Many guests highlight the high quality and thoughtful preparation of dishes like the signature mackerel, foie gras stuffed dates, and knish with caviar, often noting the staff’s friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable service as a major component of the experience.

What an absolute gem of a restaurant. We sat at the bar & had a great view of all the action (cocktails & food). Loved the food. Best flan I ever had in my life!

what an incredible restaurant. I had to go here twice in a row when I was in Montreal. It was that good. It blows my mind they don;t have a Michelin star yet. They were on point on every single aspect: service was incredible & attentive, the cocktails were outstanding, the bartendress was also very open to making spontaneous cocktails & she did a phenomenal job. The food on both days were incredible: this restaurant was definitely the highlight of my Montreal trip. The neighborhood itself is meh, but the restaurant is a gem, it could easily mop the floor with Michelin star restaurants in NY for example. I did make reservations on both days & it is highly recommended. The restaurant is small & fills up quickly. On the second day I did the chef's tasting menu & it was wonderfully assembled.

I ate at Beba a few weeks ago while visiting Montreal. I'd set an alert since reservations are hard to get, so we were thrilled when a 6:30 opened up the day of & rearranged our plans to get out to Verdun.
If I were only rating the kitchen, this is an easy five stars. The food is outstanding, the knish maybe a touch over-seasoned, but it's clear why this place has the reputation it does.
Where it fell short was the service, specifically the pacing. I eat at places like this a lot & I get how it works. Margins are thin, they need to turn tables. That's exactly why we showed up on time, ordered right away, didn't sit through a bunch of cocktails, & ate at a normal pace.
When we ordered, our server asked if that would be enough food. We said we thought so, we'd gotten several appetizers, two mains, wine, & knew dessert was coming. He said if we were still hungry later we could always add more. We were pleasantly surprised, since it's usually one & done at places like this.
Then, after our last course, before asking whether we were full or wanted anything, he set the menu down & said if we wanted more we could only order things that weren't fired. & stood there. I said no, we're good. He asked if we were having dessert. We said yes & ordered it, & the check arrived with it.
If we'd been overstaying, that would be fair. I've had servers handle it warmly: sorry, we have a table waiting, please enjoy dessert but we'll need it after. This wasn't that. The check just landed, & he stood over my husband, silently, until I said I supposed it was time to pay. As he left, I heard him tell the couple waiting for our table that he'd been watching us & we were on our last bites.
I get wanting to reassure the next table. I didn't appreciate being made the scapegoat. We did our part. If plates came out too slowly & the table needed turning, that's a floor problem, & there's a gracious way to handle it. This wasn't it.
I debated writing this, because I know how slim the margins are. But I was so excited to come here & walked out with a nearly thousand-dollar check & a sour experience. I wouldn't want that for anyone else.

Loved it. Service was incredible.

Did the tasting menu with wine pairings.

Standouts were the knish, smoked mackerel, pasta with mushroom ragu, & a ridiculous fois gras filled date.

Cocktails were excellent.

Can't wait to go back again.

Delicious food & amazing service. Reservations highly recommended as they are extremely busy & popular.

The Montadito was probably my favourite dish & the cocktail was absolutely amazing (vermouth & olives). My server/bartender was on top of everything despite how busy he was. The rest of the staff are also extremely attentive, clearing plates immediately, refilling water, wiping down the table, etc.

It was only me at the bar & I was given the option to have half portions while also having more room to try other dishes. I decided to order everything full size, no regrets, but for my next visit I'll definitely take that route. There were so many other dishes I wanted to try after watching the other guests eat!

Overall I highly recommend this restaurant. If you are in Montreal this is a must try. I will definitely be back!!

I enjoy a food adventure & that's why I like to try different restos.
Unfortunately this didn't make it for me.
We started with the Knish with caviar . A knish is a mashed potatoes & onions wrapped in pastry. It was one very small bite & it was topped with a very bland caviar…not the good stuff…very overrated & overpriced…$39.
Next we ordered the mackerel. It was 2 small slices on a very little sesame bread with fresh horseradish & a big blob of butter. Way too much butter.
Then we had the Rabbit, which was very tender, & mildly flavoured.

We didn't really care for the cocktails or the wine so this place didn't hit its marks for us.
