We went for Valentine's Day with a couple friends, excited to dress up, treat ourselves, & try a restaurant we had heard great things about. Unfortunately, we left pretty disappointed.
From the moment we walked in, there was a clear lack of care for the space & overall experience. Two out of three waiters were wearing jeans, which immediately set a casual tone that didn't match a Valentine's evening out. The restaurant was freezing cold, with an old heater clanking loudly but doing very little to actually warm the place.
The decor was almost nonexistent. The space felt more like a bare house than a restaurant with any charm or atmosphere. Even the bathroom reflected this lack of attention, with cupboards that were crooked, chipped, & falling apart. It all gave the impression that very little care or maintenance goes into the environment.
The food was good, but not excellent. Given the reputation of the place & the expectations we had going in, we were hoping for something memorable. Instead, it was simply fine.
All in all, we left full, thankfully, & managed to laugh & make the most of the evening with our friends. But overall, it was disappointing, & unfortunately not somewhere we'll be returning to.
amazing food, great service, in an nondescript street of plateau. loved it. great experience especially since its byow & prices are reasonable. i'll be back again & again!
Très surpris. Je n'y étais pas allé depuis 12 ans. Excellent repas.
The food is very good considering the prices & the good portion sizes. Overall it's a very good value in addition to bringing your own wine. The service is great as well.
Went to Le Pegase with a friend. We had the soup (4 star), croquette de boudin (4 star) & escargots with blue cheese (5 star), the lamb (4 star) & bison (4 star), the creme brulee (5 star) & the pavlova (4.5 star). But I forgot my 2001 valdicava brunello in the wine cooler; it went down to 11 C & lost its greatness.
Wow. Where to begin? The food was sublime. The value for money unmatched. The service so warm & homey. Love the decor of this place too, so minimal, making the food & the socializing the star of the show.
It was quite loud, which at first, turned me off a little, but then it just felt like it was all one big happy party. I wish I lived here so I could come back & try all the stuff on the menu I didn't try. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town.
Although the space is small, the atmosphere feels very cozy & welcoming.
Bread is served with butter & pâté, which instantly wakes up your palate. I especially loved the appetizer - braised beef & goat cheese profiteroles. The sauce is rich but not heavy at all, & the light, tangy red sauce on the side balances it beautifully.
For the main course, I had the shrimp pasta. It's tomato-based & looks quite simple at first, but the flavors are surprisingly rich with plenty of ingredients. Every bite was satisfying.
Dessert was apple pie with ice cream. The apple pie is sweet with a pleasant acidity & a strong cinnamon aroma, which pairs very well with the ice cream. The only small wish is that the ice cream portion could be a bit bigger.
Amazing place, the staff is genuinely friendly & accommodating & the food is fantastic.
It was our second time here & my partner & I both love this place. So small & intimate. I love that you can bring your own wine! The food comes out quickly & service felt very personal. The only thing is that we wish the menu changed more! There were a lot of similarities to when we went last valentines.
Le Pegase is our favorite French restaurant in Montreal for ever visit. cozy, intimate, & the perfect place to enjoy an authentic French dining experience.
My husband & I visited at least 3 times during our 3.5 months living in MTL :) Unpretentious, chill, ambient, affordable but with excellent quality of food. They won't rush you like most of the resto by having a dinning time limit, & you can bring your own wine!
I never really went to french bistro after I came back to Vancouver ;( Miss this place so much 🍷
Fabulous fabulous fabulous. Made a reservation for 2 & brought our own wine (no fee for corkage, be sure to bring your own though bc they don't sell wine). It's a set menu so you get ~4 courses included & the prices range from $55-67. They were out of the soup for starter so we had to pick salad, it was fine. The salmon tartare was amazing but the beef profiteroles were meh. For our main plates we got the lamb chops & bison steak - both a 10/10, amazing. The crème brûlée was to DIE for. I would eat that as my death row meal. The chocolate death thing was also good. Ended up spending ~$167 with tax & tip for the two of us. Worth it for this succulent meal.
Un de mes restaurants préféré & il est AVV en prime! Nous ne sommes jamais déçu par la qualité de la nourriture & les portions. Je recommande sans hésiter!
Large portion at a reasonable price! Foie gras in their appetizers is a must-have!
Really recommend the lamb cause it's so juicy & tender. We are also impressed with the duck breast & it comes with very good cheese.
However, the desserts are too sweet for us….my bad
