Since 1999, the restaurant LA PRUNELLE is a bring your wine that imposes itself on the popular Duluth in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal. The chef conveys her passion in each of her dishes, working with products of Quebec dotted with Mediterranean accents. Respecting both the producers of the province and seasonal changes, the menu leads us into an adventure filled with happy detours. One feels immediately at home in this lively and friendly restaurant, overseen by Annie the co-owner and her team. The place is a beautiful and charming space, with large windows that open completely in the summer. One thing is certain, LA PRUNELLE is a very good value for money and is surely one of the finest dining experiences on the Plateau Mont-Royal.
Reviews describe La Prunelle as a warm, intimate French spot in the Plateau with excellent service and consistently delicious dishes. The menu features tartare de boeuf, magret de canard, ris de veau, octopus, and creme brulee, with many noting refined technique, appealing presentation and thoughtful flavor combinations. The atmosphere is cozy and charming, with soft lighting, a lively street view and a pleasant terrace in summer. Bring your own wine is a popular feature, offering good value for both date nights and small gatherings. Some critics note occasional drawbacks such as fries or certain dishes being too salty, or service slowing a bit when the restaurant is busy, and the space can get loud. Service is repeatedly praised as impeccable, attentive, and professional, with staff making guests feel cared for. Repeat visits are common, with guests praising consistency, warmth and quality ingredients. Overall, La Prunelle is seen as a standout neighborhood gem for classic, well executed French cuisine in Montreal, delivering memorable evenings and a welcoming atmosphere.
My family & I came here by chance & few days ago. We were recommended to come here by another french restaurant that was undergoing a health inspection when we went to visit (so they couldn't take us). Our experience here did not disappoint. When we arrived a nice lady greeted us, but because of her limited english, she asked another server to help us. He let us know that they could serve us, but it could only be their set menu since they were doing MTL à table (feels kinda like winterlicious) that night. We didn't mind so they seated us,& we ordered from their set menu including available a la carte items for the kids. The food was amazing, each dish was carefully crafted & delicious, even my picky kids kept asking for more. We had beef tartare as our first course, & it was great & had the right amount of chew & flabor. Their duck confit was super crispy & falvorful, kids ate almost my entire plate plus some from my husband's plate. Dessert was also on point. Cheesecake was light & fluffy (not like usual NY cheesecakes) & not too sweet, & the squash cake had the smount of sweetness snd flavor too, not dense at all. Kids devoured everything when I looked away for a minute. Service was great, they were a full house that night & BYOW, so they were quite busy. Their service was just the right amount despite how busy they were. We will definitely go back next time we do a road trip to Montréal & try their larger menu. I actually didn't read their reviews prior to our visit since it was a visit by chance, & I noticed a lot of people complaining about slow service/no service & food taking a long time. So I just wanted to take the time to state that service may be slow at times, but we also have to consider that they have a lot of tables to serve, & only two servers, so give them a bit of grace. When they do come, they are very nice, attentive & helpful, I felt the experience was great, because the service was not too over & it's not like they forgot about us, they're just busy, & that's ok. & as for the food taking a long time? I don't really agree with that. In French cuisine we should appreciate the food in front of us one dish at a time, with a small break in-between. This restaurant did exactly that. After each dish, after a fairly short wait, the next dish was served to us, despite how busy it was, & the temperature was always just right. Overall, we had a great experience here & the kids asked to go back the next day, but we had a long drive home, so we couldn't go. But we will definitely be back the next time we are in the city. Service & food was both great. It does get a little loud when it's a full-house, but I think it would be a great place for friends to catch up with great food & drinks. Parking is not the best on this street, but there's a paid parking ($15) nearby, so you can park there then walk over, or attempt to park on the street (might be easier to park on the street when there's less snow). Highly recommend coming here your next visit!

The dining room is a perfect space, with the windows open allowing the summer breezes coming down from the mountain down Duluth. We were enjoying the evening from the first moment.
We saw reviews saying the salmon tartare was bland but it wasn't. The ris de veau was crispy & delicious. We also had the octopus & a creme brulee. We've been here time & time again. The point of this place is to enjoy yourselves in a classic but casual dining room, & if you can't do that at a BYOW place nothing will satisfy you. The couple who run it do their best to give a great experience. Roll with it & you'll have a great time.
One of our favourite spots in the city! We've returned many times & it never disappoints. The atmosphere is chic yet welcoming, with a gorgeous view of the lively street through the large windowfront - such a unique setting.
It's a BYOW French restaurant, which we love, & the food is always excellent. On our last visit, I had the salmon tartare with fries & salad - beautifully plated & delicious - & my boyfriend really enjoyed his classic steak frites. The menu has something for everyone, & the cooking is consistently top-notch.
The service is always professional & attentive without being overbearing. It's clear this place has been around for years for a reason - quality across the board. Highly recommend for a date night or a special meal with friends.

Table de 4, entrées partagées.
Beautiful outside dining with good service. Two disappointments. Firstly, the tuna tartare tasted fishy, either due not fresh or frozen & thawed. The second was the steak could bot be ordered blue nor rare. The taste was good, as was its sauce but disappointing not being able to order the desired preparation.
I don't get it. The food is awful. Eg, we had an arctic char tartare that had zero flavor. The beef tartare was slightly better. The octopus was insipid. The salad came from a pizza hut buffet. The fries were soggy. Service was pleasant, but haphazard & disorganized.
The food & ambience is incredible here &, it being a bring your own wine place, makes it that much better. You can go to a dozen other restos that serve oysters but the mignonette at la Prunelle is second to none. I always start with a dozen. I've never brought someone here who did not thoroughly enjoy themselves. Loved the octopus & the tartares. Isn't my first time going, won't be my last.
Celebrated my bday with 20 people, you must choose the group menu but you have a great variety of choice. The food was really good, I would strongly advise the steak or tartare for main dishes, the service was fast & professional, best Byob on the plateau!
