About

Nama Omakase focuses on the precision of Japanese culinary arts through a curated sequence of seasonal sushi preparations. The kitchen emphasizes the raw quality of maritime ingredients by utilizing traditional slicing techniques that highlight natural textures. Each presentation follows a deliberate flow, balancing vinegared rice with fresh seafood to ensure consistent flavor profiles across every portion. Creative compositions incorporate subtle seasonings that respect the original integrity of the fish without excessive masking. The environment centers on an open preparation counter that allows for clear observation of the technical skills required for authentic nigiri assembly. This establishment prioritizes the direct relationship between prepared portions and the raw material provided by global coastal sources. The result is a methodical approach to seafood consumption that adheres strictly to established minimalist traditions.

Excellent omakase dinner . Top quality sushi including New Zealand salmon which is a tipoff that you are eating a cut above .
The chef includes nice creative surprises .

Besides the yummy nigiri ..favourites are the dessert … some concoction of ice cream rice pudding & crunchy carmelized sticks. Creative but delicious.
The perfectly cooked magret duck fois gras addition to the omakase is also brilliant & Devine Delish….one of my favourites .

All in all the resto offers good value for money taking into account the higher quality sushi .

Staff very helpful… while chef owner at the sushi bar very warm personal & accommodating to your needs. The resto has a warm sophisticated vibe but not pretentious

Full disclosure… I'm now a local regular … so shilling for this resto is easy …lol Yes I'll be back .

The food was excellent & the chef was very friendly & welcoming. Unfortunately, the overall experience was let down by the service.

Of all restaurants in Montreal, we chose Nama Omakase to celebrate my birthday. I noted the occasion on the reservation & confirmed it with the chef again upon arrival. However, the complimentary birthday dessert was forgotten. While the dessert itself was not important, we had hoped to feel acknowledged on a special occasion, especially given the price & nature of the experience. We were a bit disappointed to have to remind the server, but we understood that mistakes can happen.

The service, however, continued to feel dismissive. When we asked the server to take a photo of us, he appeared visibly annoyed & reluctant. He took only one quick photo before immediately walking away. I thought he was busy, but shortly after, we noticed him laughing & chatting with the couple beside us.

Later, when the bills were brought out, he engaged that same couple in conversation & asked about their favourite dishes, while his first question to us was simply whether we would be paying by card. We understand service can be busy, but the difference in attention made us feel less welcomed throughout the evening.

It was disappointing because the food & chef were both excellent, & we had chosen the restaurant for a meaningful celebration. Unfortunately, the service left a lasting negative impression & took away from what should have been a special birthday experience.

The whole experience was amazing. I highly recommend sitting at the chef's bar so you can see everything! It was nice to hear where all the produce came from too! I also recommend getting a bottle of sake instead of getting a 3 sake pairing. You get to bring the bottle home if you don't finish it! The chef, our waiter, the busboys, everyone was so nice! The setting is intimate but not in the obnoxious way. It's nice & fancy without the feeling of'omg i dont belong here' if that makes sense.
From the amuse-bouche all the way to the dessert, everything was fantastic. I also highlyyyyy recommend adding the wagyu toast!!!! I still think about that bite. SO GOOOOOD!

The food prepared by Sunny (hope I got this right) & his culinary team was excellent. I highly enjoyed the Amberjack, main dish of duck & foie gras (perfectly balanced in terms of complex flavour profiles, sweetness, savoury, fatty & texturally) with an amazing delicate & incentive rice pudding dessert with a hint of salt to round out the omakase meal.

Thank you to Henry & the rest of the staff for the hospitality & I'll be looking forward to next time.

Great first time omakase experience!
Sushi part was perfect, & main course with dessert was unexpectedly very good finish. Chef is friendly & you can see he really cares about his job. Thanks for birthday extras!

A truly excellent & enjoyable experience at Nama. We chose the premium omakase & were told it was 5 courses. The first course came with 3 different dishes & we thought that was 3 of 5 courses. Luckily, it was just the first course & by the time we had our dessert, we were stuffed. From the food to the atmosphere to the service, it was a 5 star experience (coming from someone who has had many omakase experiences & I've been to Japan- Japanese food is my favourite. I would classify this as fusion!)
My only criticism: I wish there was some uni as part of the set menu.
