Fantastic experience at Méchant Boeuf. We were celebrating a milestone anniversary & had a reservation after Aura at the basilica.
Our server, Sarah R., offered us complimentary dessert instead of the usual glass of prosecco as she noticed we were looking at the mocktails menu. It was such a nice gesture & we were amazed that she noticed we were not having alcohol before we actually ordered.
We discussed with her our plan to order a filet & a strip steak & she suggested that we might do better to share a porterhouse which would be aged. This was a perfect solution for us - we were able to get the aged steaks for close to the same price as the individual non-aged steaks & the shared dish was a nice touch for our anniversary.
Our mocktails were great (we really appreciate it when restaurants offer fancy drinks without alcohol).The steaks were perfectly done (medium rare) & we especially enjoyed the mashed potatoes with egg yolk. The key lime pie for dessert was delicious (a personal favorite of ours). The food was all very satisfying & enjoyable.
Sarah R. really helped make our night feel special. She was observant, helpful & attentive, but not obtrusive in any way. She provided some of the best service we received on our trip to Montreal & felt very lucky for choosing Méchant Boeuf for our celebration.Voir plus

The food was simply outstanding, exactly what you would expect from a menu of that caliber. I'd like to make a special mention of Valter, our exceptional waiter, who was attentive, thoughtful, & full of genuine care. I was meeting my boyfriend's family from Costa Rica for the first time, & I chose Méchant Boeuf for the occasion. First, I want to thank Jerome for making our first date night in almost 3 years an extraordinary experience. I am not using "extraordinary " out of context here. I cannot thank you enough for the kindness you showed us during our meal. I am so thankful. My husband & I could not have asked for a better person to serve us our meal. I want to also thank the other service staff, you were so kind to us throughout the entire meal. Second, the food was very flavorful. My husband & I left nothing on our plates. The French onion beer soup was beautiful on a cold winter night. Both of our steaks were cooked to perfection (medium rare) . The desserts did not disappoint us as they were just as good as the rest of the meal. I would highly recommend trying this place, & asking for Jerome. Had a lovely on a Wednesday night with friends. While the food was delicious, what truly stood out was Valter's exceptional service. He was attentive without being intrusive. He timed each course perfectly, & it felt like he knew just when to check in. We never had to ask for a water refill which was greatly appreciated. I recently dined at Méchant Boeuf in Montreal & had a great experience overall. The service was outstanding, attentive, & friendly, which made our meal enjoyable. We tried the steak tartare, which had a unique kick, setting it apart from other tartares I've tasted. It was flavorful & had a nice texture. We also ordered the poutine with brisket; while the poutine was delicious, I felt the brisket could have used a bit more seasoning to enhance its flavor. Had a fantastic meal at Mechant Boeuf last night during a huge rainstorm. We had a lovely seat by the window & it was warm & cozy. Our server, Valter, was kind & attentive & made several great suggestions as to menu items, including having some delicious pork dumplings to start, along with onion soup. For our mains, we had the salmon & seafood tagliatelle. Both were delicious. The Brookie dessert was a teensy bit dry but the copious amount of ice cream on top more than made up for it! My evening at Méchant Boeuf, located in Old Montreal's charming Vieux-Port, was a delightful mix of culinary delights & a few drawbacks. Opting to dine on a Monday night, we found the dining room unusually quiet, with only a handful of patrons seated at the bar. Our hostess & waitress proved to be attentive professionals. The service was impeccable from the start, with a warm attitude & thoughtful recommendations. We kicked off the evening by savoring a delicious Amaretto Sour, my personal favorite, & the Feeling Spicy, a bold concoction of Hennessy VS cognac, lemon juice, bitters, & lavender syrup. The cocktails were well-balanced, leaving a positive first impression. As for the appetizers, the pork dumplings were satisfactory, though their likely frozen origin was discernible. In contrast, the beef tartare was a pleasant surprise, generously portioned & tastefully seasoned. For the main courses, we opted for the NY strip steak with pepper sauce, accompanied by Monte Cristo potatoes, & the ribeye steak. The dishes were flavorful, well-prepared, & featured generous portions. The quality of ingredients & culinary expertise shone through. However, the experience was marred by the noisy ambiance created by patrons at the bar. Their boisterous behavior, with no regard for the tranquility of others, could have been better managed by the restaurant staff. Unfortunately, the servers did not take initiative to address the noise, negatively impacting our overall enjoyment of the evening. Despite this drawback, Méchant Boeuf remains a recommendable spot for its enticing flavors & professional service. I would suggest, however, carefully choosing the timing of your visit to avoid a overly loud atmosphere, especially if you seek a more serene & intimate dining experience.Voir plus
