Le Surcouf is a welcoming French restaurant established in a Victorian home for over 45 years now. Dominique and the chef Serge will be pleased to help you discover the fine French classic cuisine. In the fall the restaurant offers a special game menu in addition to their regular table d'hôte that you create yourself.
Reviews consistently celebrate Le Surcouf for superb traditional French cuisine, artful presentation, and a warm, intimate atmosphere inside an old house with a fireplace that makes dining feel special. Service is described as professional, attentive, and friendly, with knowledgeable staff guiding wine choices and accommodating dietary needs including gluten free options. Many describe it as a West Island gem and a prime spot for anniversaries, family gatherings, and memorable evenings, offering both a refined carte and a reasonably priced Bistro menu. Decor and ambiance receive frequent praise, with quiet, cozy dining rooms, local art, and a welcoming feel that invites lingering. While a few reviews note busier nights can bring noise or slower pacing, the overall consensus is that Le Surcouf delivers consistently high quality, generous portions, and thoughtful touches that keep guests returning. Overall, guests emphasize that the combination of cuisine, service, and setting makes Le Surcouf one of the standout French dining experiences in the area.
Le Surcouf is our favourite restaurant. My husband says it reminds him of restaurants when we lived in London: Authentic French restaurants.
We always enjoy the food. My daughter has Celiac Disease & their menu is sensitive to gluten free food. Its her favourite restaurant too.
The wine list is extensive & well-priced. We had a wine at Le Surcouf from the vineyard where our son was on honeymoon. We also enjoy their Loire & South African wines.
Le Surcouf is our favourite restaurant in the West Island of Montreal. Very quaint & elegant. Owner & staff, food, ambience - everything is TOPs. Fabulous French cuisine with innovative delicious dishes. Lots of variety. Even the bathrooms are quaint & super clean. We highly recommend this restaurant.
All is there! We love to try French cuisine restaurants & my first choice is always at Le Surcouf. Quality price is hard to beat. Wine list is from a private reserve & prices are very reasonable. They have gluten free bread, flour etc no need to worry if you are celiac of simply intolerant to weat. reservations were easy would recommend to make them a few days before as the restaurant is always packed.
Classic French cuisine in a cozy atmosphere. Best restaurant in the West Island...hands down! Veal kidneys in a Dijon sauce are highly recommended, as is the beef tar-tar.

Hurry! IF you haven't returned in 20 years, please do it now! This mainstay of Ste Anne de Bellevue has been tastefully updated & their menu is fine French cuisine. The service matches the cuisine! Great weekly specials too! Impressive but not overwhelming wine list.
Surcouf is an excellent family run restaurant. Very good French fresh cuisine.service is very good & courteous. We visite for very long time. Regularly. We love it.
Still one of our favourite restaurants! Lately tried the soup & hors d'oeuvres du jour, the veal & bavette mains, & crepes Suzette for dessert - all excellent, as was the service. The regular menu is mainly traditional French, but the daily specials usually give you a chance to try something different.
Classic French cuisine in beautiful room, if one can get the room. Covid precautions, unfortunately marred this setting with plastic transparent curtains etc. The cuisine was well done & not too salted, when unfortunately over salting has become the fashion these days. Could use a dress code, however. Persons sporting a baseball cap, grungy tee-shirt & sweat pants detract from the overall impression of the restaurant.

Lovely evening on a busy night. Both service & food good to very good. Staff enthusiastic & try hard given the circumstances. Reminiscent of what a good little French restaurant used to be like. We felt very comfortable & satisfied & look forward to going back
One of the best restaurants in the West Island. The food is always spectacular, service is professional & courteous, & Dominique is so friendly & genuinely happy that you are there. A must go-to restaurant for those who love traditional French cuisine.
Great ambiance, great service, great food. If you love classic French cooking, this is definitely the place to go. Veal kidneys in Dijon sauce are amazing!
The kitchen produces very good classic French style food, with some local inspiration, at a fair price. The wine list is solid, with interesting choices at various price levels, with many private imports - not the "usual suspects". The service is attentive & professional. I have eaten at Le Surcouf many times over the past 20 years, & have never been disappointed.
