Fish soup with pumpkin based broth was very tasty. Mild & not spicy at all. You can add extra toppings as you wish but the base topping was good enough for me.View more
We found Mr. Fish on a recent trip to Montréal. Typical us, we travel to a new foreign city & immediately look to explore their Chinatown 😂. If I lived in Montréal, I could definitely see Mr. Fish becoming one of our go to staple restaurants. The space is small yet inviting & shares a building with a boba shop which we ordered while we ate. We knew we had a long day of traveling & exploring other restaurants so we wanted to keep our order light & decided to go with their signature sauerkraut fish stew with a side of shredded potatoes & smashed cucumbers. When the fish stew arrived the presentation was so charming & reminded us of eating in Taiwan. The rice they served was a heaping delicious mound & went perfectly with the spicy, sour & delicious soup. Service was kind & present, but not too overbearing. Much appreciated 🤙🏼. Definitely worth a visit!View more
Wifey wanted some Asian food so I searched Chinatown. Out of 3 restaurants, she picked this one. She was concerned if we would be able to get a table on a Sunday night, but that was not an issue. It wasn't very busy. The restaurant did not have a lot of dining tables either & it's connected to Yi Fang drinks. She had her eyes set on sauerkraut fish stew as that's their specialty. We picked the house special one & had it at regular spicy level. The server said you could increase the spiciness but can't really lower it much. We stuck with the regular spiciness. It was still kind of burning as we mildly suffered & enjoyed the dish. We only had one bowl of rice & shared it, but it was a big heaping bowl so it was enough. Probably would have been less spice burning if we had more rice. lol We also got a grilled squid skewer. It wasn't much to write home about, but it was okay. That's all we got because I had planned on going to another place for dinner #2. We would go back for the sauerkraut fish stew again so 4 stars!View more
I can make szechuan spicy fish at home myself, but oh boy do I still come to this place, they are on a whole other level. I cannot recommend this place enough.View more
In the heart of Montreal's vibrant Chinatown, my quest for culinary exploration led me to M. Poisson, a quaint restaurant known for its unique dining proposition. It shares its space with Yi Fang, offering an intriguing option to pair meals with bubble tea-a delightful touch for those keen on a diverse dining experience. However, accessing M. Poisson presents a bit of a challenge due to its location. Like many establishments in bustling urban areas, finding parking can be tricky. Moreover, the restaurant's entry is stair-only, posing an accessibility issue for individuals with mobility impairments. Despite these logistical hurdles, the dining experience at M. Poisson is nothing short of remarkable. On a day when the allure of fish soup eluded me, I opted for a custom order, substituting fish with beef in my soup, complemented by wood ear mushrooms & a side of rice. Even though the restaurant was not crowded, with just one other table occupied, it was clear that M. Poisson thrives on a brisk trade of takeout & delivery orders. Impressively, this did not detract from our service speed, as our meals arrived promptly. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the spicy sauerkraut soup base. Its masterful blend of spice & sourness was a palate pleaser, perfectly complementing the generous portions of beef & mushrooms. The pricing was the cherry on top, offering great value for such quality fare. M. Poisson has certainly earned its spot on my list of must-visit restaurants. Its blend of quality, value, & unique offerings, despite the minor inconveniences of location & access, make it a worthwhile location.View more
I regularly get takeout from here. Piping hot fish soup is especially nice on a cold winter day. Generous portion & fair prices. The Schezuan Peppercorn & the Spicy Sauerkraut are my go to. The only thing I would improve is the consistency. Sometimes the soup is lacking in seasoning, or isn't spicy enough. Other than that, great spot for comfort food.View more
