The burgers were *excellent* but neither the fries nor the side salads were anything special. The green salad was fairly average, but give the coleslaw a miss...

Mister Steer underwent renovations to modernize & enlarge the venue. As a young boy, my mother & I would eat here. I remember yummy burgers & Suzie Q french fries, strawberry milkshakes. Luckily, the menu hasn't strayed from its classic offerings.
I ate here with my sons, aged 5 & 6. We each had cheeseburgers & curly fries, & strawberry milkshakes for dessert.
Service was what one might expect. Pricey, but the food is worth it.

I love being able to have a medium rare burger. It was absolutely delicious, as was the chocolate banana shake! I come here every time I visit Montreal.

I had probably given this establishment 5 stars before but last night was quite a disappointment.

First, since the last time we visited this place, the prices have sky-rocketed & the portions became a bit smaller (a smaller plate). The hamburger had a good BBQ taste but the meat was no longer as juicy as it was in the olden days. Secondly, the fries were not the Suzy Q fries that were part of their signature; 3/4 of the plate was filled with little remnants of fries. The Heiniken beer was $8.95! The restaurant was almost empty at 7pm on a Sunday, almost unheard of for this establishment when at one time there were at least 20 people waiting in line to be seated (capacity has gone up to 200). A portion of fries alone will cost one $6.25, espresso/cappuccino about $4.25 just as an example. We left the place disappointed especially since it has become a somewhat touristic trap.

Treated with total disregard upon arrival with white friend. Standing side by side, only white friend was looked at & greeted & spoken to. Three inch piece of HAIR found in my food. Owner/Manager laughed about it(with our waitress) when told about upon my request. When confronted about the laughter by my white friend who witnessed that. The waitress lied & said no. My white friend told her that she was lying because she told her that she SAW THEM! So waitress said "Well, I have to work here!" When owner finally came to our table (Which was at HIS leisure), he looked at, & spoke ONLY to my white friend. She asked him why he was talking to her, when the HAIR was in my food. He spoke to me only from the side of his face. Saying only "So! You say you're not paying for the food!" I never at ANY time said that I will not pay for my food. I was told by the owner/manager concerning the 3 inch piece of HAIR in my food THAT I HAD TO pull OUT OF MY MOUTH AN INCH AT A TIME, that "IT HAPPENS!" I was NOT looked at once during the entire encounter. & had decided then, that I WOULD NOT pay for the food. I in the first place, would not have paid for this type of incompetence. But had not even went that far ahead. Because I had expected to be shown some type of remorse, an apology. Which I DID NOT receive, let alone having been given the decency of actually being LOOKED AT while being "spoken to", which I WAS NOT. Which brings us back to while standing side by side with my white friend upon arrival, her being greeted & spoken to, & my presence being TOTALLY IGNORED.

We have been to Mr Steer a few times before. That day we wanted to try the fish & the Susie Q fries. The service was average, the fish was very oily but the fries were great as always.

I pass by this place 3 times per week but the cheesy sign always stopped me from going in. Well, I ate there before, something like 8 years ago & didn't like it at all, but I saw they did a reno & decided to give them a second shot.
Decent size portion, actually I couldn't finish the fries which were ok, tasty but a bit too oily for my taste. The 1/4 oz hamburger was tiny!!! The meat was good though, better than average.
There were pickles in a jar on the table, not sure what the other reviewers were complaining about.
& to the guys that calls this the best hamburger in town: you need to get out more buddy!
So decent meal for a decent price, daily special was $12, tip included. But for the same money I can get a much better, bigger burger at Hurleys with sweet potato fries. So...this place looks more like a tourist trap to me, won't go back, it is not bad, I just don't see the reason to go into this place given the 100s of restaurants on St. Catherine & close by.

Love this place. Been going here for 47 years. They used to give a piece of Dentyne gum on the side of the plate if you ordered a burger with onion, (they should start doing that again). The generosity has changed since the Reno. No pickles in the bowl that was ALWAYS on the table. I ordered a hamburger steak, & the gravy was in a paper cup. Recently renovated, a shocking change from the old. Don't know why they did the Reno, it was great before, very nostalgic. My hamburger steak was cooked to perfection & so was my wife's burger. Service is good.

Newly renovated & expects customers to pay for the work!

What an utter disappointment & letdown!!! Been eating at their establishments (present & previous since 1958 when they began). Wanted to try the newly-designed... "If it ain't broke" - now it is.

Loved the food & all the little extras/eccentricities such as - the pot of dill pickle slices (now no longer on table or free & "Pickles $1.75" on menu, the little shaker of seasoned salt for the dress-your-own-salad (gone), ditto for the garlic powder.

Worst surprise is the Daily Specials, always available till closing now end at 3:00 p.m., making your meal on which now has as separate charges the soft drink & also the potatoes or baked beans. Beans now taste like the cheapest canned versions (were homemade through all the years). This will have been my final visit. I can get better in many places & a finer meal for sure for my $17 before tip! Complaints & comments brought only excuses.

Customers should stay away in droves so these guys get the point that you cannot pull the plug on all that was & hike your prices at the same time!

Best burgers in Montreal! Love the good, the ambiance is a little old fashioned & needs to be renovated but all in all a good place to eat a fast bite! :)
