Review Summary

Across reviews, Le Petit Sao is seen as a cozy, affordable Vietnamese spot with friendly staff, generous portions, and a mix of crowd pleasing dishes like pho, banh mi, and fresh rolls, earning praise for flavorful food and a welcoming vibe. The experience is described as quick and attentive, with many noting good value for the money and consistent quality that keeps customers returning for the friendly atmosphere. Some details show room for improvement, including occasional coriander requests not being respected, a missing drink, and occasional gaps in order accuracy, though the management has engaged with customers and offered solutions. All in all, Le Petit Sao is regarded as a dependable casual option in Montreal for a satisfying Vietnamese meal, balancing authenticity with a modern, approachable vibe.

I'm writing this review while I'm still sitting in the restaurant because the meal I just had was THAT GOOD! Please do yourself a favour & come eat here for a delicious Vietnamese meal!

Nothing Vietnamese about the food. Very bland. Tasteless. Service was rather slow. The iced coffee tasted like milk mixed with sugar.

It is one of the best Vietnamese restaurant in montreal. The banh mi cha is really tasty with right amount of spicy. Their chicken is juicy & tasty

Service is perfect but the food is not for Vietnamese people 🥲

Definitely the decor is by a genZ. A short menu but this means the food is fresh. However, nothing Vietnamese came out of that restaurant. This is a viet restaurant with Westerners adjustments. P.s. small bowl is literally a small baby bowl of noodles.

This might be the worst tasting restaurant I have ever tried in Montreal. The chicken pho soup is way too salty, & it even tastes bitter. The summer drink "limo jade" tastes like rotten coconut. & they don't have AC inside. It's not authentic Vietnamese food.

Restaurant Review: Le Petit Sao in Old Montreal As a visitor with limited knowledge of French, I was delighted to find that Le Petit Sao in Old Montreal offers both French & English menus. This thoughtful touch made the dining experience more accessible & enjoyable, while I waited for my order. Dishes Ordered: Mama Thi Nems: These crispy Vietnamese spring rolls were a perfect start to the meal. They were filled with a flavorful mixture of ingredients, providing a delightful crunch with every bite. Chicken Bun Bowls: This dish was a delightful mix of grilled chicken, fresh vegetables, & vermicelli noodles, all brought together with a light & tangy sauce. The flavors were well-balanced, making each bite a refreshing experience. Grilled Chicken Pho Soup: Known for being tricky to execute as take-out, Le Petit Sao's Pho was a pleasant surprise. The broth was rich & aromatic, & the grilled chicken added a lovely depth of flavor. Packaging & Take-Out Experience: Le Petit Sao deserves high praise for their take-out service. The packaging was exceptionally well-thought-out & maintained the quality of the food. The Pho, in particular, was packaged to preserve the integrity of the broth, noodles, & fresh herbs, ensuring that it tasted as good as it would if served in the restaurant. Overall, Le Petit Sao in Old Montreal excels in providing delicious Vietnamese cuisine with a take-out service that truly stands out. For those who are not fluent in French, the availability of an English menu is a significant plus. This restaurant is a must-visit for both locals & tourists seeking a great Vietnamese dining experience.

Bright, cheery, very busy spot for a quick lunch. Staff were lovely. (You order at counter & they deliver to table.) Food was good. Not the tastiest Vietnamese I've had, but pretty good & certainly quick. The iced coffee is nice & strong - really hit the spot.

This is a hidden gem in Montreal, espcially in the Old-Port. They are serving traditionnal vietnamese dishes, with a modern twist, & that is exactly why I'm going back for more! Only 7 min walk from Place-d'Armes metro station, the place is beautiful, nice decor & color. Love the staff! Super friendly & helpful. I took : Pandan Ca Phe Sua Da (vietnamese iced coffee with Pandan) Minty Limo (non alchoholic Mojito) Nems from Mama Thi (10/10!!) Grilled Chicken Pho Curry Coco chicken bowl (10/10!) I had a smile on my face for each bite. I can't wait to go back & try their Banh Mis & Bun bowls. P.S. If possible, go there during lunch time (including the weekends), you'll have a spot to seat & fast & quality service!

Underwhelmed by the drinks. Some of the food was overcooked. Location is great. If you have never vietnamese, you would like it, but there is better. This is not a return try for us.
