Review Summary

Le Café Big Trouble is widely celebrated as a charming, eclectic hidden gem in Montreal, known for its warm atmosphere, whimsical decor, and consistently high-quality brunch offerings. Guests frequently praise the homemade sourdough bread, generous portion sizes, and stand-out menu items like the fluffy ricotta pancakes and flavorful breakfast burritos. While the experience is often described as fun and welcoming, with an upbeat vibe and friendly staff, some visitors have noted that service can occasionally be slow during busy periods and that the music volume is sometimes loud, making it a lively spot best suited for those who enjoy a bustling, relaxed neighborhood environment.

Terrible service, mediocre food. Waited over 40 minutes of waiting with no one checking in. They served ooooold bread for their turkey sandwich, my jaw actually hurt trying to bite it. We couldn't even finish the sandwich. The food was so mediocre it hurt to pay for it. They charge extra to add a syrup to their coffee but do not advertise that on their menu at all. A couple even canceled their order cause they had been waiting for so long & honestly we should've done the same.

The service was so bad for the first time going to a restaurant we had to ponder if we should even tip.

Also, the restaurant was hot. People had to use their menus to fan themselves.

Do not come here, waste of money.

Le Café Big Trouble is a true gem on Saint-Denis! We were immediately impressed by the charming décor, warm atmosphere, & genuinely friendly service.

The café is run by owners Madelene & Sergio. Originally from B.C., Madelene brings her passion for delicious food into the kitchen, while Sergio creates a welcoming experience at the front of the house. If you sit at the counter, the open-kitchen design lets you watch the magic happen!

We tried the tomato toast, pancakes, & burrito, & everything was outstanding. The flavours & textures were truly to die for-fresh, creative, & beautifully prepared.

A must-visit in Montreal. We will definitely be back!

Very welcoming & pleasant cafe. Food was great (avocado toast, salmon gravlax, orange juice). Drip coffee was'mid diner' unfortunately. Next time I'd trip an espresso drink instead. & there will be a next time because this place is great!

Indeed the pancakes were very nice, I tried some of my girlfriends.
I had a breakfast burrito, which was pretty good. With the addition of bacon.
Good coffee.
I liked the music when we were there, some decent hip hop.
Not to everyone's taste though

Fantastic breakfast/lunch, in a cool & relaxed atmosphere, good old music playing too. The lemon ricotta on the tomato sandwich was delicious, so were the blueberry pancakes. The toast, breakfast burrito (lots of scrambled egg & potatoes in it) & granola bowl were also excellent, & everything was homemade & more tasty than in most North American breakfast restaurants. I highly recommend this place.
