J'ai été surprise d'arriver au même établissement que j'avais visité l'an passé, mais pas exactement. Reprise d'un commerce que j'avais visité l'an passé, je trouve l'endroit BEAUCOUP plus chaleureux avec sa nouvelle peau.
Menu limité mais tout semble délicieux chez mes voisins de table; j'entends des éloges du steak, un crounch du fish & chips, des Scotch egg qui m'ont l'air, ma fois, décadent! Ou un classique cheeseburger, & les frites ont l'ai bonne!!
J'ai commandé le Welch Rarebit (pensez une'fondue' fromage sans prétention ou un pain gratiné plein de goût) & le fish & chips. Il est resté rien dans mon assiette!
Le petit salon du INN est beaucoup plus invitant, avec jeux de cartes, de dés, café, thé...
La chambre est confortable & coquette, propre & tout plein d'oreillers!
Inclusifs, avec chaises hautes, la maman en moi est heureuse.
Les employés sont super sympa! Entreprise familiale, j'ai jasé au fils le soir & au père le matin.
Belle vue sur la rivière & ses rapides.

Ce qui aurait gagné la note parfaite aurait été des bières rousse/ambrée/brune au menu, & bien sûr si il y avait plus d'option de repas & surtout, de la poutine au menu! Mais tout ce qui se trouve au menu est bon, alors ils ont misé sur les valeurs sûres.
Nous avons juste essayé le restaurant lors d'un passage a Val-David.
Bonne adresse dans le coin, endroit chaleureux, n'hésitez pas y aller pour le dîner ou le souper. Très bon service malgré quatre enfants en dessous de 4 ans.
Nous avons aimé tous nos plats. Le fish & chip & la tourte au poulet étaient très réussi. Le burger bien, mais il lui manque un petit quelque chose. Le scotch egg était un des meilleurs que j'ai goûté au Québec.

Le service est excellent. L'ambiance & le décor sont agréable. Mon plat (fish & chips) excellent & les burgers sont généreux. Un excellent choix d'alcool & bière. Cependant le menu est très limité dans les choix.
They had us at Scotch egg & sticky toffee pudding… so rare in Quebec, & frankly so well done here! We loved the mostly traditional British courses. The fish & chips is as good as everyone says, & we loved the typical chicken & leek pie with its own tiny pitcher of jus. Really pleased to see that this idyllic waterfall-side locale has been repossessed by such a motivated team, whose enthusiasm for their concept is clear throughout the meal. One of the co-owners even made us an absolutely fantastic recommendation for a digestif to go with our dessert. It is a little Montreal for the setting, not in a bad way but one thing that is definitely not a big city are the prices. I don't know if they've made adjustments given some of the comments, but we were absolutely stuffed. The bill for three beer, a cocktail & a whiskey, as well as two mains & an appetizer, plus dessert at was well under what we would pay virtually anywhere else for the same quality, originality & overall experience. Service is excellent & friendly as described. We try to be loyal to the many great options in town, but we'll have to try & squeeze this one in among our other favorites!
We first visited for a Guinness & were met with such friendly service. The waiter mentioned it was the best food in town, so we had to come back, & we're so glad we did. The fish & chips, chicken & leek pie, & sticky toffee pudding were all amazing. You can really tell everything is homemade. The wine was also excellent, & the service was great & friendly throughout. Highly recommend this place!
Nous sommes allés manger hier soir pour la première fois au Mac Taverne Pub & nous avons été comblés du début à la fin. Assis juste à côté du foyer, l'ambiance était parfaite. On peut s'entendre parler malgré l'endroit bondé de gens. Situé à proximité de la rivière du Nord à Val-David, l'emplacement ne peut pas être meilleure. Pour ce qui est du menu... WOW! Petit, mais maîtrisé à merveille. Ce qui à mon avis, est beaucoup mieux qu'un menu avec trop de choix où l'on peut se perdre. Nous avons pris les ailes de poulet & le Scotch egg en entrée & Fish & Chip & Cheeseburger en plat principal & pour la finale, le Sticky toffee pudding à l'érable. 😋 Pour ce qui est du menu alcool, y'en a pour tous les goûts (bières, vins & cocktails) & que dire du service, des gens passionnés à l'écoute des clients & prêt à vous conseiller sur les choix du menu. Bref, une soirée parfaite! Nous y retournerons certainement.
Séjour parfait! On y retournera pour l'ambiance décontractée, la gentillesse des hôtes, sans oublier les meilleurs fish'n chips (pour vrai). La prochaine fois avec les skis ou le vélo, selon la saison.

An Unforgettable Stay at the Mactavern! Already Can't Wait to Return
My partner & I escaped to Val-David for a snowy weekend of relaxation & exploring, & our stay at the Mactavern was nothing short of incredible.
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the staff. After dropping off our bags, we were greeted by two of the four owners-warm, genuine, & excited to show us around their beautiful (new) space. The location is perfect: just a short walk from the quaint village shops & right in front of the river, whose gentle stream you can hear from the auberge. It's the kind of atmosphere that instantly makes you exhale.
Naturally, we wandered into the restaurant, where the crackling wood oven in the corner set the perfect cozy ambiance & the host offered a warm blanket. It was perfect as the first layer of snow settled outside. Soon after, we were introduced to Mike & Tim, the brother duo & creative forces behind the kitchen (Mike) & the drinks (Tim). Their passion shows in everything they do, this is truly a place for foodies, by foodies.
We began with two hot cider drinks & a crisp lager, which paired beautifully with the perfect fish & chips, flaky, cooked just right, with cold peas that balanced the dish perfectly. As our second courses made their way to the table, I noticed Tim warming our plates on the wood oven. They think of everything, & that care shows in every detail.
Then came the steak & linguine. All we can say is wowwww. The steak was phenomenal, & the peppercorn au jus was honestly the best I've ever had.
From the food to the ambiance to the heartfelt hospitality, the entire experience at the Mactavern was unforgettable. Thank you to the whole team for an exceptional stay. We can't wait to come back.
Best place in the area! The MacTavern makes you feel at home. Drinks are ALL great & the Welsh Rarebit leaves me wordless everytime.
The Scotch egg & the Fish & Chips are also big winners to me.

My partner & I spent a night here & enjoyed every moment. This family run establishment does it right - from the cocktails & homemade cider to everything that's cooking in the kitchen.
The food was delicious. The scotch egg, fish & chips, & steak were our favorites, but we loved everything we tried.
Our room came with a massive tub that did not disappoint. We got to explore the surrounding area & come back for cozy bites in between.
1000/10 would recommend! A great family running an exceptional business 💯
Went there for lunch with my family. I tried a Scotch egg for the first time & it was absolutely delicious. We all had the fish & chips & it was amazing. The service was phenomenal, I would definitely recommend stopping by when you're in the area!! You want be disappointed!!

À l'entrée, une serveuse à qui j'ai dit bonjour - nous étions un groupe de sept (j'étais d'abord seule avec deux ados, les autres garaient la voiture) - a eu une attitude peu aimable. Avec un geste des bras, elle nous a indiqué de nous reculer davantage vers l'extérieur de l'entrée. Pourtant, nous ne bloquions personne & personne ne passait. Le restaurant était presque vide, & même si la terrasse était bien remplie, il restait encore des tables disponibles.
Nous nous sommes reculés comme elle l'avait demandé, puis elle est allée parler à un autre serveur. Elle est revenue en disant : « Il n'y a plus rien sur la terrasse. J'ai une table mais elle est réservée. Pour s'asseoir dehors, il faut réserver. »
J'ai répondu que ce n'était pas un problème, que l'intérieur nous convenait très bien.
Le serveur (un homme) nous a ensuite gentiment conduits à notre table.
Concernant la nourriture : c'était simple, basique. Le menu proposait cinq plats principaux & quelques entrées. La portion de hamburger était petite mais correcte (18 $, sans frites - supplément de 4 $ - ni salade - supplément de 6 $).
J'ai pris le fish & chips : bonne portion, bonne sauce tartare.
J'ai commandé une bière, mais elle n'était pas très bonne : sans corps, trop légère.
Nous avons accidentellement renversé un verre ; personne n'est venu proposer de l'aide. Nous avons dû utiliser nos propres serviettes pour nettoyer.
Ensuite, plus personne ne venait pour la note. Nous l'avons demandée trois fois, sans résultat. Après environ 25 minutes d'attente, nous avons dû nous lever pour chercher quelqu'un. La même serveuse du début nous a dit : « Ah, désolée, je sers d'autres clients… »
Huit minutes plus tard, elle est finalement revenue avec l'addition.
Elle n'avait vraiment pas l'esprit de service. Son attitude a rendu notre expérience moins agréable, ce qui est dommage, car les autres serveurs étaient aimables & attentionnés.
Le restaurant est pourtant joli, mais l'accueil laisse à désirer.
Nous avons tout de même laissé un pourboire de 10 %, même si, honnêtement, pour son service, il aurait été justifié de ne rien laisse
In un ambiente naturale spettacolare un pub/taverna dove sentirsi a casa. Ottimo sia per un pranzo fuori in giornata sia per un fine settimana tranquillo all'insegna del buon cibo.
Lo scotch egg è tra i migliori che abbia mai mangiato e rivaleggia senza problemi con quelli assaggiati in Inghilterra esattamente come il fish n chips, forse la punta di diamante del menù, la cui porzione generosa soddisfa anche i più affamati e le salse fatte in casa lo complementano perfettamente. I prezzi sono commisurati alle porzioni dimostrando che oltre alla qualità c'è l'attenzione a garantire un'esperienza soddisfacente sotto ogni aspetto. Ottimo anche l'hamburger la cui carne era davvero saporita e si sposava col formaggio esaltandone il sapore senza coprirlo. Si sente che gli ingredienti sono tutti freschi e a km0 o comunque il più locali possibile. Per finire i dolci sono stati i migliori assaggiati in tutto il viaggio, tutti buonissimi (dimostrando ancora una volta la consistenza e affidabilità a 360 gradi della cucina) ma se dovessi proprio premiarne uno darei la medaglia d'oro allo sticky toffee pudding, stavamo esplodendo e ne abbiamo comunque preso un altro. Spero non lo tolgano mai dal menù. Le birre della casa anche sono ottime e la prossima volta con più tempo per smaltirle ne proveremo di più.
Finito il pranzo si può fare una bella passeggiata digestiva nel boschetto subito di fronte con una splendida vista sulle cascatelle circostanti dove c'è un ponticello che funge da punto panoramico e si possono fare delle belle foto.
Bel endroit chaleureux aux allures de pubs irlandais/écossais. La nourriture & le service sont excellents! Nous avons pris le Welsh Rarebit en entrée, & le fish & chips & les linguinis du moment en repas. Wow!

We had such a pleasant & peaceful stay at MacTaverne - I would definitely recommend it. Clean, cozy, & charming. The family running this place offers true hospitality & makes you feel right at home.
The pub experience is amazing. From a proper draft Guinness to simple & well-balanced cocktails, everything hit the mark. The fish & chips alone I would drive 1hr for, & the cheeseburger is a solid choice any day of the week. But the absolute must-try is their scotch egg - with a perfectly jammy yolk & served with a homemade HP-style sauce that I'd happily buy by the bottle. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert? Yes. Order it. You won't regret it.
To top it off, after have stayed the night, the small breakfast was a lovely touch & a pleasant surprise which included fresh coffee, tea & a few simple, but hearty plates made to order- the perfect way to start the day.
Excellent service. Burger & fish & chips trop bons!! On va revenir souvent. Nouvel endroit préféré à Val-David. Accueille chaleureux. Ambiance familiale mais aussi parfait pour souper/diner entre amis avec bonnes bières & cocktails. Les chambres trop jolies & propres. Déjeuner compris. Parfait.
Such a hidden gem in beautiful Val-David! A charming, family-owned spot right by the river. We sat on the terrace & loved every moment. The food is absolutely 5-star - highly recommend the house lager, fish & chips, cheeseburger, toffee pudding & clafoutis. Friendly service, cozy atmosphere, & an unbeatable setting. A must-visit!
Sommes allés pour le lunch sur la belle terrasse. Le service était top & les plats succulents! Nous avons partagé à deux une entrée tomates des champs & pêches de l'Ontario avec un assaisonnement sublime! Le fish & chips était excellent & mon conjoint a pris un steak qu'il a adoré & cuit comme il l'aimait! Très satisfait & une sortie resto à refaire!!! Merci à l'équipe de Mac Taverne 🙏👍
Super repas produit frais & très bien préparé. Fish & ships excellent ( poisson pas trop cuit & croustillant) ainsi que les frites. Super burger également. Je recommande fortement.
