Mama C is a tribute to the land of olive groves, where flavors bask in the Mediterranean sun and dance under the starlit sky. Inspired by the freshness of the islands & the warmth of the mainland, our dishes are a testament to quality, from seafood & meat to local and fresh ingredients, they evoke a modern and contemporary twist on Greek tradition. Blending citrus and herbal notes with fresh produce from land & sea, Mama C presents both classic and modern dishes, each designed to share & warm your heart.
Mama C is a modern Greek restaurant that offers a refined take on classics with consistently delicious flavors and a warm, elegant atmosphere. Guests praise attentive, knowledgeable service and a bar and wine list that pair beautifully with the menu. The menu shines with standout dishes like grilled octopus, sea bass, pastitsio, spanakopita salad, and shareable plates that balance comforting and inventive Mediterranean flair. Desserts such as bougatsa and other sweets are frequently highlighted as memorable finales. While prices are often described as premium, the overall experience, with quality ingredients, thoughtful presentation, and a lively yet relaxed vibe, makes it a destination for celebrations and special dinners. The space, decor, and ambience in the Old Port contribute to a sense of occasion, while still feeling welcoming for frequent visits.
My friends & I loved the food so much! They had a sommelier that recommended us the best wine to pair with our food. Our server Josh was extremely attentive & knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
Nous avons eu de très bonnes suggestions pour la nourriture que nous avons partagé & pour le vin. Le sommelier a écouté nos préférences & nous a recommandé un vin dans nos cordes. Vous pouvez même lui demander l'histoire du vin!
Our dinner at Mama C was easily one of our top three dining experiences ever. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere struck that rare balance between professionalism & genuine warmth.
Our waiter, Josh, set the tone for the evening with attentive service. He made us feel completely at ease while still delivering the kind of polished experience you'd expect from a truly exceptional restaurant. The sea bass was a highlight, especially watching Josh debone it tableside with effortless skill.
The sommelier, Jonathan, was also impressive. His wine recommendations were thoughtful, intuitive, & absolutely spot?on. We left happy with each pairing & also with a few new bottles we will want to seek out in the future. His enthusiasm & expertise added so much to the night.
Between the graciousness of both Josh & Jonathan, the evening felt personal in a way that's hard to come by. & while Montreal spoiled us with incredible food throughout our trip, Mamma C was the standout meal & is the one we're still talking about. The desserts alone were unforgettable.
A special mention as well to the bartender, who crafted a cocktail that perfectly matched the flavour profile I described. It was one of those small but meaningful touches that elevated the entire experience.
went here with my friend & it did not disappoint at all. we were so amazed by the amazing flavour of every single meal we had. i would definitely recommend sharing/splitting items! it's a much better experience & can actually help you save a little on your final bill. it was such a nice, romantic atmosphere but was a little chilly, so learn from my mistake & wear long sleeves! valet was super helpful & reliable, had no problems with that & made the experience stress free. we got the classic tzatziki, truffled crispy tyropita, pastitsio with seasonal fresh black truffle, & the spanakopita salad. each meal was mouthwatering. overall, amazing experience & we are already planning our next visit!
Great experience with a delicious lunch menu. We reserved a table for 15 people to celebrate a colleague's retirement. The experience from completing the reservation up until the end of meal was great. Melissa was very nice & took time to explain the menu.
The fish of the day was one of the best fish dishes we've ever had!
We chose Mama C because of its nice location & good reviews, which made us decide to have breakfast here. The restaurant interior is pleasant, clean, & well maintained, which we truly appreciated. Unfortunately, our experience with the food was disappointing, as the bread served was overtoasted. More concerning, my husband became ill about an hour after eating. He had only ordered the eggs benedict with salmon & orange juice, yet he felt nauseous & had a bad stomachache shortly after. He ended up staying in bed for two days, which was very worrying for us. Considering their prices, we expected higher quality food.
We were also confused by the shared comfort room since there were no clear labels indicating that it was for both men & women.
I've been here on the weekend & recently on a Tuesday evening. It was a totally different experience. Weekends have the A team working. The service was substantially less on Tuesday. The food is as good though!
Excellent service de la part de Josh qui fut aimable & professionnel. Toute fois le plateau de fruit de mer nous a extrement déçu en terme de quantité / qualité / prix... 135$...
Decent greek food. Some items amazing while others left much to be desired.
Plating & service was as to be expected when good, clumsy when bad (ie. assistant server injecting himself into a wine selection presentation & tasting, dropping off a dish missing plates & ultimately breaking the flow of said presentation).
Certain dishes seemed to be a bit lukewarm for what they warranted, while others extremely hot, some arriving nearly instantly, while others arriving after significant waiting, & some exciting & flavourful (pita & dip, sashimi were great, octopus although cold was also quite nice) while others shockingly bland (the moussaka here is a dish served in a shallow au gratin-style pan & tastes only of béchamel sauce, salted meat, & eggplant, rather than being the vibrant, well-plated, & warmly spiced dish it is meant to be, & in complete honesty the greek salad legitimately could have been from a grocery store carton if you had me blindfolded - a slog to finish). Overall an inconsistent menu, from my selections at least.
Had Theo C as a server who was great throughout the meal with wine pairings, conversations, & a shooter for the occasion, however at the end of the meal, payment & tip as well as an exchange of names & handshakes were immediately followed up with the presentation of a business card & branded postcard with a request for a'good google rating' in his name'so he can get a free meal' - something so comically cheap that one wonders where the hell they have even just eaten, a ludicrously tasteless conclusion to what would otherwise be simply a passably mediocre experience. Perhaps the staff were trained by Uber drivers.
Interior design as others have stated is of course beautiful as one would expect at this price point, but given that a restaurant is in need of an interior in order to begin operation, it does not influence my review of the actual operating dining experience.
Overall sentiment is that the restaurant needs to decide what it wants to be: a great greek space that creates genuine, meaningful experiences & promotes an authentic desire to spread good word & return, or a cheap old port tourist trap. I think the area is in more need of something aligning with the former.
