Great Italian restaurant in the West Island.
I ordered the Meat Lovers Pizza & was not disappointed. Solid amount of meat on the pizza. Smoked meat was a highlight. The cheese & pizza sauce were good too. Crust was airy yet crispy. Great pizza overall.
We also had the fried calamari as entree but I must say the portion was a little disappointing considering the price.
But other than that, the whole dining experience was very refined & the food tasted great. Next time I come back, I want to try the chicken parm.
Made a reservation, but had to wait in a crowd by the door for a bit. Phone was ringing non stop & no hostess to be seen (packed on a Friday night). Had expected the terrace to be open by now but was disappointed. Then got a two top next to the window looking at the parking lot. I moved to have my back to the traffic. To be honest, it's the type of table that most restaurants hold for walk-ins but the hostess was young & seemed overwhelmed. My seat was covered in food crumbs & the table & menus were greasy. Server arrived & I mentioned it but she immediately lost her smile & seemed annoyed. We ordered a nice bottle of wine & she perked up. Everything from that point went well. She was attentive, but not overly friendly. We ordered a #23 & #24 & they exceeded our expectations. Dough was perfect, a little crispy & chewy enough to enjoy. Generous toppings & delicious sauce. All in all it was a reasonably priced meal as well. Last thing, I watched a busboy clear a table & he was very careless about wiping the table down, not paying attention to flinging the food crumbs everywhere. He actually knocked into my husband's back as he was leaving & my husband turned & said,'you good there bud?' but by then the young man just walked away. I would say that their staff needs a bit more supervision & training. But I know that it's hard to find staff these days unfortunately.
Went to Le Vieux Four Manago in Kirkland & really enjoyed it. The pizza was solid, nice crust, good sauce, & generous toppings. Everything tasted fresh & well made.
The place has a relaxed vibe & the service was friendly.
Good spot in the West Island, I'd go back.
The food was excellent- chosen from the Table d'hote. After a tasty entree of pear & goat cheese, we had a delicious combo of mushroom risotto & cod. The sauces were a treat. Our server knew his stuff & was attentive on a very busy evening.
Our waiter was very nice but our pizzas were not as good as usual. Both pizzas were very dry & had barely any tomato sauce.
I am Italian & have a hard time comparing restaurants to my mum's home cooking, but Manago shocked me! I ordered the Chicken Manago, straying from my usual Parmgiana & I just couldn't get over how flavourful every bite was. Everything on the plate was perfect. I was expecting to bring home lunch for the next day, but I ate it all, only wishing I wasn't so full as to sweep up the remaining sauces with more bread! I only wish the restaurant wasn't so completely packed so that we could have had more space to really slow down & breathe between bites (something about a crammed restaurant always makes me feel like we have to eat faster!) 100% my fav Italian in Montreal!
Surprised that everything was bland.
Pepperoni in pizza iffy, Gigi sauce was too watery. Was truly expecting better given how busy resto is & the reviews. We had good friendly service though.
Let me share a little secret that most West Islanders know, but many others on the island haven't discovered: Resto Vieux Four Manago, an Italian restaurant on St. Charles in Kirkland, is our hidden gem. When my kids were younger, we used to bring them there for the kids' meal of pasta. For a while, it became our family's go-to spot. You know how kids are-picky eaters with ever-changing tastes-& eventually, they grew tired of pasta. But during that time, my wife & I stuck to one thing we loved: the'frutti di mare' pizza. As the name suggests, it's a seafood-inspired pizza, topped with shrimp, scallops, crab, & a rich seasoned tomato sauce to bring it all together.
Though the restaurant was a favorite, life & changing preferences led us away from it for several years. But Vieux Four Manago has always remained a family-driven place, with a welcoming ambiance, soft background music, & a bar area where you can catch a game if you're into sports. It's the kind of place that's perfect for celebrating life's milestones, from birthdays to anniversaries, or any event where you want to be surrounded by loved ones. The restaurant's heart has always been its family atmosphere, & the staff make you feel right at home, like part of their own family.
Now that our kids are much older, they still haven't developed the same love for pasta, but recently, my wife & I decided to take a nostalgic trip back to Vieux Four Manago & order our old favorite, the'frutti di mare' pizza. It felt like we were stepping back in time-the wood-fired brick oven was still there, tirelessly producing pizzas for both dine-in patrons & takeout orders. When our pizza finally arrived, it was just as we remembered it. The toppings were perfectly browned, exactly how I've always liked them, & the crust was golden, light, & deliciously crispy. We added a drizzle of chili oil with just the right amount of heat, giving each bite a subtle extra kick. As soon as I took that first bite, a flood of memories came rushing back. It tasted every bit as wonderful as it did in the past, reminding us of all the good times we'd shared at this spot.
Can you believe it? Resto Vieux Four Manago boasts an incredible selection with over 27 different pizzas & 16 pasta dishes! Whether you're craving a classic like Margherita or feeling adventurous & want to try something bold, there's a pizza to satisfy every taste. The variety is impressive, with something to suit everyone's preferences, all crafted with that signature, old-fashioned flavor that instantly makes you feel at home. From traditional favorites like pepperoni & mozzarella to more inventive combinations, this place has every pizza lover's dream covered. Plus, their menu offers a wide range of meals with chicken, beef, & seafood to satisfy all appetites beyond just pizza. With their focus on pizza & pasta, there's truly something for everyone, & the options fit various budgets, ensuring an excellent meal for every occasion. Whether you're dining in or taking out, they're sure to hit the mark!
If you're looking to dine out & enjoy a quiet evening, the atmosphere at Vieux Four Manago is refreshingly serene compared to many other restaurants. It's not too loud, allowing you to relax & let the background fade away. My wife & I had a wonderful evening there. With delicious food in my belly & mature love in the air, it was the perfect recipe for a satisfying end to the night. The digital candlelight setup created an intimate & romantic setting, with the soft glow of the virtual candles adding a warm touch to the experience. Light, soothing music played gently in the background, enhancing the mood without overwhelming the conversation.
If you haven't been, or if you're looking for a cozy, family-friendly restaurant, Resto Vieux Four Manago is that special, under-the-radar place that you'll fall in love with. It's our little secret, & one we're happy to keep going back to. @mtlrestorap
The service was excellent - fast, friendly, & efficient. The pizza was delicious & flavorful. I particularly enjoyed the seafood pasta, which had a delicious sauce. I would highly recommend trying the pizza & tiramisu. While the restaurant is a bit pricey, the quality of the food makes it worthwhile for a special occasion.
Date night 2 people total $139 tax & tip (18%) included.
Truly the food was a disaster.
All the pastas. Super sweet tomatoes sauce & the Bolognes has barely any meat, so it was like tomato sauce/ all pomodoro as well.
The Cesar salad, the lettuce looked like it came out the garbage bin & was served with the sauce.
The cheese pizza was finally the only thing that tasted good & was eatable.
