & my friends got the steak & eggs/bacon & eggs meals. Everyone raved about their meal for the next couple of days, & left feeling full & satisfied.
Would def come back again when in the Montreal area again.
