Phone was ringing non stop & no hostess to be seen (packed on a Friday night). Had expected the terrace to be open by now but was disappointed. Then got a two top next to the window looking at the parking lot. I moved to have my back to the traffic. To be honest, it's the type of table that most restaurants hold for walk-ins but the hostess was young & seemed overwhelmed. My seat was covered in food crumbs & the table & menus were greasy. Server arrived & I mentioned it but she immediately lost her smile & seemed annoyed. We ordered a nice bottle of wine & she perked up. Everything from that point went well. She was attentive, but not overly friendly. We ordered a #23 & #24 & they exceeded our expectations. Dough was perfect, a little crispy & chewy enough to enjoy. Generous toppings & delicious sauce. All in all it was a reasonably priced meal as well. Last thing, I watched a busboy clear a table & he was very careless about wiping the table down, not paying attention to flinging the food crumbs everywhere. He actually knocked into my husband's back as he was leaving & my husband turned & said,'you good there bud?' but by then the young man just walked away. I would say that their staff needs a bit more supervision & training. But I know that it's hard to find staff these days unfortunately.
We are a senior West Island couple who go out for dinner occasionally. This was our first visit to Manago on St. Charles & we were so pleased to have found it! We had gone there hankering for wood baked pizza which was excellent - so fresh, tender & flavourful. The lentil soup & calamari were also really good as was the house red wine. Our waiter was the most cheerful server we have met in years. & the other patrons came in families & groups. Everyone in the filled up restaurant was smiling & chatting - on a Wednesday school & work night in April! We can highly recommend this authentic Italian eatery & we'll be back!
Went for lunch & it really wasn't too busy Apple seating really really cute place. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The flavours were good. The wine was good. The service was really prompt & the server was super nice.
What can I say, great wine & Pizza in a wood fired oven. Attentive service & great atmosphere.
We ordered the pizza which was good. When we were seated, we were caught off guard by some of the cutlery that was dirty. That was a huge turn off & the first red flag.
2nd red flag : We were then rushed into paying for our bill when it was clear that we weren't ready to leave & enjoying our tea & coffee.
3rd red flag: when ordering a glass of wine it was a very, very small portion ( less the a quarter of the the glass).
The service I remembered from a few years back was a lot friendlier & efficient than it was last night & the food of better quality.
Needless to say, it was a disappointment.
Absolutely delicious food. Would love to be able to bring my own wine though. Beautiful interior design & atmosphere. Love the Eddison bulbs. A little on the darker side, inside the restaurant. Would love it to be like a knotch or two brighter. Will definitely go back. Highly recommend
Pizza is amazing. Cooked in a wood fire oven. They can turn any pizza on the menu into a calzone. The brie & pear salad is also really good. Highly recommended. The pasta is not fresh/made in house, just an FYI. They offer gluten-free penne only. The service was quick despite being busy. Our waitress Anna was polite & helpful. Extensive wine list. They have a full bar so you can order almost any drink you want.
Excellent meal & nice wine selection. Great for a bigger dinner party. Would recommend & will go back.
Everything amazing, I went to eat at Vieux Four Manago & sebastian served us, he was the best, made a nice atmosphere during the night by discussing with us, he also helped us pick a good wine that matched perfectly with the food. I recommend this restaurant & ask for sebastian to be your waiter!
Yesterday evening we celebrated a friend's birthday in a party of 3, with a reservation. As always, since we enjoyed the terrasse here a few years ago, we enjoyed last night immensely, feeling treated, with cooking & quality of ingredients a cut above for generosity & freshness, & the considerate, timely service of Kevin. The wine list does not disappoint. On the Table d'hôte we enjoyed the crab cakes, as good as at any beach resort, with a thin crispy crust, & the thin-crust pizza made in a traditional wood-fired oven, with a request accommodated for using blue cheese instead of the goat cheese for my husband. (It was similar to my favorite Francesca pizza on the à la carte menu.) The house-made tiramisu is a very generous portion, & does not exclude any traditional ingredients like the liqueur. The mascarpone was smooth & rich, the lady finger cookies fresh & delicious. Our birthday guest received a festive sparkler & we sang happy birthday. If you'd like to celebrate, or simply feel too tired to cook dinner, or want a lunch treat, try Le Vieux Four. I am SO happy for this discovery, & was reluctant to share, in case reservation space disappeared! It is now our "go to" spot, & EVERY service person's genuine attentiveness is really rare today, with such good food, from savory veal, to pizza, crispy, hot calamari or the arancini, try everything, you won't be sorry!!!! Worth every $.
