Welcome to Le Vieux Dublin, Montréal's oldest Irish Pub. Located in the downtown core, the “Old Dublin” offers two bars, a seriously impressive list of imported and domestic beers on tap, an expansive food menu featuring award-winning burgers (some say they're the best in town), one of the best scotch lists on this side of the Atlantic and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere that has kept customers coming back for decades.
Le Vieux Dublin Pub & Restaurant is described as a warm, authentic Irish pub in Montreal with a strong focus on classic drinks like Guinness and a solid draft selection, while live music and a convivial crowd help create a quintessential pub vibe. The staff is generally friendly and attentive, contributing to many memorable experiences, though service can be uneven and a few orders may be forgotten or delayed. Food receives mixed notes, with some dishes praised for flavor and others described as bland or limited by ingredients, and some reviewers wish for a broader Irish beer and whisky selection. Overall, it remains a popular, lively spot for a pint and socializing, with great atmosphere and consistent highs in drink quality, but some visits highlight room for kitchen variety and service consistency.
I wanted to share my disappointment regarding the experience my group & I had at your pub today during the game.
Before coming, I called to ask about reservations & was told that while reservations were accepted, it would be difficult to find space on a game day & that walk-ins were welcome. That was completely fair, so we arrived as walk-in customers.
We were seated & began ordering drinks & food while waiting for another couple to join us. We reassured our waiter multiple times that they were on their way. Despite this, the waiter later approached us & told us he needed to take one of our tables. When we explained again that the rest of our group was arriving shortly, he responded very rudely & said he'didn't care' & needed the tables.
What made the situation even more frustrating was that there were multiple empty tables around us during the entire time we were there, including tables apparently being'held' that remained unused for over an hour. When I politely asked why those spaces could not be used instead, the waiter responded,'They're regulars.'
I found that comment extremely inappropriate. As paying customers who were actively ordering food & drinks, we should not have been made to feel less important simply because we were not'regulars.' To make matters worse, another server I approached for assistance appeared visibly annoyed & rolled her eyes at me when I tried to explain the situation.
The entire experience felt dismissive, unwelcoming, & incredibly unprofessional. I understand that game days are busy & stressful, but there is still a standard of customer service & respect that should be maintained. Unfortunately, my friends & I left feeling uncomfortable & unwelcome, & I would not feel confident recommending your establishment to others based on this experience.
Thankfully, we ended up going to Dunn's afterward, where the staff was extremely kind, welcoming, & professional. The food, ambiance, & overall service completely turned our night around despite the very poor start we experienced at your establishment.
For people working in hospitality & depending on customer service & tips, I strongly encourage your staff to do better when it comes to treating customers with basic respect & professionalism.
Thank you!
EDIT AFTER OWNER RESPONSE:
There was no line-up at the door & many empty tables!!!!! Would be a great idea to notify guests prior to or upon arrival of your policy!
Do better ! Kindness is free & should be GUARANTEED in the service industry.
I was much more than just'inconvenienced'. I was spoken down to & disrespected.

I've been here a few times now, & it has quickly become one of my go to spots when I want a fun, relaxed night out. The Irish pub vibe is honestly such a big part of what makes this place special. It feels lively but still comfortable, the kind of place where you can hang out for a while & actually enjoy yourself.
The service has always stood out to me. Every time I've gone, the staff has been super friendly, fast, & really on top of things. The bartender especially was amazing the last time I went. I decided to switch it up from my usual cider & try a cocktail, & I went with a Fuzzy Navel. It's a simple mix of peach schnapps & orange juice, but it was made perfectly & tasted so balanced. You can tell they know what they're doing behind the bar.
The waitress was also incredibly attentive & kind, always checking in at the right moments without it feeling too much. It just made the whole experience feel easy & welcoming. The place itself is consistently clean, which I really appreciate, especially for a busy bar.
Another thing I noticed is how well they handle any difficult situations. If there are ever any rough customers, the staff deals with it quickly & professionally, & the vibe goes right back to normal without it becoming a whole thing.
Overall, it's just a really solid spot. Great drinks, great service, great atmosphere. I'll definitely keep coming back & recommending it to friends in the area.
You know how some places, the servers won't leave you alone? That will NOT happen here. I was here for an hour. I got one pint. Found my own menu. I wanted to order food but was entirely ignored. Eventually gave up, paid for my beer & left 🤷🏼?♂?
Edited to respond to the pub's question: I was there 15 April around 6pm. No idea who my server was. An older lady brought me my beer. I sat at the bar. Eventually flagged down a dark -haired guy to get my bill.

Went in for a single beer & the bartender tries to make me feel bad for not tipping her. She said she doesn't earn enough so no tip is not appreciated, as if it's my responsibility to pay her wage. Extremely rude & entitled, would never go back again
The Old Dublin is a required stop for me as soon as I arrive in Montreal from Ottawa. My girl Arlene behind the bar always knows what I need - a tall crispy Guinness & to keep them coming. By far the best Guinness in all of Montreal. The vibe in the Old Dublin is the perfect quintessential Irish pub outside of Ireland. The clientele are fun & laid back, even after a long day at work. It is always a 10 star experience here! You know we will be back, Arlene! Looking forward to seeing you again!

Was looking into trying this pub for the first time, pretty terrible welcome, nobody comes to say hi or anything about seating us or being full at the moment.
We ended up asking the lady at the bar & she almost pushed one of us out of her way & then finally told us that everything was reserved.
She didn't offer to take our names or provide an estimate wait time she told us to go away'she is the bouncer'.
Good work ma'am enjoy your starry review I will not come back so there's no chances for it to change.
