About

Nouilles de Lan Zhou specializes in the traditional art of hand-pulled wheat noodles crafted fresh to order. The process begins with skilled technicians stretching dough into various thicknesses, ranging from thin vermicelli to wide ribbons, which serve as the foundation for every bowl. These noodles are immersed in a clear, slow-simmered beef broth infused with aromatic spices and served with tender slices of braised meat. Additional toppings such as fresh cilantro, scallions, and house-made chili oil provide a sharp, vibrant contrast to the savory foundation. Patrons observe the rhythmic preparation of the dough from an open kitchen workspace that emphasizes transparency and culinary technique. The menu focuses exclusively on these authentic soup preparations, ensuring a consistent focus on texture and depth of flavor in every serving.

Review Summary

Nouilles de Lan Zhou is widely celebrated as a go-to destination in Montreal's Chinatown for authentic, fresh, and hand-pulled noodles. Visitors frequently highlight the impressive skill of the chefs preparing noodles to order, which serves as a central draw for the dining experience. The portions are consistently described as generous and excellent value, with many patrons appreciating the ability to customize noodle thickness. While the atmosphere is often noted as busy, cramped, and occasionally warm due to the lack of air conditioning, the rapid service and high-quality, comforting bowls of soup keep diners returning. Despite varying opinions on the depth of the broth, the overall consensus is that the restaurant offers a satisfying, straightforward, and memorable meal that is well worth the wait in line.

The noodles here slap. Literally, you can see them stretching & slapping the hand pulled noodles through the window. I like the Lanzhou Beef Noodles spicy version. I think the broth could be better, it tastes a bit flat. But overall, it's good value to eat in & have a bowl of noodles, especially as the weather gets colder.

The noodles here are good, I've had it many times in the past. When I got to the restaurant today, I politely asked if there was room for two as I did not see there were already a few people lining up at a wall. The waiter was extremely rude. He pointed at the line & yelled: « LINE UP!!! ». No greetings, no smile, just pure command. That was not necessary, he should treat customers with more respect. I left promptly.

Décevant pour le prix. Peu de goût.

Finally tried this place after passing by a few times. I went there during a very cold Monday night & there was no lines & I got seated right away.
The beef noodle dish was good similar to the Vietnamese bun bo hue, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get in line to try it.

This place always hits. The menu is very limited, but everything they offer is out of this world. Prices are very reasonable too, especially for the portion size. A combo of main + 2 sides will set you back $20-$25 & you'll eat very well. Highly recommend. The only issue I have with the place is how small it is. There's always a lineup & there's very little room to wait inside. It's just proof of the resto's success though.

As a chinese, my standards might be a tad bit high, so I did not find the food particularly amazing, as the broth was a little lackluster in taste & the texture of the noodles were tough & uneven for my liking.

But by Montreal's standards of chinese food, this place is definitely worth the visit. The portion sizes are very generous, especially since we chose the largest possible option. The atmosphere was unique & interesting, the decorations felt quite authentic. It was also fun to watch the noodle chefs stretch the dough & cook the noodled by the entrance.

I had beef noodles in Lanzhou, the taste here is 80% similar with Lanzhou local beef noodles. But it was good, especially in Montreal.

Mon restaurant préféré depuis que j'ai 7ans. C'est un confort manger la bas sa fait du bien. Toujours une fil d'attendu l'extérieur mais sa avance asser vite & quand tu sais a quel point c'est bon, l'attente vaut le coup.
