Cute place tucked away behind a bubble tea shop.
The sauerkraut fish stew was amazing. The fish was tender & super flavourful.
The sweet & sour cabbage was probably the best I've ever had.
Can't wait to come back & try the grilled fish!View more
We found Mr. Fish on a recent trip to Montréal. Typical us, we travel to a new foreign city & immediately look to explore their Chinatown 😂. If I lived in Montréal, I could definitely see Mr. Fish becoming one of our go to staple restaurants. The space is small yet inviting & shares a building with a boba shop which we ordered while we ate. We knew we had a long day of traveling & exploring other restaurants so we wanted to keep our order light & decided to go with their signature sauerkraut fish stew with a side of shredded potatoes & smashed cucumbers. When the fish stew arrived the presentation was so charming & reminded us of eating in Taiwan. The rice they served was a heaping delicious mound & went perfectly with the spicy, sour & delicious soup. Service was kind & present, but not too overbearing. Much appreciated 🤙🏼. Definitely worth a visit!View more
Wifey wanted some Asian food so I searched Chinatown. Out of 3 restaurants, she picked this one. She was concerned if we would be able to get a table on a Sunday night, but that was not an issue. It wasn't very busy. The restaurant did not have a lot of dining tables either & it's connected to Yi Fang drinks. She had her eyes set on sauerkraut fish stew as that's their specialty. We picked the house special one & had it at regular spicy level. The server said you could increase the spiciness but can't really lower it much. We stuck with the regular spiciness. It was still kind of burning as we mildly suffered & enjoyed the dish. We only had one bowl of rice & shared it, but it was a big heaping bowl so it was enough. Probably would have been less spice burning if we had more rice. lol We also got a grilled squid skewer. It wasn't much to write home about, but it was okay. That's all we got because I had planned on going to another place for dinner #2. We would go back for the sauerkraut fish stew again so 4 stars!View more
Their fish stew is excellent. I got the one with Sichuan peppers & pickled veggies. I came here twice while I was in Montréal for a few days, & I think that says a lot.View more
I didn't expect the tomato fish stew to be this good. It's sooo good with rice :)View more
been meaning to try this place for a while now & it did not disappoint. the house sauerkraut fish stew is so comforting with the super tender fish & flavourful soup. crispy pork is also well seasoned & very crispy (& honestly amazing portion for $10). love the sauce for the chicken & clam stir fry (ps the chicken comes with the bones for those who dont like that). the squid skewers are also good. was $80 total for everything so honestly very worth. could easily do $20 per person hereView more

The fish stew is what I think of when I think authentic Chinese cuisine.View more
Sadly not great. I've only tried it once but their broth & spice usage is weak. The broth for the gain stew tastes like mediocre canned chicken broth with a lot of gelatin or starch added to give body. However, there is little flavor. The la dominates while there is little ma, which means there's a decent amount of spice but very little numbing flavor, or any other spice or herb flavor. Additionally, the portions are extremely small, making this place very expensive. Aunt Dai's is a way better option for this cuisine, at least as of a few years ago. To give you a concrete idea, the bowls are only slightly larger than a standard western cereal bowl. They are not family style portions.View more
