About

La Prunelle emphasizes a market-driven approach to French cuisine that highlights the technical precision required for high-quality preparation. The menu centers on raw meat delicacies, featuring a diverse selection of tartares that serve as the focal point of the culinary program. Ingredients undergo minimal processing to preserve their natural flavor profiles while maintaining the core characteristics of traditional regional cooking. The kitchen operations prioritize consistency through a rotating roster of seasonal offerings derived from available local produce. Each composition balances textural contrasts against bold seasoning choices, ensuring every plate delivers a direct expression of the primary component. This commitment to focused preparation techniques results in a streamlined experience that avoids unnecessary complexity while maintaining rigorous standards for freshness and ingredient integrity across the entire menu.

Review Summary

La Prunelle is widely regarded as a standout bring-your-own-wine destination in the Plateau neighborhood, celebrated for its creative and refined French cuisine. Guests frequently praise the delicious flavor profiles, high-quality ingredients, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere, particularly when the windows are open during the summer months. While most diners have wonderful experiences with the attentive and professional service, some feedback mentions that the restaurant can become quite lively, and there are occasional differing opinions regarding portion sizes and the cost of certain menu items. Overall, it remains a beloved local institution where many appreciate the attention to detail and consistently memorable dining experiences.

My family & I came here by chance & few days ago. We were recommended to come here by another french restaurant that was undergoing a health inspection when we went to visit (so they couldn't take us). Our experience here did not disappoint. When we arrived a nice lady greeted us, but because of her limited english, she asked another server to help us. He let us know that they could serve us, but it could only be their set menu since they were doing MTL à table (feels kinda like winterlicious) that night. We didn't mind so they seated us,& we ordered from their set menu including available a la carte items for the kids. The food was amazing, each dish was carefully crafted & delicious, even my picky kids kept asking for more. We had beef tartare as our first course, & it was great & had the right amount of chew & flabor. Their duck confit was super crispy & falvorful, kids ate almost my entire plate plus some from my husband's plate. Dessert was also on point. Cheesecake was light & fluffy (not like usual NY cheesecakes) & not too sweet, & the squash cake had the smount of sweetness snd flavor too, not dense at all. Kids devoured everything when I looked away for a minute. Service was great, they were a full house that night & BYOW, so they were quite busy. Their service was just the right amount despite how busy they were. We will definitely go back next time we do a road trip to Montréal & try their larger menu. I actually didn't read their reviews prior to our visit since it was a visit by chance, & I noticed a lot of people complaining about slow service/no service & food taking a long time. So I just wanted to take the time to state that service may be slow at times, but we also have to consider that they have a lot of tables to serve, & only two servers, so give them a bit of grace. When they do come, they are very nice, attentive & helpful, I felt the experience was great, because the service was not too over & it's not like they forgot about us, they're just busy, & that's ok. & as for the food taking a long time? I don't really agree with that. In French cuisine we should appreciate the food in front of us one dish at a time, with a small break in-between. This restaurant did exactly that. After each dish, after a fairly short wait, the next dish was served to us, despite how busy it was, & the temperature was always just right. Overall, we had a great experience here & the kids asked to go back the next day, but we had a long drive home, so we couldn't go. But we will definitely be back the next time we are in the city. Service & food was both great. It does get a little loud when it's a full-house, but I think it would be a great place for friends to catch up with great food & drinks. Parking is not the best on this street, but there's a paid parking ($15) nearby, so you can park there then walk over, or attempt to park on the street (might be easier to park on the street when there's less snow). Highly recommend coming here your next visit!

I was impressed with the service: I mentioned an unusual dietary restriction when asking about the mains, & before the dessert the waitress came by to explain which ones I would be able to eat, which I thought was very considerate of her. Food was very tasty but with smaller portions, you should get a starter along with the main.

We went in a large group, we waited some time as the table wasn't ready, not a big deal since we're a considerable number, we took the group menu & it was extremely disappointing: the starter: the salmon tartare was plain, tasteless & it did not feel fresh, the main dish that we took was the steak with fries & OMG literally it was two small pieces of steak & full of oily & burn fries...... Horrible! To top it all off, the dessert: the cheesecake seemed to have a liter of sugar in it as it was too sweet & cloying, not the best & we couldn't finish it. The service was average, nothing extraordinary & the music is a little loud to be able to talk on a large table. What a disappointing experience, it was the most stolen $200 in the world, yes it is a plus to be able to bring your own wine, but the food is so tasteless I would never go back.
