Vibes are cool, servers were helpful & attentive. We had the spicy chicken karaage, tan tan ramen & truffle miso ramen. Everything was fantastic. Some of the best ramen we've had!View more
First time here.I tried the spicy mazemen. It was very good but hella spicy(for me) but still a very good choice. Great atmosphere & fast service too.View more
I come to this restaurant almost every month (wish I could go more often) just for the delicious Mazesoba. It has a unique flavor: fresh, with a spicy kick.
Highly recommend bringing a mint or some gum for afterward! 😂View more
Unique atmosphere, super-friendly service & memorable food. I highly recommend the'Neotokyo Extra' mazesoba for an umami experience that blew me away. & the cucumber salad is a perfect light appetizer. Portions are large, so bring your appetite. UPDATED visited again on 3.29.2025 & it's amazing again. Try the special menu EXTRA SPICY mazeman with lamb! MY NEW FAVORITE!View more
Fantastic cocktails, tasty ramen in a unique & atmosphere! Full menu available only as an Instagram highlight, which is a little frustrating. The Tres Spicy Mazemen special with the depth of mala spice (& a small glass of soy milk to reset!) is not for the spice-averse. Friendly service, but not the fastest; we weren't checked on/had water refilled between food arriving & finishing eating, & quite a gap after, as well. Understandable for a busy Saturday evening.View more
The reviews aren't wrong. This is an amazing restaurant. Really top quality. I'll start with the atmosphere (vibes), & they were amazing. I loved the decor; it really added to the whole experience. Great work. Our waitress was so sweet, gave us some recommendations, & kept bringing us water! Now for the food, it was super. I got the spicy dry ramen; keep in mind it's actually really spicy but super good, so I highly recommend it. We also got a side order of sweet & spicy fried chicken, which didn't disappoint. I'd highly suggest going here; you won't be disappointed. Kind of random, but they don't accept cash, so keep that in mind. Thanks for the experience. I'll be back.View more
The interior decoration is quite unique! I like the phone booth at the side! Food wise, soup broth is thick & can be salty for some people, but i feel it's flavourful. Chilli spice level is super low. When they say it's spicy, it's just peppery. So you can always request for the chilli power later. The dry noodles can be oily for some but I feel that's the correct texture. Add the rice that comes with it to level up the dry noodles experience! Give that a good mix & the rice will actually cling onto the noodles. Service wise, do be patient. The chefs are attentive & noticed the customers needs really fast. But the servers might require slightly more patience as they tend not to notice the customers.View more
Why does ramen have to be so expensive in Mtl?!?! Granted: Neo Tokyo offers a nice rich & creamy broth without seeing an oily film over the soup nor feeling bad oily feel in mouth. Great char siu too! & the egg is definitely one of the better ones I've had in Mtl. Good job. But why the heck so expensive in Mtl?!?! Also ordered the Très Spicy Mazemen with lamb. Très good taste & good amount of lamb. It comes with a glass of soy milk to manage the heat BUT...very disappointing heat. Anyone who loves peppers & respects the heat will know the Korean buldak instant noodles. If you use the whole pack of spicy seasonning for the buldak (& you like it that spicy because the truth is that all we need is heat) then the très spicy mazemen is like 1/8 of that heat...maybe 1/10. So go ahead, eat the mazemen & don't be afraid to take out your contact lenses from your eyes without washing your hands if you need to after finishing slurpping these noodely friendlies. & then there is the spicy karaage (or should we simply say tangy karaage...no real heat here again)...big pieces, good ratio protein & batter, well fried, smothered in yummy sauce yet still crispy BUT why costco dehydrated cranberries & pumpkin seeds (or are they pepitas). Weird garnish. Cheapens it. I would do without or find something better. Don't need that tartness or nuttyness. Otherwise, great cyber punk atmosphere. You'd think you're in a Blade Runner set. Kuddos! Beers are decently priced. Acceptable. Service is good but almost too present...We don't need the waiter to come back so often. Just been there once so not sure if that's how they wait or if the one waiter we had.View more
Having experienced this place at the start of our Montreal road trip, we returned on our last leg before heading home. We can report that the tonkotsu ramen was equally good the second time round. We also tried the very spicy lamb mazemen & although I could take the heat, certain spices just make my head sweat. Really tasty! The extra surprise this time was the fish cake which was a lovely starter.View more
Many moons ago, I came across Kinton Ramen in Chicago. I was looking forward to finding one in Montreal, but then I got distracted & came across this ramen-ya! Neo Tokyo had a little bit of that underground grunginess that you see in many Japanese manga/anime & sci-fi films. It transports you into that pseudo Matrix set. Our hostess (I think she is Meriem, at least that's what the bill said. Sorry, I should have asked;) was jokingly asking us if we want the French or English version of her services. Regretfully my français est très mal. So we went with English. The selection of appetizers were fantastic. Japanese fusion, they would not be out of place in any top Japanese restaurants: Spicy Karaage Nasu Agebidash Agedashi Tofu Kimchi Tsukemono You can really sense the various textures & depths of flavour. Then the main event: Tonkotsu! I have religiously tried many places from Japan, US, UK & it is a real skill to combine both the right noodles & the broth. Neo Tokyo hits that bulls eye on both counts. The firmness of the noddles & the richness of the broth were both exceptional! The creaminess is so smooth. Your inner noodle-self will thank you profusely!View more
The atmosphere was awesome. It felt like being in Tokyo. I ordered a spicy dish & they served it with a glass of milk just in case.View more
Perfect restaurant. Hits all criteria perfectly. Vibe, food, staff's friendliness, whatever criteria you set they will satisfy. Had spicy karaage, miso truffle, tonkotsu, chicken ramen, & the mazemen, & all of them were top tier. Highly HIGHLY recommendView more
I've been to Neotoyko three times so far & every single time the food is amazing & consistent. The atmosphere is so cool & different versus any other restaurant I've been too. I tried the Karage Spicy chicken it's a must as a starter, I've tried the TanTan (my favourite in my opinion with the broth), the mazesoba & the crème de bacon. The strawberry ice cream is amazing too!!! The wait on Friday night is so long I had to wait 1 hour & 30 min & I was told 40 but it was sooooo worth the wait. One last thing I would like to add I love the way they preserve the ambience they serve because when they bring you your food they bow to you & I find that so cool. I always see the runner/bus boy working so hard & running back & forth & I admire that as someone that works in a restaurant.View more
Friendly efficient service. Takoyaki wasn't bad. Spicy karaage was amazing; great texture & flavour. Tonkatsu ramen had delicious broth but the pork wasn't great. Generous portions. The bourbon & tamarin cocktail was pretty good.View more
Very cool looking place. It has that sci-fi Blade Runner feel. With a very simple menu, I highly suggest trying their ramen carbonara (crème de bacon) 👌. Their Tonkotsu is a mild broth that lacked a bit of saltiness imo , we preferred the more rich, dense, creamy & slightly spicy TanTan broth!View more
This was a fantastic find. The retro Tokyo vibes were super cool, from ceiling to the floor to the bathroom everything was on theme. The drinks were very good & the food delicious. We recommend the spicy karaage (which isn't much spicy, tasted like Korean fried chicken) & the tan tan ramen which had a lovely nutty taste.View more
The spicy chicken karaage was a highlight, the portions generous & delicious, overall a highlight of our visit.View more
Good food & very cool atmosphere. Spicy chicken & Octopus balls were very good. Gyoza was gyoza..View more
This place is downright awesome! Great food, great service. Neotokyo Extra Mazemen, sweet & spicy kaarage chicken & Hamachi crudo killed it. Coming back for sure!!View more
We went on a weekday & were glad that there was no line up outside as it was cold & snowy. The decor is absolutely stunning & so fun! The waiters were amazing, the service is so attentive & they go above & beyond to accommodate you. The appetizers are amazing & we recommend the karaage & the spicy karaage. As main, we ordered the mazemen, which was good, but I would have asked less nori for next time. The crème de bacon was very hearty but flavourful & a tad too heavy but we do have smaller appetites. The steak was good. The Tantan was my absolute fave, it was so flavourful & the broth was amazing. I would have taken it a little more spicier, but that is just me.View more
Neotokyo is one of the coolest restaurants in Montreal, they definitely nailed it with the decor/ theme, you're eating straight out of a Blade Runner movie scene! We shared a cucumber salad, fried chicken with aioli & some dumplings for starters. Everything we ordered was fresh & tasty & the portion size generous. The Tan Tan soup is recommended if you enjoy eating spicy, A must try is the "Cereal Milk Ice Cream" as dessert which will take you right back to your childhood memories. Our waitress was very friendly & attentive, same with the waiting staff, the service was fast & efficient. The restaurant is always busy (which is a great sign!) so be prepared to wait a little bit for a table.View more
The ramen is really good (not the best in the city, but above average for sure). We got there at 5:30 (right when it opens) & there was a line, but we got in right away. Get there at 5:30 if you don't want to wait. Service & atmosphere are great. Perfect for a date or fun & funky dinner. - the spicy chicken karaage was really good. It comes with pumpkin seeds & cranberries on top, which go really well. - I think the TanTan ramen is better than the TonkotsuView more
Come here for the cyberpunk vibes, not the food. The salmon mazemen is one of the worst noodle dishes I've ever tasted. There was nothing wrong with the salmon or ikura on their own, but the sauce they used was so fishy. The noodles were cold & on the firm side, so unless you REALLY love the taste of raw fish, the whole dish will taste like the stench of a fish market. The only redeeming dish was the spicy karaage. It was crispy & the spiciness level was just about right with a tinge of sweetness. However it was not good enough to forget about the unpleasantness of the mazemen. This place is usually busy too, so expect a long wait to get in & get your food.View more
