I love eating at the bar here & the crowd is so beautiful that it rivals the exquisite French food. It is worthy of the Michelin attention it received.
This is the highlight of our trip, for dinner for sure. We were on a seven night road trip & had reservations for dinner in a different spot each night, this is our stand out favorite! It was a holiday trip, so reservations were a must, but how amazing Monarque is, I would advise to always reserve a seat so you don't miss out. It was my wife & I & our two young boy, & all of us agree that we would be regulars anytime we are in Montréal. We sat in the Brasserie as no tables were available in the Salle à Manger was not available at the time we wanted to dine, but that was not a disappointment, it was a tease! This environment is so comfortable & it instantly makes you feel like you are in an experience, not just sitting for a meal. & it an excellent experience at that. Our service was wanting for nothing, the staff seemed to all be part of a Swiss watch operating towards our pleasure, comfort & culinary pleasure. Everyone was so knowledgeable & thoughtful about the food, drinks, their story & it all works so well. We ate & drank as much as we could & still wanted more. I can not wait to return, sit in the Salle Á Manger, I'll sit in every seat in the place if give the opportunity. Thank you so very much, for the work you do, the joy & comfort that you provide to all who pass into you amazing establishment. Please, go to Monarque if you have the chance.
Beautiful restaurant with good food, but unfortunately not ideal for birthdays celebrations.
The restaurant has a no-cake policy, which is completely understandable. However, staff were informed in advance that a cake was being brought as a surprise. Instead of addressing this privately when the cake was brought in, the policy was announced to me & the entire table during service. I was then told we could not eat the cake & could only take pictures with it, which was unfortunate that I found about such a kind surprise with such a lack of discretion from the restaurants manager.
Additionally, the manager who assisted our table (was assigned at the end of our service) had a strong cigarette smell, which was surprising given this is a Michelin Guide restaurant.
There was also confusion around billing, we were told everything was settled & handed the card back, only to then be chased outside & told payment was never run by the staff despite that being explicitly requested & confirmed via our waitress, which was uncomfortable & again just completely unprofessional.
It appears the manager had no sense of the communication that happened with our wait staff prior to her taking over our service.
The space is lovely & the food was good, but the service & discretion did not meet expectations.
Good service, you can tell the staff really cares about your experience. Went for the NYE 4-course. Interesting meal pairings that tasted good but could use some more diversity.
Loved our New Year's eve set menu! Delicious, exciting new flavors & impeccable service. Will definitely be back.
We are in the main restaurant. The food was great: interesting flavours & looked nice. The space is big, with many people, & feels a bit generic.
A great lunch. Casual French bistro atmosphere, friendly service. Started with the pate special but the real star was the bouillabaisse, full of fresh seafood with a great sauce. Very nice place to visit.
Amazing food & impeccable service! I've been here for both personal & professional dinners, & each time I'm impressed by the consistent quality of the food. My recommendation: make a reservation if you can. I got lucky once as a walk-in by arriving early had a seat at the bar which turned out to be a great experience.
Yesterday, my husband & I visited Montreal for the first time & chose this restaurant based on its many positive reviews. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had.
I don't usually leave negative reviews, but the food quality was genuinely hard to believe. My husband's dish was excessively greasy. We started with the winter salad - the lettuce leaves were so large they were difficult to eat, the cheese was overwhelmingly heavy, & the vegetables tasted neither fresh nor crisp, but rather soggy.
We also ordered the bone marrow. While it looked large, there was actually only one or two small scoops of marrow inside, which felt misleading.
For the main courses, we ordered the duck & the ribeye. Both meats lacked freshness & flavor, tasting more like pre-packaged, previously sealed meat rather than freshly prepared dishes. Even basic seasoning like salt was unevenly distributed.
Overall, the experience was very disappointing, especially given the restaurant's reputation & large kitchen. I truly don't understand the glowing reviews, but this was our honest experience.
Bonne cuisine
The food is fantastic & presented beautifully. We ordered several plates, some to share, & everything was out of this world. We enjoyed everything we tried. Our meals were paired with exquisite wine. Our server Phillipe was extremely attentive & friendly.
This review is for the Brasserie. I especially wanted to try this place to get my foie gras fix & it was really good! I only wish the foie gras & the bread were served warm. The bone marrow with snails was also good, but the combination was a little weird. I liked the bone marrow. I liked the snails. But served together took away from enjoying each part on its own.
The duck was roasted to perfection. The skin was so crispy & the meat just fell off the bone. Same goes for the braised veal cheeks. There was no bone to fall off of, but the meat was so tender & just came apart as soon as I pressed down with my knife.
I can't wait to come back to try the Salle à Manger since it's a different menu.
Foie gras parfait 8/10
Bone marrow, Burgundy snails 8/10
Braised veal cheeks 9/10
Duck confit 9/10
