Review Summary

Reviews paint Le Kahéra as a flavorful, inviting spot with a mix of Egyptian-inspired and fusion dishes, where bowls and sandwiches like ful, shawarma bowls, shish poulet, and pita shish are praised for being hearty, aromatic, and well seasoned, with vegan options and good value noted by many. The cafe atmosphere is described as warm and chill, with friendly staff by some and occasional rushed or unfriendly service during busy periods noted by others. Some visitors expected a more authentic Egyptian experience and felt the menu leans toward fusion rather than traditional fare; koshari is not always available and hawawshi can feel overpriced, with a few remarks about portions like tiny bread servings. On the positive side, standout items such as ful pita, baklava, and a cardamom latte receive praise, along with desserts, allergy-friendly or healthy options, and a generally welcoming ambiance. Overall Le Kahéra is seen as a worthwhile stop with generous portions, a diverse menu, and a cozy vibe, though a few notes about authenticity, consistency, and seasonal availability could enhance the experience.

im egyptian & i came here expecting an authentic egyptian experience, given the name, kahera. i understand its a fusion concept but nothing about my visit made me feel like home. its more of a progressive style, so keep that in mind. the price for one howowshi sandwich was a bit outrageous, $14+tax. the taste wasnt bad but it definitely isnt worth that pricetag for only one sandwich & no sides. it was also disappointing that i went for their koshari & was told they only serve it in the winter, they should make that clear on socials/website. overall disappointed in my visit but every establishment has their audience

Cute little Egyptian Cafe. The owners are amazing & so many choices of local beer & wine.
Food is excellent. Def need to pass by if you're in the area.

I'm Egyptian, so my review is based on authenticity first,
The Ful: It has absolutely no relation to any authentic Egyptian Ful recipe, it was good, very good, but not Egyptian.
Beed (Eggs) Bastirma, too much western additions, 2.5/5
Hawawshi, very good, taste 4/5, authenticity: 3/5
Bread: Tiny, you'd need at least two. I was served a tiny piece of bread.
Overall experience was not bad, but I don't think I'll come back.
If you're not Egyptian though, you'll be very satisfied. Because you wouldn't tell the difference. 😅

I was a bit excited when I found out about this place online & decided to go right away since I do miss Egyptian food but I got really disappointed from the way I was treated - totally unfriendly staff - maybe because I arrived 6:30 while they close by 7. If it is late, I don't mind getting told that the kitchen is closed like any restaurant & would walk away normally. But instead I got treated in a stressing way like that made me feel unwelcome & mistreated that got me disappointed a lot which made me decide to never visit this place again.
To be honest, the chef was friendly & nice person - the food I would give it 4/5.
Hope this kind of issues not to be repeated with other customers as this place has a good potential.
Note my order was a takeout.

Really cute dep+eatery. Loved everything we had - Ful, Hawawshi, & the shakshuka, Egyptian style. Highly recommended

Egyptian street food for the win. Really delicious food, awesome service, & great ambiance here. I ordered the kul as it was the most vegetarian friendly. It was a huge portion bowl that I could've had a two meals. It came with seasoned beans, crunchy vegetables & ab egg with pita in the side. Overall it tasted really fresh & the price was right just CAD$11. When I got home I added some more protein to it. It was so dang good! They also had this cool coffee they were selling that had smells of strawberries & candy like Hi Chew but has no affiliation with the brand. Really interesting.

Le Kahera, nestled near Jean Talon Market in Montreal, offers a vibrant taste of Egyptian street food. The atmosphere exudes warmth & charm, creating a welcoming space for diners. The food, with its authentic flavors & hearty offerings, is a highlight of the experience. But what truly sets Le Kahera apart is the friendly & attentive service provided by the staff. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, you're sure to feel right at home at Le Kahera. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a taste of Egypt in the heart of Montreal.
