About

Nama Omakase focuses on the precision of Japanese culinary arts through a curated sequence of seasonal sushi preparations. The kitchen emphasizes the raw quality of maritime ingredients by utilizing traditional slicing techniques that highlight natural textures. Each presentation follows a deliberate flow, balancing vinegared rice with fresh seafood to ensure consistent flavor profiles across every portion. Creative compositions incorporate subtle seasonings that respect the original integrity of the fish without excessive masking. The environment centers on an open preparation counter that allows for clear observation of the technical skills required for authentic nigiri assembly. This establishment prioritizes the direct relationship between prepared portions and the raw material provided by global coastal sources. The result is a methodical approach to seafood consumption that adheres strictly to established minimalist traditions.

Loved it, the food, the chef, the host. Would definitely recommend & return. My only little comment is that the music was a bit too loud for our preferences. Other than that 10/10

We had the 12 course omakase for $98 & this was our first time having a'real' omakase experience in Montreal! Meaning that the chef actually made each course of nigiri in front of us & chatted with us the whole evening. Chef GaCong Ruan was super personable & friendly & not a single dish was a miss for us. You can tell that the chef & staff are just really passionate about food & making a memorable experience for their guests. Can't recommend enough!

(Edit to add: At the time of posting this review I think the menus online are out of date... I don't think there are multiple omakase price points.

Second edit: I was wrong! There are multiple omakases - apparently the other price points are dining room only, not counter service. Thanks for the clarification! )

We chose this restaurant based on its outstanding 4.9-star Google rating while visiting Montreal, but unfortunately, my experience did not match the reviews.

When we arrived without a reservation, the gentleman who greeted us commented that'these days people don't care about making reservations,' even though there were plenty of empty tables. It wasn't a welcoming first impression.

We ordered drinks, one appetizer, & two of the most expensive omakase menus. Our table was so small that it barely fit everything. I mentioned it, but was told,'The food is more important than the table,' which felt dismissive. Because of the limited space, my husband's drink was accidentally knocked over & spilled across half of the table. Although we asked for help, the staff member walked away to attend to another task before cleaning it up. No one offered to replace the drink or move us to a different table.

The presentation of the food was beautiful, but the portions were small, & the sashimi quality did not meet my expectations for a premium omakase. Overall, both the service & food fell short of what I expected from a restaurant with such a high rating.

Nama Omakase gave us an outstanding dining experience in an intimate & elevated atmosphere. The plating was beautiful with great attention to detail, & the ingredients were of very good quality.

The katsu eggplant we got was excellent. It had a crispy panko crust, a tender & juicy interior, & a delicious teriyaki miso sauce. The ora king tartare was also a highlight, with fresh high-quality salmon & nicely balanced flavors throughout. The duck & pear dish was another highlight, with perfect medium-rare meat, a rich & buttery foie gras, & a sauce that complemented the dish well.

The service throughout the evening was attentive & welcoming, adding to the overall experience. I highly recommend to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience!
