Every time I eat at L'Orignal, I am blown away. It is quite possibly my favourite restaurant in the city at this point. From the amazing food, to the outstanding service, to the cozy decor, this place always delivers. Michael & his staff are always on-point -- friendly, warm, & fast.
I'm not the kind of person to care much for specials, as I typically go with what I know I already love. However, at L'Orignal, the specials always pique my interest, so we usually get one with our order. They're always stellar.
L'Orignal is perfect for large groups, a small family gathering, & even for date night. I can't wait to come back soon!
If you are a Montrealer & haven't been here yet, you are truly missing out.
We rang in the New Year at Restaurant L'Original, & it was truly a spectacular night. The service was impeccable, the food absolutely phenomenal, & the wine selection far exceeded our expectations. This quaint, unassuming restaurant completely won our hearts. We believe we were the only'tourists' there, which made the evening even more special-just us & wonderful locals, all savoring a memorable night together.
Highly recommend for a cozy dinner. We shared the mushroom toast, Brussels sprouts, tagliatelle, salmon special, & the sticky toffee. Dishes are on the smaller side but the flavours & quality outweigh the size. Service was fantastic, too.
We had an absolutely wonderful dining experience! I ordered the braised beef cheek & it was incredibly tender, full of flavor, & cooked to perfection. My husband had the bison tomahawk & he was genuinely amazed - easily one of the best meals he's had in a long time.
The place itself is very cozy, almost like a warm & inviting chalet, which made the whole evening feel even more special.
To top it all off, the chef came by our table to say hi, & he was truly awesome & friendly, passionate, & clearly proud of his craft.
Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for exceptional food, a cozy atmosphere, & a memorable experience!
Ate here tonight, every dish was amazing!
Oysters, sweetbreads, bone marrow, halibut special.
Highly recommend! Excellent service
Wonderful dinner here - our favorite during our stay in Montreal. The restaurant itself is tucked away off a quiet street & nicely designed. It felt like a nice change from some of the more touristy spots. The service was attentive & welcoming. & the food was delicious. We had the kale salad, marrow, burrata, & two outstanding specials. We'll be back next time we are in the city.
Exceptional service & above all the specials. Everything was very tasty & presentation incredibly exotic. Chef Guille met with us during the stay so that we could find out what ingredients made his meals so special. Will go back every time we'll get near Old Port in Montreal.
All the specials are amazing. Highly recommend, every time is better than before.
A Canadian French original, hence the name! Very cozy interior, with a simple, rich & mouthwatering menu! Had the smoked Bone Marrow as an app, the Bison Burger & from the daily specials a shepherd pie, to share. Damn! Every single dish so good! I was reluctant about the Bison Burger & it beats some of the best beef burger I've had! The shepherds pie, was rich yet light...cheesy 🤤 & DELICIOUS!!! Finally, the Bone Marrow was great very yummy & paired with the right ingredients that cut through the richness.
Too bad I finished all the food before I even got to write the review!!!! Food was great! The bartender was awesome! The service was top-notch. We'll definitely come back again!! Always ask them for special/catch of the day. They are always a hit!
Our new favourite! Kat & I loved everything from the warm & cozy wood cabin ambiance to the 80s music. The food was incredible, with every mouthful a delight. Service was friendly, accommodating, & attentive. Drinks (cocktails around $15) were excellent. It's quieter before 7:30 & the entrance is a bit off the beaten path (I did not see if there's an alternative, wheelchair-accessible entrance). We walked 9km in the downtown/old Montreal core, looking for a decent place to have dinner, & ironically, this one was just behind our hotel. Like, literally right behind it. We both chose from the daily specials. Kat had the sea bass, which had a parsnip puree & seafood chowder bed. It was fantastic & she loved every bite. I had the duck with pumpkin puree & a fantastic mole sauce. Dessert was an incredible sticky toffee pudding & a mousse that Kat was very cagey about sharing, it was that good. With the two entrees & desserts, a glass of wine & four cocktails, dinner came to a little over CDN$200. Service was perfectly attentive, with water being constantly refilled, empty glasses & plates taken promptly, & friendliness as warm as the ambiance. It's our new must go-to in Montreal.
Our dinner here was amazing. We started with the Oysters which were outstanding & very unique, was excited to try some from PEI as we rarely see them in New England. We each had specials for our mains & they were also very good & thoughtfully executed. Service was fantastic! We always try to visit new places when we are in Montreal but it will be hard not to stop back in to L'Original when we come back next year.
Absolutely delightful place. Exceptional food, exceptional service, exceptional atmosphere. I'd go back in a heartbeat! The truffle poutine was special, the beef medialions were very tender, & the sticky toffee pudding was delish!
We had a fantastic dinner consisting of several amaretto sours (delicious) & 3 appetizers - bacalao matesh (evening special), smoked bone marrow & the chicken liver parfait. Absolutely fantastic food.
The atmosphere was relaxed & casual, but certainly a place to get dressed up. The wait staff were friendly & welcoming. They were very knowledgeable about the specials & regular menu.
We will be back on our next visit to Montreal. Thanks for a great evening! M & L
Food was good but the service was odd. A little pricey for portions & lack of accommodations. *check the bill before paying-
Had oysters, beef tartare, kale salad, beef tag, bison burger, salmon special & 2 desserts. Everything was great & tasted as good as could be expected without surprises (good or bad), so pretty straight forward. The beef tartare was a little tough & the bison burger was a little dry. Burger was sent back the first time but 2nd time was much better. Salmon special was great. Desserts were both good but enjoyed the pudding the most.
We had a reservation & not sure if it was because we were American or that we had our 2 kids with us but had service reminiscent of a diner in Brooklyn I used to go to. Friendly if you're easy but otherwise rushed & not willing to make any accommodations. We really didnt ask for much & we spent $350 with 4 people, even with 2 kids. The shady part was the extra 2 glasses of wine slipped on the bill. I'll never know for sure if it was an accident or not but it felt like she tried to get one by with how she handled the bill.
In conclusion, food was good, pretty cool atmosphere but a little pricey for the overall experience.
