Madras Curry House is described as the best Indian restaurant in the greater Montreal area and a much welcomed South Indian option on the south shore. The flavors are said to taste like real Indian cuisine, with idlis and uttapams that are hard to find in Canada and praised for their quality. Dosas with sambar and chutneys, along with dishes like mutton kothu roti and chicken curry, are cited for rich flavors and perfect spice balance. Across visits, the consistency and authentic South Indian style stand out, with many noting comforting, nostalgic, homey flavors that feel like a warm hug. Service is typically friendly and welcoming, though some reviews mention longer waits due to a small kitchen and chef-owner operation. Values are favorable with generous portions and reasonable prices, and beverages such as tea, coffee, and mango lassi receive compliments. Overall, Madras Curry House is seen as a hidden gem worth returning to for dosa, curries and seafood options.
Madras Curry House is my forever go-to for South Indian food! I always order online, & most of the time I just leave a little note in the comments, & they actually make it exactly how I like it 🥹❤? From fluffy idlis & crispy dosas to rich chicken curry, comforting vada curry, & the freshest fish & shrimp, every dish is full of authentic flavor. The food is so comforting & nostalgic, it truly feels like a warm hug from home. Thank you for always delivering more than just food!💛
I had Idli Vada combo. Quantity less & Quality more seems to be the idea here. Vada has less oil, sambar & chutnies are thick, not watery. But the sizes of idli & Vada are not that big in comparison to other South Indian Restaurants, you wont feel full & will order more.

Decent indian restaurant in the heart of downtown Montreal. Tried the Mysore Masala Dosa, Chicken Masala Dosa, & the Medu Vada. The food was quite good. However, the service & ambience is just okayish. Service can be improved by maybe keeping someone at the front counter or having a bell to alert the staff at the back of house. Prices are on the lower side, so anyone can get decent value for what they pay.
A pleasant surprise in Montreal looking for authentic South Indian food. Salt lassi, vada/sambhar/ idli & chutney was excellent. Taste from chennai, was a great feeling & satisfying.
No AC working. The food was so spiced up or too much masala. Not for everyone. Medu vada were great but again spiced with green chili. Wasted our dinner.
Best & most authentic South Indian food in Canada (GTA & Montreal). The chutneys are super fresh & flavourful unlike the frozen chutneys (coconut & tomato). Our favourites here are ghee roast masala dosa & vada. For better experience of vadas you can request them to make them crisp. The service is very good & overall a very satisfying experience if you're fond of South Indian food (Tamil style).
I'm used to Toronto Indian food, particularly South Indian, & this spot is on par with the absolute best I've had in Toronto, at some big name places. The Masala Dosa is excellent, with the dosa crispy & the chutneys really pop. The Medhu Vada were beautifully crunchy on the outside, & pillowy soft on the inside, & the Idli Sambar were excellent. The Sambar in particular was very well spiced, not hot, but not dull, & chock full of veggies in every bite. Overall, a great experience, & one that I've missed since I've moved to MTL!
We always choose this restaurant when we're in the downtown (near Guy-Concordia) area. It has a relaxed atmosphere, the food is tasty, & the prices are reasonable. The chicken curry is fantastic, & other South Indian dishes like dosa, idli-vada, & utthapam are delicious. However, I'm not a fan of the rotis here. Overall, we recommend it.
