fish(32) pub(31) steak(28) cocktail(26) val(24) recommend(22) burger(20) egg(19) drink(19) fish & chips(17) scotch(17) cozy(17)OK, we have wanted to take a dinner here for some time & last night we finally did & are we so glad we did. Super friendly service, amazing meals (all Scottish pub based) & a tranquil rushing river next door. Although the weather meant staying inside, the massive wrap-around patio would be fun on a warm evening. Some of the very best fish & chips (real malt vinegar to top it off), mushy peas & a juicy steak. But be warned...the salty fries are more than addicting!😉 Best vodka martini in town did not hurt either.
Incroyable.
This place couldn't have been more perfect.
It was incredibly easy to find, & check-in took all of two seconds. The property was spotless & had everything needed for a comfortable stay. We booked one night to escape the city & found ourselves in the beautiful Mactaverne Inn, a rustic hotel surrounded by nature, with a rushing river running alongside it, something straight out of a fairytale.
The staff were so welcoming & thoughtful throughout our stay, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.
We had dinner at the Mactaverne Pub, & the food was simple, comforting, & absolutely delicious. If you're visiting, I highly recommend trying the Scotch eggs-classic British fare done right.
Check-out was just as effortless, & we were treated to a lovely breakfast served in front of a scenic window overlooking the surroundings.
It's also located near the town centre, with plenty of charming shops & attractions within walking distance.
Everything about our stay was wonderful. We will definitely be back.
I stayed overnight after arriving for a trip around Quebec via MTL airport assuming I would not want to drive a long ways after flying. This place was really great! I arrived probably as their Saturday dinner rush was picking up, but I was still greeted promptly at the door & shown to my room. The process was very smooth & is was not confusing between the restaurant & the accommodations. The room was very clean, comfortable, & quiet, it was super cozy & relaxing, you can't hear anything from the restaurant or road outside. I slept very well & was really glad that I decided to stay there during my trip. Everyone there was courteous, kind & helpful, as well as accommodating with language.
Since I was staying, I took the opportunity to enjoy the restaurant of course & it was really wonderful. They had a really nice list of cocktails, but I drank some of the local beer since it was warm & I sat on the deck. The whole menu also looked great & I was having trouble deciding, but the smell of the burger was really tempting, so I decided to order that, it was a perfect choice to go with the beer. The bun especially was really good, it seemed homemade either in-house or somewhere local. It came with a ton of french fries too, I felt like I ate a lot of the fries, but still somehow had half a plate left.
If you're staying overnight, breakfast is also included, the breakfast was really good! You have options between something like yogurt & fruit or eggs, etc. There's coffee out as well, the coffee was very good, I think they offer espresso/latte drinks upon request, but I cannot remember for certain because I just enjoyed the coffee.
Additionally, the area is beautiful, it's right next to a river with some falls you can walk around. There's a little pavilion & several benches along the path that leads to a footbridge. This area is not connected to MacTaverne & there are several private cottages, but it is a nice little area to walk around along the public area.
Cheezburger 10/10, fish & chips 10/10, service 10/10!
Nous y retournerons régulièrement!
Amazing food fabulous staff! We love both & the atmosphere & best Guiness on tab outside Ireland!
