Since 1999, the restaurant LA PRUNELLE is a bring your wine that imposes itself on the popular Duluth in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal. The chef conveys her passion in each of her dishes, working with products of Quebec dotted with Mediterranean accents. Respecting both the producers of the province and seasonal changes, the menu leads us into an adventure filled with happy detours. One feels immediately at home in this lively and friendly restaurant, overseen by Annie the co-owner and her team. The place is a beautiful and charming space, with large windows that open completely in the summer. One thing is certain, LA PRUNELLE is a very good value for money and is surely one of the finest dining experiences on the Plateau Mont-Royal.
La Prunelle draws praise for refined French dining in a warm, intimate setting with attentive service and a BYOW policy that many guests appreciate. Reviews note delicious dishes such as beef tartare, magret de canard, ris de veau, octopus, and a dessert lineup that impresses, along with a chic yet casual ambiance and a lively street view from the window. While the experience is sometimes described as excellent value for money thanks to BYOW, some criticisms include very small portions, occasional slow service when crowded, and a sometimes noisy or crowded room. Overall, the restaurant is frequently described as a neighborhood gem, perfect for special occasions or relaxed evenings, and many guests say they will return.

Honestly, I would give it a better score, but the food was just mediocre & expensive. I got the octopus as an entrance, & it was the worst I ever tasted. Not taste, super chewy, I don't recommend it. The second course I got the feta gnudis, they would have been so much better if there were more sauce. It felt dry because there was just a little bit of squash puree. For dessert, I got the lemon tart, the taste was good but the pie dough was too thick. Overall, there needs to be improvement in the food if they want to sell at this price.

A truly excellent dining experience. First, the restaurant features a wonderful & bright atmosphere. The garage door style windows all around the dining room make you feel part of the intimate surrounding neighborhood, giving diners a feeling of the outdoors even when they are inside. The room is airy, nicely decorated, & though far from quite, the noise level is moderate enough to speak in conversational tones. Second, the service is exceptional. It is friendly & well-paced. Third of course is the food. All of our courses were flavorful & beautifully presented, & featured a generous portion size. I can highly recommend the trout tartare appetizer, which featured a milder & more delicate flavor than the traditional salmon tartare. As a main course, the steak was perfectly medium rare. It was tender & tasty, & cut easily. The chocolate souffle with homemade soft ice cream for dessert was a fabulous topper to the meal. I would highly recommend that you do as I, & have the ice cream on the side. If there was only one minor flaw in the entire meal, it was that the cappuccino was on the rather weak side. Overall a terrific night. I foresee many return visits.

My opinion might be biased since I used to an Exec Chef in Montreal, then in the USA & internationally. Comments below:
- Our table was right by the entrance on the buildings beam where waiters constantly passed right on top of us the whole evening; that table shouldn't be used at all
- a Saturday night with no "plat du jour" ?
- no bread offered
- no one poured the wine we brought at least once
- the portions were so small it was like if our steak was cut in two & served to both of us, mostly like 4oz each piece for $33 ? Des frites maison coûte rien
- the beef tartare had more tomatoes & onions then beef, served with only 2 crositinis..
- the restaurant was extremely & abnormally loud
- our table was forgotten for about 20 minutes after we completed our main course
- overall the food was fine, we were served by three different waiters, the last waitresses we had was great at the end & made up for the prior bad service.
- goat cheesecake wasn't great & very small portion. It's the winter - why don't you have any warm or hot desserts ?
All & all, I would not recommend this restaurant & I would not come back. $160 for 2 people, for what we had isn't at all worth it especially since it's a BYOB & we were hungry 1 hour later. As a chef, you can use seasonal ingredients, transform them in house & have a nice reasonably priced menu. Why are there 2 steaks options out of 5 main courses?
