The trader Joe Truffle Mousse Pate tastes way much better than the foie gras served in Monarque. The bread was super burned & I tasted nothing but the bitter burning taste when spreading the foie gras.
The Napoleon dessert is the next level disappoinment. It's so dense & nothing to do with crispy. My jaw hurts by chewing on it.
The seafood stew is very fishy
The dry aged ribeye steak tastes nothing special.
A huge disappointment.
Best meal we had in Montreal. This was in the brasserie, not the formal dining room. We were seated close to other diners on a fairly empty afternoon which seemed odd but then we realized it was so we could have a view of the kitchen which was very cool. Trout tartare with eggplant, miso, rice puffs & roe was magical. Steak frites was beyond- possibly the best frites we've ever eaten. Waitstaff were kind & helpful, & the wine was so good. Whole family was wowed.
Most of the food we ate was a hit or miss, the duck confit was so tender & so delicious ( definitely recommend) but the steak was just not standing out as much. Or the tuna tar tar which is my favourite had so much flavour. There was an English menu which is helpful, but their service was not the best. The entire experience was not bad.

Monarque is a fabulous restaurant in Old Montréal. My parents & I had a very nice dinner here, with my Dad's steak-fries as the standout dish. We also loved the restaurant's interior, though the menu was a little sparse.
Sat at the bar is the brasserie side. Make aure you have a reservation as it books up solid & there is no wait list for walk ins. Steak frites & duck confit were absolutely amazing. Among the best, if not the best we have ever had. Grwat cheese & the pate / terrine / rillets were amazing. The bartender chose awesome wine pairings too. Gorgeous space as well.
We were a little reluctant about a spot in the touristy area, but so glad we went!
My first taste of the bouillabaisse broth was amazing! Then everything else in the dish was perfectly tender & delicious. My husband's steak frites was done to perfection. We felt welcomed & at home from start to finish. Best crème brûlée ever! Highly recommended!
visited monarque a second time this past weekend & got to try the dry aged steak- it was absolutely delicious paired with the Beaujolais. our server Terry was wonderful & took very good care of us, can't wait to be back!
Absolutely stellar & unforgettable dinners / lunches in'la salle a manger' of Monarque. Carefully thought & masterly executed, each dish brought its magic. The tuna tartare with the foie gras custard & bison tartare were phenomenal. The ris de veaux was equally fantastic. The pintage + agnolotti & bison steak with bourbon sauce were great as well. But clearly the star of the night was the shiso apple with gin & celery dessert...Super balanced, original in texture & flavors, it was probably the best dessert I have ever tasted in my life! Added to the palate experience is the impeccable service by Gustav & Stephanie from the beginning to the end. What a blast!
I have now been to Monarque 10+ times & it never disappoints. Consistency & excellence in the kitchen & on the floor are trademarks of this always packed restaurant.
Came here on a Monday night & it was still pretty crowded! But there was plenty of space in the back which was nice so it didn't feel as claustrophobic.
The food was absolutely amazing!! My table shared the steak tartare but I personally got the Foie gras, ocean trout tartare, & oysters. My group also got the maple eclair & passion fruit pavlova for dessert. The presentation of each dish was beautiful. Our server Terry was attentive & gave us great recommendations. I also loved the atmosphere of the place, it's sleek & modern. Can't wait to come back!
My appetite opened the minute I walked into the dining room! Love the open kitchen concept & the open cellar & curing meats on display as well. The Calanges mocktail was a beautiful discovery & the wine list! Enough said. Service was on point. Every dish was succulent! The grilled foie gras was a perfect balance of crispy & tender, acid & fatty. Absolutely beautiful presentation & flavors. The crab tart was a bit too light on flavor & was served a bit too cold to allow the delicate seasonings to shine. The P.E.I. steak dish was a feast for the senses. The salad dressing was a superb fit for the greens & the endives & the gratin dauphinois was the icing on the cake. The evening was an absolute delight! Will definitely return.
