Méchant Boeuf is a very good steakhouse. The staff is polite & accommodating, we came for a birthday & were not disappointed. Food quality is exquisite, special shout out to our waitress. The wait time for the tomahawk steak was a bit long, around an hour, but at the end, it was well worth it.
If you're looking for a unique experience in the heart of Montreal, this restaurant offers exactly the type of gastronomic getaway you'd expect, all at a fair price with great staff.
The prices are steep, but this is justified with the taste & food quality. We did not mind at allVoir plus

Sat at the bar & had my dinner there, great Bartender Jean L. , very knowledgeable & great conversationalist. Great service, had Steak Tartare, Ribeye… au poivre . Atmosphere is great & beers are fresh & crisp. Cocktails thumbs up.

Came for dinner on Sunday after a day at the Grand Prix. Overall, our experience, the service, & the food were outstanding. Our server was Emma & she was a total rockstar!!
Even with the restaurant at full capacity over a major event weekend, Emma was able to ensure our water & wine glasses were always topped up, we had timing updates about when to expect the next course of our meal, & she even helped make recommendations for places for brunch the following day. The service was the best we had out of all the restaurants we ate at.
The food was outstanding! We enjoyed the beef carpaccio, shrimps cocktail, ribeye steaks, Monte Cristo potatoes, & ended with the profiteroles for dessert. I could write a whole essay on my obsession with the Monte Cristo potatoes - they are a MUST try! I would make a trip back to Méchant Boeuf for these potatoes alone.
Every element of the meal was spot on! This was far & away the best meal I ate in Montreal during our trip (& we had the chance to enjoy the legendary'duck in a can' earlier in the weekend, iykyk).
If you are in Montreal, do not miss the chance to eat here, & definitely do not skip the Monte Cristo potatoes - seriously it was THAT good!Voir plus

Fantastic experience at Méchant Boeuf. We were celebrating a milestone anniversary & had a reservation after Aura at the basilica.
Our server, Sarah R., offered us complimentary dessert instead of the usual glass of prosecco as she noticed we were looking at the mocktails menu. It was such a nice gesture & we were amazed that she noticed we were not having alcohol before we actually ordered.
We discussed with her our plan to order a filet & a strip steak & she suggested that we might do better to share a porterhouse which would be aged. This was a perfect solution for us - we were able to get the aged steaks for close to the same price as the individual non-aged steaks & the shared dish was a nice touch for our anniversary.
Our mocktails were great (we really appreciate it when restaurants offer fancy drinks without alcohol).The steaks were perfectly done (medium rare) & we especially enjoyed the mashed potatoes with egg yolk. The key lime pie for dessert was delicious (a personal favorite of ours). The food was all very satisfying & enjoyable.
Sarah R. really helped make our night feel special. She was observant, helpful & attentive, but not obtrusive in any way. She provided some of the best service we received on our trip to Montreal & felt very lucky for choosing Méchant Boeuf for our celebration.Voir plus

3 Stars quality across the board, but i demote to 2 stars because of the price+expectation. Boeuf was out of their boeuf cut & various other items - from steaks to wines. They also refused to cook meat rare charred, then brought out a very overcooked medium rare. At this price point I am going elsewhere, although nothing here was bad, per se.Voir plus

The place is very beautiful, but the food was disappointing. We ordered steak & shrimp, but they had no taste. The shrimp felt like frozen ones from a supermarket, & the steak was not good. Even the mashed potatoes didn't taste nice - I didn't know it was possible to make them badly. Cannot recommend. & it was too loud.Voir plus

Rib steak not seasoned & thin, sure didn't seem like a 12 oz. Asparagus & carrots were overcooked. The server came with pepper, had to ask for salt. Would be nice if they could just provide them on the table as most people like to do it themselves. Somewhat disappointing for the price.Voir plus

Méchant Boeuf never disappoints, & our latest visit was no exception! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm & inviting, setting the perfect stage for an incredible evening.
A huge shoutout to our waiter, Valter, who was unbelievably kind, knowledgeable, & professional, truly a top-tier waiter. His recommendations were spot on, his attention to detail impeccable, & his genuine passion for hospitality made our experience even more special. Service like this is rare, & Valter set the bar incredibly high.
Of course, the food was outstanding as always perfectly cooked steaks, lovely wine, & a lively yet cozy ambiance that makes Méchant Boeuf one of our favorite spots in Montreal.
Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. Ask for Valter! Can't wait to return!Voir plus

My wife & I tried out this restaurant that is one of 3 in the Hotel Nelligan where we are staying. From the moment we arrived the service of all the staff was excellent but I would like to especially highlight the very welcoming & professional service that our main waitress Amelie provided to us! (15 out of 10!!!)
The food was nicely presented & my steak was quite good although my steak had to be reheated .My wife had only a Caesar salad with a shrimp cocktail & the shrimp were excellent but she found the salad was too heavy & too full of ingredients like bacon, Parmesan cheese, soggy croutons & way too much salad dressing! Despite that we enjoyed our evening because of the nice ambiance & excellent & friendly service of all the staff & especially Amelie who made us feel very special!!!Voir plus

We had an amazing night here celebrating my wife's 40th bday, we were very well looked after by Sarah. We ordered the beef carpaccio to start & picanha & NY striploin steak cuts for our main, everything were well made & very flavorful prepared to our liking! It was a good experience. To be fair, it was very busy during our time. The door was open a lot & it was a little cold inside. Besides that, the food was very good. The ceasar salad was amazing. The steak was cooked to our desired temperature & the sauces were good. The mashed potato was served cold & the fries were not noteworthy, but it didn't take much away from the meal.

beautiful ambience & great friendly service. location is awesome, in the beautiful area of Old Montreal. The food however at least for us that night left us disappointed. Both steak orders were well over-cooked & the braised beef ribs was quite salty & inconsistently cooked, beautifully soft & tender in spots & then tough & overcooked in other spots. First, I want to thank Jerome for making our first date night in almost 3 years an extraordinary experience. I am not using "extraordinary " out of context here. I cannot thank you enough for the kindness you showed us during our meal. I am so thankful. My husband & I could not have asked for a better person to serve us our meal. I want to also thank the other service staff, you were so kind to us throughout the entire meal. Second, the food was very flavorful. My husband & I left nothing on our plates. The French onion beer soup was beautiful on a cold winter night. Both of our steaks were cooked to perfection (medium rare) . The desserts did not disappoint us as they were just as good as the rest of the meal. I would highly recommend trying this place, & asking for Jerome. This was soooo good. As a family of 4 we shared dumplings & calamari for an entree & they were so yummy. Then we did the steak & fries & that was the best feed we have had on holidays yet. The oysters were fresh & came with the usual garnishes. The French onion soup was flavorful & a lovely start to the meal. The caramelized onions gave the soup a beautiful flavor. We got the 24oz dry aged cote de bouf. The steak had that distinct aged flavor infused into the meat & fat however was missing that nice crusty char on the outside. Service was non existent. Our waiter took our order but was never seen again until dessert. Finished dishes would accumulate on our table & not be cleared.Voir plus

Had a lovely on a Wednesday night with friends. While the food was delicious, what truly stood out was Valter's exceptional service. He was attentive without being intrusive. He timed each course perfectly, & it felt like he knew just when to check in. We never had to ask for a water refill which was greatly appreciated. My boyfriend & I were on a short visit to Montreal, & we're so glad we chose Méchant Boeuf. The food, the service, & the ambience were all fantastic. I had the 35oz dry aged porterhouse, & he had the 45oz Tomahawk ribeye. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, & the sauces complimented them. Valter was an amazing server.
