The food is very good, but not special enough to justify rushing us out the door at the 2-hour time limit. We didn't take our time to order, we didn't waste any time eating, but when it was time for dessert, we were informed that there were only 6 minutes left to eat. We were given the bill & our coats before our desserts arrived.
Pretty tacky to do that, given the price.
After tip, my bill was $390 (there were 2 of us). We were upsold on a couple of items, but were happy to try anything on the menu, given the reputation of the owner. It's too bad then, that the food didn't feel very special. It just doesn't stand out from the rest of the pack in this city.
If you're going to upsell the client, & if your food is middle-tier (compared to the other top-end, similarly priced restaurants in this city), then the least you can do is give us an extra 30 minutes to finish our dessert.
If you're making $100 to $200 per head, & your restaurant is jam packed, you can afford to give the client 2.5 hours instead of 2. That's all I'm sayin.
Not only was the food delicious, the service was smart & friendly with out being condescending. The cocktails were great, the ambiance cool & comfortable & by comparison to everything else these days I felt like it was priced very reasonably. Really impressed with this restaurant
Honnêtement nous avions beaucoup d'attente pour cette soirée... le resto est cute... mais nous avons été reçus avec un'vous devez quitter pour 20h', j ai attendu 15min avant de faire signe pour avoir un apéro, une fois que mes enfants sont arrivés on nous a répété qu'on devait quitter pour 20h expliqué le menu pour commander rush, les plats étaient vraiment ordinaires... manque de goût, le tartare était sec, le porc nous l'avons retourné car il n'était pas cuit & froid, je suis allergiques aux champignons nous l'avions spécifié nous avons reçu le plat de pâtes avec des champignons, retourne le tout, le service était ordinaire. Bref, nous sommes sortis de là avec une facture de plus de 400$ pour 3 en nous sentant pressés de quitter & une nourriture plus qu'ordinaire. Nous ne retournerons pas.
An absolute jewel in Montreal. Every item we tried was creative, delicious & uncompromising in quality. The staff is supremely attentive & welcoming. From beginning to end, every detail made the experience feel special & comfortable. It was our best dining experience in Montreal & we wish the team much success!
Asses déçu par ce restaurant. La nourriture n'était pas particulièrement impressionnante ou savoureuse. Il y avait quelques erreurs de préparation très basiques, notamment une quantité ridicule de sable dans les palourdes. Sinon une manque de goût en général. La sélection de vins était banale. Le service, cependant, était excellent & attentionné. Dans l'ensemble, l'expérience n'a pas été très impressionnant.
Expérience parfaite. Nous étions assis au bar & le service a été excellent du début à la fin. Chacun des plats était raffiné & gastronomique. Définitivement un restaurant à mettre sur votre liste à essayer & retourner.
Violon est le genre d'établissement auquel on voudrait vraiment donner 5/5, mais ce n'est simplement pas possible si on veut être juste. Le décor est superbe & le service également. La nourriture quant à elle n'est que bonne: aucun plat n'est mauvais, mais aucun plat n'est véritablement mémorable. Pour $275 à deux personnes (2 entrées, 2 plats, 1 accompagnement, 1 verre de vin, 1 cocktail), on aurait souhaité avoir plus que 2h (le resto prévient effectivement que les services sont limités à 2h). Il fut impossible de prendre dessert / café / apéro car on s'est fait aviser que l'on devait quitter vu que notre temps s'était écoulé. Ce pourrait être un 5/5 si les plats étaient plus recherchés vu le prix ($21 pour une laitue - oui, juste une laitue - c'est un peu osé) & si le temps accordé aux réservations était plutôt 2h30 que 2h00. Bon courage Violon, vous n'êtes pas loin d'une note parfaite! Ceux qui cherchent similaire mais mieux: allez essayer Beba.
Le Violon - a wonderful gastronomique experience! Chapeau to the chefs, especially Chef Mitch who passionately shared with us (table of 8) the "behind the scene experience" for each course - truly appreciated Chef Mitch! An innovative menu - dishes curated mainly from locally sourced ingredients, with a multi-cultural touch, a wonderful experience in a chique, without being pretentious, environment. Highly recommended!
